The bridegroom decided to ask his father for advice. “Dad,” he said, “I love Lily very much, but I have very smelly feet, so I’m afraid that she will not put up with them.” His father said,“All you have to do is wash your feet as often as possible, and you should always wear socks, even when you go to bed.” Well, it seemed a workable solution, the young man thought.

The young woman turned to her mother. “Mom,” she said, “My morning breath is so bad that I’m afraid my new husband will not want to live in the same room with me. I love him. I can’t live without him.” Her mother said, “In the morning, get straight out of bed when you wake up, and head for the bathroom and brush your teeth. Don’t say any word before you brush your teeth.” The young woman followed her mother’s advice.
They were finally married in a wonderful ceremony (仪式). Not forgetting the advice each had received, they carefully spent every day. The husband wore his socks every night and the wife kept her mornings silent; they did quite well until about a month later. Just before dawn (黎明), the husband woke only to find that one of his socks was gone! Thinking of the terrible result, he felt frightened at once. He jumped up and began to search the bed for his sock in a hurry. Of course, this made the wife woken. Without thinking, the wife asked, “What on earth are you doing?” The husband stopped in surprise, and then he cried, “Oh, no! You must have swallowed (吞) my sock!”

It can be incredibly difficult to encourage ourselves to go for a run during winter, particularly when it’s wet and windy outside. But new research has found that even a super-quick run could have great health benefits. In fact, it seems that just a 10-minute session will not only make us feel better, but could actually improve brain health, too. Now, we all know that exercise can improve mental and physical health in many ways.
But when it comes to mental well-being, there’s been relatively little research done on the specific benefits of running, compared with other physical activities, such as cycling. So this was something put to the test during a recent study. Researchers from University of Tsukuba in Japan asked participants (参加者) to run on a treadmill (跑步机) for just 10 minutes. They then had to take a Stroop Color and Word Test which is used to measure reaction time in brain processing. Results showed there was a highest point in self-reported pleasure and an increase in degree of activity of the brain.
In other words, runners were found to have an increase in blood flow in the part of the brain that’s associated with dealing with functions and controlling mood (情绪). Researchers then compared these results to a similar study on cycling, which also showed improved cognition (认知), but no mood improvement. Therefore, it seems various types of exercise can make us feel differently.
The authors noted, “Given exercise is medicine, the effects of drugs differ depending on the type of drug, and different types of exercise such as running and cycling should be observed to have different effects on mental health and brain functions as well.”
So pushing ourselves to get outside for a run really will make us feel better, probably more than other fitness activities. And these findings show that we don’t necessarily need to do a lot of exercise to feel the benefit of it.
8.What did the new research find?
A.Running fast benefits all of us.
    B.Running is the best exercise.
C.A short time run can be beneficial.
D.A healthy mind encourages us to run.
9.How did the researchers get the result?
A.By using different drugs on participants.
    B.By interviewing some sportsmen.
C.By collecting information on the Internet.
    D.By doing experiments and comparisons.
10.Which is related to our happiness?
    A.Cycling. B.Medicine. C.Blood flow. D.Colors.
11.What is the main idea of the text?
A.We should go for a run in winter.
    B.Running really benefits us mentally.
    C.We don’t need a lot of exercise.
D.Running on a treadmill is better than running outside.
    D
The popularity of Chinese-owned video-sharing service TikTok(抖音)continues to grow among young people in the United States. In 2019, experts say the service more than doubled its American user base to 37 million. TikTok is especially popular with teens and young adults.

Gen Z is a name used to call the generation born between the late 1990s and the early 2000s.“That's where they're all hanging out," Marchisotto said.
Companies appearing on TikTok can make money through advertising. Often, the companies create user "challenges" as part of their advertisement campaigns. TikTok users created 3 million videos that received more than 4 billion view.

Lucy was the only child in her family. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat. She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she gave a sigh and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?”
“Oh, yes, but I don’t have money on me,” she replied.
“That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man. “Come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, the smell so attractive. As she was eating, Lucy cried silently.
“What is it?” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing. Actually, I was just touched by your kindness!” said Lucy as she wiped her tears.” Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!” Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?”
Lucy sat there, speechless and numb with shock; she remembered her mother’s familiar face and weathered hands. “Why didn’t I think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful. Why haven’t I thanked my mum for what she has done for me?”
On the way home, Lucy made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.

根据Wellington on a Plate部分中“Wellington on a Plate is an impressive food festival in New Zealand which is not limited to just one place. Wellington’s restaurants, venues(会场), and even car parks become hosts to this wild celebration.”(Wellington on a Plate是新西兰一个令人印象深刻的美食节,不仅限于一个地方。
根据Rhythm & Alps部分中“Rhythm & Alps is a festival that you can plan a road trip to. It is one of the camping festivals in New Zealand that could bring together world-class bands, DJs and festival-goers to welcome the coming year.”(Rhythm & Alps是一个你可以计划自驾游的节日。 “Rhythm and Vines”部分中“A 3-day-long international music festival, Rhythm and Vines, is held there to welcome the first sunrise of the New Year.”(一个为期三天的国际音乐节“Rhythm and Vines”在这里举行,以迎接新年的第一缕阳光。)
根据Victorian Fete部分中“Victorian Fete is a good occasion during which festival-goers take a step back in time to the Victorian era. (日本筑波大学的研究人员要求参与者在跑步机上跑10分钟。然后,他们必须接受Stroop颜色和文字测试,这是用来测量大脑处理过程中的反应时间)”可知,研究人员是通过做实验和对比受试者反应的时间来获得实验结果的。故选D。
10.推理判断题。根据第三段的“In other words, runners were found to have an increase in blood flow in the part of the brain that’s associated with dealing with functions and controlling mood (情绪). (换句话说,跑步者被发现大脑中与处理功能和控制情绪相关的部分血液流量增加)”推知,血液流量和我们的快乐有关。故选C。
11.主旨大意题。根据文章的主要内容,尤其第一段的“But new research has found that even a super-quick run could have great health benefits. In fact, it seems just a 10-minute session will not only make us feel better, but also could actually improve brain health, too. 【分析】本文是一篇说明文。主要讲述了幽默的不同形式与种类,也提到了人们对喜剧效果形式的不同看法。但是,在不同语言环境下,幽默的内容也有差别。
16.设空前“The English language has many ways to talk about something that is funny. (英语中有很多方式来谈论有趣的事情。)”设空后“It is a basic human need.(这是人类最基本的需求。)” 故选A项。

I shouldn’t have quarreled with you.  I shouldn’t have run away from home. Could you forgive me?” Lucy’s mother was moved, saying “Good girl, never mind, I also should make an apology to you for scolding at you angrily.
