Five hundred years ago, explorers (探险者) discovered America. They told stories about treasure hidden in South America. One of the stories was about a city called El Dorado (“the city of gold”) which was somewhere in Colombia. The story said that the local people painted their king with gold once a year. The king then washed off all the gold in a lake. When people in Europe heard this story, they began to talk about finding this lake and taking away the gold and treasure left on the bottom.
The west of South America was ruled by the Incas (印加人), who built great temples and palaces out of gold and shining treasure. The Spanish king heard about this. He sent his general, Francisco Pizarro, to South America to bring all their treasure back to Europe. Pizarro and his army landed in South America and soon caught the Incas' emperor. Pizarro required plenty of gold in exchange for the emperor. However, before Pizarro got the gold, he broke his word and killed the emperor.
After that, many Incas ran away into the mountains. They took their treasure with them. One of the places they went to was Machu Picchu. This is sometimes called the “lost city of the Incas” because it was hidden for centuries in a thick forest. It was discovered in 1911, but no treasure was found there.
Some people still believe that there are more cities full of gold hidden in South America. Many explorers have set out to try to find them. Some have never returned. Perhaps many more will continue to look for “EI Dorado” and the “lost” treasure.

34-year-old Sun Xiaojun got terribly ill at the age of 9. He lost his right leg. After that, the young man made the decision to study hard.
In 2006, Sun went to university and studied material forming and control engineering. In 2009, he went to Japan for further study. “I started to wear a prosthesis(假肢) two years after I arrived in Japan and it took quite a long time to get used to,” he said.
The experience wasn’t very comfortable. He would fall over when he tried to walk fast. In 2013, he came up with the idea of creating a smarter prosthesis that used robotics.
In 2018, he founded BionicM in Shenzhen. Sun’s robotic prosthesis got him fame and won him the Red Dot: Best of the Best prize in 2020.
The biggest challenge for him was how to make the body and the prosthesis work together. Most man-made prostheses(prosthesis的复数) are made to work like bones(骨头). Sun’s invention, however, works like adding mechanical muscle(机械肌肉). “The prosthesis we’ve created has a mind of its own and allows people to move by sensing what they want,” he said.
“There are about 4 million people in China who cannot walk,” he added. “But most prostheses are too expensive. I didn’t start my company for the money, but to make a product that is useful to society,” he said.
According to Sun, the robotic knee that his company produces is priced at around 300,000 yuan per pair, while similar products sold elsewhere for around 800,000 yuan.
Sun hopes that by raising more money, he’ll be able to produce more prostheses and help more people.
23.Why did Sun Xiaojun lose his leg?
A.He was born disabled. B.He got a terrible illness.
C.He had an accident. D.He experienced an earthquake.
24.When did Sun Xiaojun first use a prosthesis?
A.In 2006. B.In 2009. C.In 2011. D.In 2013.
25.What’s the purpose of Sun Xiaojun’s company?
A.To make more money for his family. B.To help more disabled people to walk.
C.To find more inventors to do his research. D.To make himself a more comfortable prosthesis.
26.How is Sun Xiaojun’s invention different from other products on the market?
A.It’s much more expensive than all the other products.
B.It’s more comfortable to wear than most other products.
C.It has mechanical muscle and can be controlled by a robot.
D.It has a mind of its own and allows people to move more freely.

There are many games in which two teams compete to get control of a ball and shoot it into the other net to score a goal. Among them, one is played in the Summer Olympic Games, and its name is “hockey”.
The first sport we know like hockey was played in Egypt over 4,000 years ago. There are no records of the modern game until its appearance in English schools in the 18th century, and the first hockey club was formed in 1849 in London. During this time the game became popular among British soldiers, and they introduced it to many other countries. To this day, hockey is popular around the world.
In the hockey match, players use sticks to hit, push, pass a small, hard ball. Each team has up to 16 players, of which 11 can be on the pitch(赛场) at one time. These include a goalkeeper plus 10 field players”. Field players must not use any body part to control the ball. Only goalkeepers can use their hands and feet to block(阻截) or hit the ball.
A hockey match usually lasts 70 minutes, with two 35-minute halves. The team with the most goals is the winner. Games can end in a draw, but if a winner must be found, such as in the World Cup or at the Olympics, a tied match will go into extra time, which is similar to some soccer games.
The most important competitions for hockey are the Olympic Games, the Hockey World Cup, and the Common wealth Games. All of these competitions are held once every four years. The biggest of hockey’s yearly competitions is the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament. It’s been held in Malaysia every year and teams from all over the world come to take part in it.
