What is GM food? All living things have DNA.DNA tells living things how to grow. These days, people can change the DNA that tells food how to grow. When people change the DNA of food, it is called GM food.
Some GM food can grow in cold weather. GM food can stop bugs from eating it. GM fruits and vegetables can stay good longer. One day, GM food may be able to grow in dry land in Africa. It will feed people who do not have much food.
But there is a lot we do not know about GM food. Will GM companies help poor people grow food? Or do GM companies just want to get rich? Does GM food kill bugs we need, like butterflies? Does GM food make birds sick? Does GM food make people sick? We do not know. There have not been many tests on GM food.

Cross-country skiing(越野滑雪) can be enjoyed by students of different ages. It is really a fun activity. It is suitable for students to exercise outside in winter. It’s good for students’ body and mind.
It is well-known that cross-country skiing is good for our bodies. Cross-country skiing training has the positive(积极的) effects on the body. On average(平均来说), the best women cross-country skiers have 11 percent body fat(脂肪), and the best men skiers have 5 percent. These percentages are below the average for athletes—17 percent for women and 10 percent for men. While skiing, a lot of calories(卡路里) are burned. This helps to keep skiers slim(苗条的) in a healthy way.
Cross-country skiing is also a great way to exercise a large number of muscles(肌肉) at the same time. While skiing, the upper body(上半身) gets much more exercise. Of course, the leg muscles also play a role. After a few weeks of cross-country skiing, people will discover that their whole body muscles increase in strength.
Cross-country skiing has a great effect on a person’s cardiovaseular(心血管的) system. People will also discover that their heart is stronger after a few weeks of cross-country skiing. A strong heart can send out more blood to the muscles with each contraction(收缩). Highly trained Olympic cross-country skiers have resting heart rates(静息心率) between 28 and 40 beats per minute. Meanwhile the common person's resting heart rate is 60 to 100 beats per minute!
Cross-country skiing isn’t just good for physical health. A lot of studies have shown that physical exercise can make you feel better. After one of the energetic and fun skiing lessons, students will be smiling and laughing; they will be more relaxed and in a better mood(心情) than the beginning of the class. Students will leave class with a sense of achievement,knowing that they have developed new skills in a fun activity.
Cross-country skiing is a great way to exercise. Now more and more students are taking part in this exercise outside during the winter. They enjoy it and get a lot from it!
