The sweet sound of the well-known childhood song came out of the village office in Gaozhuang in Zhongwei, Nningxia Hui autonomous region. Inside, a small group of children were learning to play the guitar with Song Hao, deputy curator(副馆长) of Zhongwei Museum.

Song is 48 years and was born into an artistic family. He received strict musical training as a child and was quite good at playing the guitar and composing music. He had a wish to do what he could with his own music to make the world a brighter place for the children. In June last year, he found an opportunity to turn that wish into reality.

He was chosen to take part in rural vitalization(振兴) work in Gaozhuang for two years, and in his spare time, he started teaching village children to play the guitar.

“There’s something really magical about music,” he said, remembering that when he played for the children, many had twinkles in their eyes.

Song asked them if they wanted to learn to play, and they all said “Yes”, so he started a free class to teach them on weekends and during the summer and winter holidays. He paid for 20 guitars and music textbooks from his own pocket and began to teach them the basics, like how to pluck(弹拨) the strings and read music.

The children loved the classes so much that they would arrive at the village office early to wait for Song. Over the past six months, a number of children have learned to play entire pieces, and Song said that he could feel the happiness and confidence that learning to play music had brought to them.

The history of Azerbaijani cinema dates back to the end of the 19th century, during which, many excellent movies have been filmed, which are still watched and admired by everyone.

These movies were filmed in many beautiful places: from the comfortable and winding streets of the Icharishahar(Old City)—UNESCO World Heritage Site in Baku—to the beautiful fruit gardens and forests of beautiful areas of Azerbaijan.

Here, on these streets, one of the most famous Azerbaijani films, Arshin Mal Alan, directed by Rza Tahmasib, was filmed.

Filmed in 1945 and characterized by its amazing plot, beautiful music, great singing and acting, Arshin Mal Alan quickly became a box office sensation(轰动).

It remains an important cultural touchstone across Eurasia and has been translated into 86languages and shown in 136 countries.

The film is about pure love, women's rights, and a young couple's dreams for a modern way of life.

The plot tells us about a rich young man named Asker. One day, he decides to get married. However, according to the Eastern rule, a bride(新娘) needs to cover her face before the wedding. But soon he finds a solution to this problem. On the advice of his friend Suleyman, Asker dresses up as a street seller of cloth. By selling goods, these sellers can enter houses where the women and girls choosing their cloth don't cover their faces. Now Asker can go into any yard and choose a bride.

The film has a lot of entertaining moments, songs and humour. The black-and-white version of this film has also been restored and can now be viewed in colour.

However, this is not the only movie that was filmed in the Old City. For example, in the films Amphibian Man and The Diamond Arm, you can see the streets well known to every Azerbaijaní.

8What can we know about Arshin Mal Alan?

    A. It was filmed before 1945.

    B. It is popular around the world.

    B. A man must dress up as a seller at the wedding.

    C. A man mustn't see his bride's face before the wedding.

    D. A man must buy a house for his bride before the wedding.

10Why does Asker dress up as a seller of cloth?

    A. To choose a bride.  B. To make a film.

    C. To work in the street.  D. To earn more money.

11What is the text mainly about?

    A. The street culture in Azerbaijan.

    B. The history of black-and-white TV.

    D. A famous movie filmed in Old City—Icharishahar.

It's easy to believe that robots are stealing jobs from human workers and badly affect the job market; after all, you've likely heard that they are tracking and moving packages without the use of human hands.

But there's no need to worry about a robot takeover just yet, says a new study from BYU sociology professor Eric Dahlin. Dahlin's research found that robots aren't replacing(取代) humans at the rate most people think, but people are likely to greatly exaggerate(夸大) the rate of robot takeover.

To understand the relationship between job loss and robots, Dahlin surveyed nearly 2,000 people about their views on jobs being replaced by robots. They were first asked to guess what is the percentage of employees whose employers(雇主) have replaced jobs with robots. They were then asked whether their employers have ever replaced their jobs with robots.

The study found that only 14%of workers say they've seen their job replaced by a robot. But those who have experienced job displacement due to a robot overstate the effect of robots taking jobs from humans by about three times.

“Our understanding of robots taking over jobs is greatly exaggerated,” says Dahlin. Those who haven't lost jobs overstate it by about double, and those who have lost jobs overstate it by about three times. Eye-catching headlines saying a bad future of employment have likely overblown the situation of robots taking over jobs.

The finding fits early studies, which suggest that robots aren't replacing workers. Rather, workplaces, where both employees and robots are working together, deliver more value in a way. “An everyday example is an autonomous machine at your local department store,” says Dahlin. “This robot cleans the floors while employees clean under shelves or other difficult-to-reach places.”

12How did Eric Dahlin carry out his research?

    A. By asking people questions.  B. By comparing early studies,

    C. By interviewing employers.  D. By studying new businesses.

13What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?

    A. Bad effects of technology.  B. A fall in laid-off workers.

    C. Benefits of using robots.   D. The finding of the study.

14What might deepen people's worry about robot takeover according to the text?

    A. Low pay.  B. News reports.

    C. Physical health.  D. Fewer workplaces,

15Which statement will Eric Dahlin probably agree with?

    A. Robots can work as human partners.  B. Job markets will be affected seriously.

    C. All human workers will be replaced. D. Work experience matters too much.

    Dear fellow students,

Due to the rapid development of society, our environment is becoming worse and worse. As the world warms, Arctic glaciers are melting, which threatens the lives of polar bears. At the same time, air pollution causes people to suffer from various diseases.

It is crucial for everyone to take an active action to protect our environment. A beautiful environment can be presented through our low-carbon travel, like walking or riding to school instead of driving. Garbage sorting and recycling should also be a part of our daily life.

Let us work hand in hand to build a better environment.

    Yours,

    Li Hua
