After the COVID-19 pandemic hit Australia in early 2020, the Sticky candy shop in Sydney was on the edge of shutting down. But then, the owner David King decided to take some business advice from his daughter, Anabelle: join TikTok.
King had been running the shop for around twenty years, after leaving his career as a lawyer to pursue a new-found love for sweets.
The shop specialized in making hard candies with beautiful patterns inside.
"It starts as this large quantity of molten sugar. We cool it and add colors. It bubbles. We then sculpt it quite large. We build what we would call a lolly(棒棒糖), but you guys would call a candy," says King.
The business was doing well until COVID-19 hit. In March of 2020, customers disappeared. So, Anabelle suggested they double down on social media. They began live-streaming the candy-making process. The first stream only had thirty views-but, in time, more and more people started watching.
But Anabelle, who was in her last year of high school at the time, wanted to take things a step further. She tried to convince her father to start a TikTok page for Sticky.
King was hesitant at first, having never heard of TikTok in the first place. But he let Anabelle give it a try.
It worked. In the two years since making the account, under the handle @stickyaustralia, the Kings have gained 6 million followers, with fans all over the world. The store itself has doubled its profit.

Climate change means more flood risk across the United States. That includes places far from the ocean and sometimes far from rivers and streams.
The flood risk all starts with the release of greenhouse gases. As humans keep burning fossil fuels, the atmosphere gets hotter. That hot air holds more water vapor, and so when it rains, it rains harder. Climate scientists have been predicting for decades that heavy rain would get more common as the Earth heats up.
Floods can happen really quickly, and the water can be powerful when it gets moving. When a lot of rain falls in a short period of time, it isn't absorbed into the ground, especially if the ground is already hard, or it's covered with pavement or buildings.
All that water has to go somewhere, so it pools on the surface. If there's a hill—even a very small one—the water starts moving downhill. It gathers power. This is how a flash flood happens, and it can be extremely dangerous. This is one reason why floods are consistently the most deadly natural disaster in the U.S.
There are many, many ways to warn people that a flood is dangerous, slow the water down and give the water safe places to go. For example, healthy forests and wetlands also absorb water. In cities, one reason that heavy rain causes widespread floods is that the pipes underground are not large enough to handle the kind of heavy rain that is falling. Installing larger pipes, or pipes in new places, is very expensive.
If humans keep burning enormous amounts of oil, gas and coal, the atmosphere will keep getting hotter, and heavy rain will get even more common and even more severe throughout this century. If humans dramatically cut greenhouse gas emissions in the next decade or so, that will help control heavy rain, especially later this century.
8、How does climate change affect heavy rain?
    A. By keeping burning fossil fuels. B. By the release of greenhouse gases.
C.By holding more water vapor. D. By raining a lot.
9、Why is inland flooding so dangerous?
    A. Because of lacking pools. B. Because of hard ground.
C.Because of not being absorbed. D. Because of its powerful water.
10、What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?
    A. The measures to protect people from heavy rain.
    B.The warning of the flood.
    C. The reason for the flood.
    D.The prediction of the future.
11、What's the author's attitude towards the problem?
    A. Positive. B.Doubtful. C. Cautious. D.Critical.
Earlier this month, a customer at a restaurant in southwest China spotted a set of footprints in the stone floor of the courtyard where they were dining. And after the proper authorities were called in to observe, the paleontologists(古生物学家) on the scene discovered a new set of footprints, which they say belong to two dinosaurs that walked the planet some 100 million years ago.
One of the experts called in to investigate told CNN that his team used a 3Dscanner to confirm that the footprints were left by sauropods(蜥脚类动物).
Sauropods were plant-eaters with small heads and long necks and tails, and they were ugly. They hatched out of eggs that were about the size of a grapefruit. Their whole game plan was to eat a whole bunch of plants and get big as fast as possible.
And although the time for sauropods to walk the Earth may be long gone, this discovery indicates an exciting time for paleontological research.
"I would say that right now, China, in particular with regards to dinosaur footprints, is undergoing a fossil renaissance. A lot of new and exciting spots are being discovered," said Scott Persons, a paleontologist at the College of Charleston. He has worked with the Chinese scientists who made this discovery, though he was not involved in this particular discovery.
Tracks are fossilized behavior. That is the movement of a living animal. And usually, tracks are some of the only evidence that we have of dinosaurs' social behavior. Sauropods had to eat constantly to keep their size—so their behavior in this case may have involved chewing green plants noisily.
While fossil footprints might not seem quite as attractive as finding bones, they allow paleontologists to take a unique glimpse into how dinosaurs lived.
12、What was found in the research?
    A. Sauropods have a big appetite.
    B. Sauropods belong to mammals.
    C. Sauropods prefer to eat meat.
    D. Sauropods have big heads and long necks and tails.
13、How can we learn about the dinosaurs?
A.By analyzing their tracks. B.By looking for footprints.
C.By finding bones. D.By researching their food.
14、What's the advantage of this discovery?
    A. Identifying the time of the existence of the dinosaur.
B.Giving the paleontologists chances to use 3D scanners.
    C.Boosting a fossil renaissance.
    D. Helping paleontologists to learn about dinosaurs' life.
15、What is the best title for the text?
    A. An exciting time for paleontological research
    B. Paleontologists took a unique glimpse into how dinosaurs lived
    C. A diner discovered 100 million-year-old dinosaur footprints in a restaurant
    D. An expert spotted a set of footprints in the stone floor of the courtyard

    37、答案:①recently②which③Its④launched⑤on⑥companies⑦an⑧enthusiasm⑨supported⑩were displayed
focus on...
Everyone needs help from time to time. , not all of you have someone you can turn for guidance. I'm here to provide you with judgment-free space to ask any questions. What I'd like to do make you feel heard and . I want you to know that there are other people may be just as confused as you are. Even if you don't choose to submit a question, someone else's question just might be similar to . It can be helpful to your own situation. Don't hesitate to me.
第二句的Therefore→However。
turn to sb.
    3.第三句的an→a。
    4.第四句的was→is。
    6.第五句的whom→who/that。
hesitate to do sth.
