I went on to study Environmental Science at university, and became interested in marine (海洋的) biology when I did my master's degree. That's when I realised that there was a possibility to do more for Hong Kong.In Hong Kong, many people would associate marine life only with seafood, and few people would consider it as a part of nature to be appreciated. Although our marine life is highly diverse, our waters have been overfished for more than 40 years. Records show that, decades ago, Hong Kong had such high production of seafood that it supported about 90% of the local demand. Today, at least 90% of the seafood we eat has to be imported to meet local demand, as our waters are so overfished that they can no longer support the local appetite.Despite this shift, we are still a city in love with seafood-according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Hong Konng has the second highest annual seafood consumption per average in Asia-but consumers are barely aware of where their seafood comes from and which species are threatened. There is a lot of room for improvement in Hong Kong. Improving local fishery management policies and increasing the coverage of Marine Protected Areas, as well as conducting the relevant research to inform decisions, could move the city towards greater sustainability in this area. And consumers should avoid eating seafood that is on the threatened species list. As a general rule of thumb, if people are not sure what the species is, they should choose something else that they are more familiar with. With the marine ecosystem already weak and easily destroyed, the greatest threat is continued ignorance and inaction. It is time for us to show that we can also be a part of the solution. If each person plays their part - even for just one meal a day-Hong Kong would already be on its way to making considerable progress towards sustainable seafood consumption.4.How does the author introduce overfishing in Paragraph 2?A.By listing reasons. B.By offering examples.C.By giving exact figures. D.By making comparisons.5.What is true about HK people according to the passage?A.They all see marine life as a part of nature.B.They consume 90% of the seafood in Asia.C.They have a rather big appetite for seafood.D.They are aware of the source of the seafood.6.What does the author suggest people do when eating seafood?A.Keep off unfamiliar species. B.Ignore dangerous species.C.Choose endangered species. D.Avoid non-threatened species.7.What is the author’s purpose of writing this article?A.To stop consuming seafood.B.To protect the marine ecosystem.C.To improve local fishery management policies.D.To criticize the overfishing situation in Hong Kong.C(议论文)Is there a link between social media and depression? Do Facebook and Instagram have a negative impact on your mental health? It’s complicated.Sometimes, looking through Instagram just makes you feel bad. You try not to envy your friends, but they always seem to be traveling somewhere cool, eating something fancy, or looking cute in perfect just-rolled-out-of-bed hair. On the other hand, there are times when you laugh at funny memes (表情包), catch up with old friends, and feel happy to belong to fun social media communities. Clearly, social media isn’t all bad.People are increasingly suspecting that there’re potential problems of social media. Things like cyberbullying (网上欺凌) , screen addiction, and being exposed to endless filtered images (美颜) that make it impossible not to make comparisons between yourself and others often make the news. In July, a big study came out in the journal JAMA titled “Association of Screen Time and Depression in Adolescence.” This big headline seems to confirm what a lot of people have been saying — screen time is horrible for young people. The study followed over 3,800 adolescents over four years as part of a drug and alcohol prevention program. Part of what the investigators measured was the teens’ amount of screen time, including time spent on social media, as well as their levels of depression symptoms. One of their main findings was that higher amounts of social media use were associated with higher levels of depression. That was true both when the researches compared between people and compared each person against their own mental health over time.Case closed? Not so fast. Before we end the debate once and for all, let’s take a closer look at this and other studies. Let’s ask ourselves: what exactly is the relationship between social media use and depression? It turns out there are several warnings.;8.Why do people sometimes feel bad when looking through Instagram?A.They feel unbalanced. B.They can travel nowhere.C.They don’t look perfect. D.They lack contact with old friends.;9.Why is the article in journal JAMA mentioned?A.To comment. B.To suggest. C.To prove. D.To explore.;10.Which may agree with the findings of the study?A.Teens’ amount of screen time is limited.B.Depression is related to social media use.C.It is not easy to tell reasons for depression.D.Social media contributes to physical health.;11.What’s the best title of the text?A.How to reduce depression?B.Shall people reduce screen time?C.Does social media cause depression?D.Why is it time to give up social media?D(说明文)Outdoor swimming helps reduce inflammation(炎症), the cause of many health issues. It should be a public health measure, says Mark Harper. A simple intervention that reduces inflammation could, therefore, be an effective public health measure. The potential of cold-water bathing is supported by the results of our survey of 722 people “self-medicating” with the activity. As we had assumed, most people with the inflammatory conditions found it helped their symptoms. Given the inflammatory aspect of Covid-19, there is good reason to think that cold water could also help with these healthcare issues. Most subjects were using cold-water bathing for their mental health. So, we involved 59 people with anxiety and depression into an eight-week sea-swimming course. Not only did we see an improvement in their symptoms during the course, but more than 80 per cent were still engaging in the activity and finding benefit from it three months later.Even if you don’t have access to open water, one study showed that office workers who had cold showers took fewer sick days than those who didn’t.The main issue is safe access. With sewage warnings for English and Welsh beaches this summer, water quality needs to be addressed urgently. Then, laws could be used to open up access and also free land owners from responsibility. After that, organizations like the National Trust might put in measures such as ladders and let people use their facilities.People also need to become safe and confident swimmers through courses such as those run by Chill UK, which began with our clinical trial and is now rolling out around the country, or groups like Mental Health Swims. Swimmers also need to be aware of how to reduce their risk of cold water shock.Happily, the potential benefits of cold-water swimming as a public health measure have been recognized by Fulton MacGregor, a member of Scottish parliament. As a result, we ran a round table at the Scottish parliament on 13 September. This will be followed by an in-person event in March 2023, bringing experts together to turn this into a reality. In the meantime, the water is still relatively warm, so why not try an outdoor bathing?;12.What can we learn about cold-water bathing according to the text?A.It may lead to mental problem. B.It may cause people to fall ill easily.C.It can cure people of Covid-19. D.It can reduce inflammatory symptoms.;13.How are the benefits of cold-water bathing proved in Paragraph 3?A.By listing reasons. B.By conducting an experiment.C.By raising doubts. D.By describing an application.;14.What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?A.Solutions to safe access. B.Process of sewage treatment research.C.Problems with safe access. D.Methods of sewage treatment research.;15.What’s the purpose of this text?A.To encourage readers to get involved in cold-water bathing.B.To introduce effective measures concerning cold-water bathing.C.To present some research process related to cold-water bathing.D.To show the mental benefits brought about by cold-water bathing. 参考答案DBD DCAB ACBC DBAA
