Parents are often surprised at their children’s ability to use technology. A five-year-old child may easily find and use apps on a smart phone. A ten-year-old child can move up through the levels of a video game easily. Their parents may think their children were born geniuses (天 才)!
Natural geniuses, however, are not common. But your parents are right if they think you are smarter than them. Most children are born smarter than their parents. This has been proved(证明)on IQ tests around the world recently. These tests have shown that over the last 100 years, each new generation (一代人)has become smarter than the older ones. In other words, you are smarter than your parents and your parents are smarter than your grandparents.
This increase in intelligence is called the “Flynn Effect(效应)”. It was named after James Flynn. Flynn is a university professor (教授)in New Zealand. He first noticed this in 1980. According to his research, with each new generation, average (平均的)IQ scores would increase by twenty percent.
But why are people getting smarter? Flynn and many other researchers believe this has something to do with technology. New technologies have further developed our brains. They have made us think better. So we may be better at completing the missing parts of a puzzle than our parents.
But being smart doesn’t make you wise. Wisdom (智慧)comes with age and experience. A high score on a computer game will not help you solve the everyday problems of life. For that, a smart kid will turn to the wisdom of his parents and grandparents.

It was Saturday again. Lily and Lucy disliked Saturdays. That was another thing the twins had in common. They shared the same clothes and tied their hair in the same manner. In fact, it was hard for their classmates and teachers to tell them apart sometimes.

Children with no shoes on do better at school than those with shoes on, a study suggests.

That day the tradition started and got the name “War of Wine”.

New technology from MIT(麻省理工学院), the USA, shows that drones(无人机) are controlled just by hand and arm gestures, a kind of body language. This makes drone users safer.
One local park in Singapore is trying a new way to get its visitors to stay away from each other. Spot, a yellow and black robot dog, goes around the park. It plays a video and warns visitors not to get too close to each other. And it also helps count the visitors in the park with its camera.

A person without humor is just like a spring without flowers, or like a dish without salt. In a way, your personality lies in your sense of humor.
②Humor answers your question and makes you think outside the box. One day, a young painter went to visit the famous German painter Adolpyh Menzel and said to him, “I can’t understand why I only spend one day on a painting but have to wait for one year to sell it out?” Menzel said, “My dear, please try to turn upside down your mind. If you spend one year on it, you can sell it in a day.” With these humorous words, your worries may go away like smoke, and you could be full of energy once again.
③Humor can help you when you are under provocation. Sometimes, people make trouble on purpose. One day the famous German poet Goethe met a critic(批评家) in a small road. The critic said to Goethe, “You know, I’ve never given a way to a stupid man.” Goethe answered, “But I am the opposite of you.” Then he moved on his side and let the critic pass by. As you see, humor gives a lesson to those who want to laugh at others.
④People with a good sense of humor may become wise and creative. People with a good sense of humor look happier and healthier. A sense of humor is really one of the keys to happiness. It gives hope and pleasure to life to make it worth living.

Is the whale the world’s largest fish? No. It looks like a fish, but it is really a mammal(哺乳动物). Then what’s the world’s largest fish? It’s the whale shark(鲸鲨).
Although the whale shark is our biggest fish and lives in the ocean(海洋) around the world, few people have ever heard of it. Scientists have not been studying whale sharks for very long. Much more needs to be learned about them.A whale shark is sometimes called a “ gentle giant(温柔的巨人)”. It likes to be alone and doesn’t care a bit about divers or humans. The biggest whale shark weighs 24, 250 pounds and is nearly 40 feet long. This makes it heavier and longer than a school bus.
Inside its huge mouth are great numbers of very small teeth. To count all of them, you’ll need to do some math. The whale shark’s teeth are arranged in rows. There are between eleven and thirteen rows on each jaw(颌) and around three hundred teeth in each row.
However, the whale shark rarely uses its teeth. It does not chew or bite its food. Large amounts of water are pulled into its mouth and then pushed out through its gills(腮).
For a few months every year, a group of whale sharks comes to the Ningaloo Reef, off Western Australia. This gives scientists a wonderful chance to study the large fish.
Whale sharks do live in the ocean around the world, but no one knows their population. It is possible that our biggest fish may need protecting. It is one of the reasons why scientist continue to learn about these gentle giants.
41.Little is known about whale sharks because scientists ________.

C.They have small eyes. D.They live in the ocean.
43.How does the writer help us know what the whale shark’s mouth looks like?
A.By giving reasons. B.By describing colors. C.By comparing sizes. D.By using numbers.
44.The fourth paragraph is mainly about ________.

C.how different fish use their gills D.what’s inside a whale shark’s mouth
45.Which of he following is the best title for the article?
