As the song “Bridge Over Troubled Water” echoed across the ice rink at the Beijing 2022, Chinese skaters Sui Wenjing and Han Cong completed their touching but powerful performance on Long Program, which successfully earned them their first-ever Olympic championship title and China’s second gold in the pair skating event at the Olympic Games. (The first was from Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo at 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.) Also, it was a perfect conclusion to their 15 years of cooperation.
Sui and Han, born in 1995 and 1992 respectively, had won almost every youth competition they took part in when they were young, yet constant injuries and accidents created a massive barrier to overcome when it came to reaching the Olympic podium(领奖台).
In 2014, an ankle injury caused Sui constant pain, forcing the pair lose their qualification for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. That should have been their first opportunity for Olympic gold. “It was a huge regret for us after preparing so much,” recalled Sui.
In 20l6, Sui finally underwent foot ligament(韧带) surgery, after which she went through a long recovery period. The doubt about whether she would ever skate again almost left her in despair. For Han, the training arena and the hospital were the only two places that Han would go.
After four years of waiting, the pair had the chance to compete at Pyeongchang 2018. Their performance there won them a silver medal.
Another four years later in Beijing, the then two-time world champions finished their entire routine with a total of 155.47 points, surpassing Team China’s top competitor, ROC’S Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov, who won silver.
Talking about her future career direction, Sui said she is applying to be a choreography major, as she believes figure skating is a combination of this art form and skating techniques. “I have too many creative ideas for figure skating. It requires continuous learning and of course an endless passion for skating as well as perseveration, which is the key to success.”
24.What does the first paragraph focus on?
A.Good performance of the two skaters. B.Sui and Han’s Olympic championship.
C.Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. D.China’s two golds in great sports events.
25.What can we know about Sui and Han’s experiences?
A.Their 15-year cooperation was filled with ups and downs.
B.Physical problems had bothered the pair for 4 years.
C.Han had to stop practising when Sui was in hospital.
D.The 2014 Olympics laid the foundation for their final success.
26.What saying can be used to summarize the pair’s struggles and fighting?
A.Practice makes perfect. B.No way is impossible to courage.
C.Adversity makes a man wise, not rich. D.The path to glory is always rugged.
27.What can be inferred from the text?
A.The pair have participated in four Olympic Games.
B.Sui may retire after winning this Olympic championship.
C.Ranking second in 2018 made the pair completely disappointed.
D.The two gold medals at the Olympic Games are eight years apart.

In my teenage period 1 always had wished to pass a geography exam, remembering all the locations of the countries on a map or avoid embarrassing situations of suddenly forgetting the person’s name standing right in front of you. Luckily for me, now one theory that memory, like other muscles in the body, can be strengthened aroused my curiosity. But instead of practicing with flash cards, there may be an interesting way that we can improve our memory while we sleep.
The researchers hold that sleep is when the brain transfers short-term memories experienced throughout the day into long-term memories. This process is called memory consolidation. They have been working on a DIY version of this task to see if we male volunteers can improve memories through the use of sound in sleep. In the test, every time we see the picture, we can hear the related sound. Then we take a nap and they record our EEG.
They’re interested in one of the four periods of sleep: slow-wave sleep, when scientists believe that memory consolidation can happen. In this deep period of sleep, they do something that we don’t know. When we wake back up and do the task again, we find we do better than before a nap. That is because they played a clue during our sleep, for example, a car—we would remember the position of that car when we woke back up again. But if they didn’t play the clue during the sleep, for example, a guitar, we’d be less likely to remember that guitar when we woke up.
I was a huge skeptic when I first heard that result. But they ran this experiment on two female groups and the results were significant. It’s not that you remember things better; it’s that you forget them less. And the facts and memories we collect throughout the day are easily lost and forgotten.
So if you’re like me and a bit forgetful, perhaps a solution is a pair of headphones and a soft couch.
28.How did the author feel about his memory when young?
A.He felt discouraged. B.He was moved. C.He felt inspired. D.He was proud.
29.How did the researchers strengthen the volunteers’ memory?
A.By playing a clue before they sleep. B.By playing a clue when they sleep.
C.By showing a picture before they sleep. D.By drawing a picture when they sleep.
30.What is the author’s attitude to the theory?
A.He is convinced of the experiment results. B.He throws doubts on it at present.
C.He believed in it from beginning to end. D.He wanted to prove it in the future.
31.What does the author want to show in the last paragraph?
A.Ways to avoid forgetfulness are funny. B.Headphones and a soft couch are useful.
C.Many people can’t avoid forgetting in life. D.The solution to being forgetful is practical.
D
Recently researchers are discovering that learning is easier, quicker and more long-lasting if it involves the body. To some extent, the discovery should come as no surprise. Consider that many of us probably began to understand basic arithmetic (算术)by counting on our fingers before learning to count in our head.
Conventional thinking had it that as we grew, we became more able to think abstractly, which might suggest teachers should help wean children off body gestures to prepare them for the adult world. But in truth, the physical world never really leaves our thinking. For example, when we process verbs such as lick, kick and pick, medical scanners show that the parts of our brain that control the muscles in our face, legs and hands, respectively, light up with activity.
This theory is called embodied cognition(体验认知),and it suggests that what goes on in our minds stems from(起源于)our actions and interactions with the world around us. It means that encouraging children to think and learn in a purely abstract way might actually make lessons harder for them to understand and remember.
Science is beginning to back up the idea that actions really might speak louder than words in the classroom. Spencer Kelly, a psychologist at Colgate University in New York, has found that people spend three times as much time gesturing when the message they get across is particularly important. Kelly has also found evidence that students like a teacher better when that teacher uses arm and hand movements to emphasize points. Meanwhile, Susan Wagner Cook, a psychologist at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, has found that children pick up new concepts more effectively if they are taught to mirror and repeat the gestures their teacher uses, and that lessons involving words and gestures live longer in a student’s memory than lessons using words alone.
32.What is the text mainly about?
A.A study on classroom teaching.
B.The dark side of thinking abstractly.
C.The function of body language.
D.A new finding about learning.
33.What does the underlined phrase“wean children off body gestures” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Let children be aware of body gestures.
B.Make children stop using body gestures.
C.Give children an account of body gestures.
D.Encourage children to use body gestures.
34.According to embodied cognition,
A.our minds can help shape reality
B.it’s not easy to grasp abstract concepts
C.the environment matters for one’s cognition
D.interacting with the world improves one’s memory
35.What can we learn from Spencer Kelly’s study?
A.Body movements can raise a teacher’s popularity.
B.Young students like to mirror their teacher’s gestures.
C.Using body gestures makes students love learning.
D.Body language is more powerful than spoken language.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Growing up, I always dreamed of being a professional skater. After years of hard work, I am living proof that dreams can come true.
When I was born, my parents immediately noticed something wrong and the doctor said I couldn’t skate. I, however, insisted on trying skating in an ice rink (滑冰场)not far from my house where local skaters would often perform ice shows. I remember seeing the shining costumes and their graceful movements.
I determined to take group skating lessons, but I’d cry before class because going into a group scared me. Performing on the ice came naturally, but I have always been shy and afraid to speak in group settings.
One thing I’ve never been afraid of is competition. I get nervous, like everyone else, but never fearful. For me, skating has never been about beating others. It’s been about doing my best. I progressed rapidly and gave my first ice performance at age seven. I soon started to win local and regional competitions. That’s because being on the ice has always been the one place I can truly express my emotions. The ice is like home.
I began training seriously when I was nine years old. Mom and I would wake up at four o’clock in the morning, six days a week and skate for five hours. Then I’d go to school. Since education has always been important in my family, I had no choice but to find creative ways to fit in school studies throughout my amateur career.
After graduating from high school, I moved to Canada and set out to train full time to give my dreams a chance at reality. And several years later I was competing at the Olympic Games. Not my coach or even my family had ever talked to me about winning a gold medal. In fact, I wouldn’t even allow myself to think about it. I went with the attitude that I wanted to enjoy the Olympic spirit.
Finally, the day arrived. I took a deep breath and eased into a solid performance that placed me first going into the finals.
注意
1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Two days later, I was the first of the final six skaters to perform on the ice.
