No matter what you’re looking for, Orlando has a perfect place for every type of traveler. Here’s the list of the best places to stay in town.
The Alfond Inn
The Alfond Inn is a modern, 112-room hotel in the super-walkable heart of Winter Park. It’s a quiet, art-filled space that I think couldn’t be more suitable for honeymooners.
The hotel also has a heated outdoor pool and a great restaurant, Hamilton’s Kitchen, with a focus on local
food.
The Ritz-Carlton
For luxury (奢华) and an escape from the noisy city, treat yourself to a stay at The Ritz-Carlton. Located on a peaceful 500-acre land with three indoor pools, a championship-level golf course, a 40,000-square-foot spa, a
tennis club, and award-winning dining choices, I think this hotel has a true getaway experience.
The Park Plaza Hotel
Built in 1922, this 28-room hotel is on the walkable shop-and-restaurant-lined Park Avenue in Winter Park,
just north of Orlando. Having an elegant lobby with European-inspired decorations and nice rooms with balconies ( 阳 台 ), the Park Plaza Hotel is a popular honeymoon spot and a favorite for writers and other creative professionals like myself seeking peaceful working vacations.
The Wellborn
Near the Thornton Park neighborhood, The Wellborn, a 20-room hotel, is in Orlando’s oldest house which
was built in 1883. Just a short walk from downtown’s Lake Eola, The Wellborn is near many local bars and restaurants, and it has a romantic environment with gardens and tree-lined brick streets.

In 2021, fresh out of high school, I had difficulty in choosing a major before college. With only two options
left, I was in deep dilemma. My uncle, an influential person in the family, suggested that I should do a work
placement to gain experience for a month in a bank followed by a month in a hospital so that I could make a decision. It seemed like a brilliant idea.
Near the end of my month at the hospital, I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a
more relaxing atmosphere, better working hours and less stress. While hospital was full of excitement, the training was challenging. It seemed that the bank was going to win out.
Then one day when I was driving home from the hospital, I witnessed a terrible accident. Two cars crashed,
causing a boy lying motionless in the middle of the road. People gathered around him but no one could really help. As a matter of fact, I wanted to keep going and ignored it, but the urge to stop and help was stronger. I got out of my car and tried to stop his bleeding but didn’t succeed. With the help of some bystanders, I lifted his unconscious body into the back seat of my car, and rushed him to the hospital. The next day, the doctor introduced me as “the person who saved your son’s life” to the boy’s parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Everyone got up, with grateful smiles on their faces. The boy, now managed a smile though unable to speak.
What a feeling it was to help save the life of another person! I spent the rest of the day in a state of
excitement. Driving home that evening, I knew what I would prefer for the rest of my life.
24. What does the underlined word “dilemma” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Trouble. B. Settlement. C. Attraction. D. Pride.
25. What can we know from paragraph 3?
A. The writer saved the boy without hesitation.
B. The injured boy lost his life in the accident.
C. The boy’s relatives appreciated the writer’s help.
D. The writer managed to stop the boy’s bleeding.
26. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. The writer decided to work in a bank.
B. The writer would be a medical student.
C. The writer was concerned about what he had done.
D. The writer still had no idea what major to choose.
27. What would be a suitable title for the text?
A. No pains, no gains. B. Follow your heart and just do it.
C. Failure is the mother of success. D. Where there is a will, there is a way.

When people think about improving their physical fitness, they often neglect (忽视) balance. Good balance is
a necessary part of being physically fit and key to living a long life, according to a research. It’s important for everyone, no matter your age.
Older adults are most affected by poor balance. Falls are the leading cause of injury and death for those 65
and older, with nearly 30% in this age group reporting at least one fall in 2018, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But younger adults frequently fall down, too.
Forty-eight percent of young adults reported falling at least once during one 16-week study. The falls most
commonly happened during sports activities, with women in the study reporting more falls and fall-related injuries than men.
Falls within the previous two years were reported by 18% of young adults (ages 20 to 45) in another study
published in the journal BMC Public Health. That figure (数据) compared with 21% of middle-aged adults (46 to
65) reporting falls and 35% of those over 65. While falls among young adults were often connected with sports, falls by the middle-aged group were typically related to health problems and physical changes.
Many factors ( 因 素 ) can affect your balance outside of age, such as vision changes, brain injuries,
overweight and a general lack of physical fitness. Even if you have no risk factors, simply neglecting to work regularly on your balance will result in increased instability (不稳定性).
“Our body is conditioned to lose what we don’t regularly use and practice, and balance is no different,” said a researcher.
28. What role does a good balance play in our lives?
A. It helps us live a healthy and long life.
B. It enables us to build a perfect shape.
C. It protects us from getting seriously sick.
D. It has the power to make us look young.
29. How does the author show the research results?
A. By having a discussion. B. By giving a list of figures.
C. By raising questions. D. By following the time order.
30. In which situation are young adults likely to fall down?
A. When a health problem comes up. B. When working regularly.
C. When a physical change appears. D. When joining in a sport.
31. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. We are naturally born with balance.
B. We should manage our body properly.
C. Our body is used to working in its own way.
D. We’ll lose our balance if we don’t practise it often.
D
This year a group called Teach For America (TFA) saw an increase in applications by 36 percent. The
organization recruits (招聘) college graduates to help fill a teacher shortage in less developed areas of America. The organization’s leaders say some college graduates prefer to take the positions in public service during the
economic (经济的) downturn but many feel a renewed spirit of public service.
“Teaching is much harder than I expected. Changing the world is never easy,” says Loren Heinbach. She has made up her mind to become a teacher to address the imbalance in education that exists between rich and poor

communities.
Heinbach is one of over 6,000 TFA members, recent college graduates who volunteer to teach children in poor inner cities and rural public schools. She gives up possible work in medicine or law which will pay much more later on. Instead, she takes a teaching job at the KIPP Academy.
The school is in a neighborhood of Washington, DC. The students there traditionally perform (表现) in the
lowest 25% of national standards. Vice Principal Kristy Ochs says the school is working hard to improve the quality of education, but it is difficult to find teachers willing to do the hard work.
Ochs also gets her start in TFA. Two-thirds of members stay in education after their two-year service ends.
She says these new teachers make every effort to teach school.
Heinbach’s students say she has high standards and expectations. One student says, “You have to really pay attention. The questions may seem easy, but if you make the wrong decision on a question, it’s like you really messed up.” “She also likes us to take notes. And I do thank her because she is getting us ready for college,” another student adds.
32. What’s the purpose of TFA recruiting college students?
A. To send more teachers to poor areas. B. To create well-paid jobs.
C. To grow its business. D. To earn high praise from the government.
33. Why does Loren Heinbach choose to take a teaching job?
A. She will get an increase in pay soon. B. She failed to get into the public service.
C. She tries to live up to her parents’ expectation. D. She wants to change the imbalanced education.
34. What can we know about the KIPP Academy?
A. Its teachers are experienced. B. Its teachers dislike schooling.
C. Its students perform badly in study. D. Its students are from rich families.
35. Which word best describes Loren Heinbach as a teacher?
A. Strict. B. Regretful. C. Lucky. D. Stressed.
