    The red beans grow in southern land;
    How many loads (枝条) in spring the trees?
    Collect them till full is your hand;
    They would recall sweet memories.
    (Translated by Xu Yuanchong and simplified by the editor)
    Love is a popular theme in Chinese poems. What symbols do you think best stand for love? The heart, rose or chocolate? This time we are going to look at a classic Chinese poem, Love Seeds. It was written by Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei who had a different understanding of the symbol of love.
    In the first two lines, the poet expresses his feelings of missing his friend, who lives in southern China, by describing the growth of red beans in spring. In classic Chinese poems, poets prefer to express feelings in an indirect or symbolic way. When describing the natural environment or showing some symbols, Chinese poets always mean more than what's described on the surface.
    In Chinese culture, red beans are seen as “love seeds”, which have a strong cultural meaning. Because they are often hard, come in a heart shape, and can be stored for a long time, those beans have long been used as a symbol of love and loyalty ( 忠 诚 ) between lovers.
    In the last two lines, the poet wishes his faraway friend to collect as many red beans as possible, as the beans will bring back his friend's memories to the poet.
    Instead of showing love to others by directly saying “I miss you” or using flowery language, this short poem can make readers feel deep love.

    Lisa, a 14-year-old girl, from the USA, used an app to make her dream come true. She tried it out on a childhood photo of her mother. Guess what? In the old photo, her mother, a little girl at that time, began to smile at her. It sounds like Harry Potter's moving photos, doesn't it?
    It's not magic, but a real thing. The app that Lisa used is called My Heritage. By using an AI (人工智能) technology, the app allows users to animate (使 … … 成为动画) still photos. The technology is the work of D-ID, an Israeli (以色列的)company. At the beginning, they designed it to bring photos of people in history to life. This means you can see them blink (眨眼), and even turn their heads. Now Americans find it fun and many are giving it a try with their old photos. Millions of users have watched their loved ones come to life in old photos.

    Do you often listen to music at loud volumes (音量)? You should know that this habit is bad for your hearing, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
    Over 1 billion young people are at risk of hearing loss because of listening to loud noise for long periods of time. WHO said, “Listening to music or watching a TV show at loud volumes can harm your hearing.”
    The United Nations has standards for safe listening. It is not safe to listen to sounds that are louder than 85 dB (分贝) for eight hours or 100 dB for 15 minutes. The sound of a busy road is about 85 dB and the sound of a rock concert can be about 100 dB .
    Loud noise is harmful to the inner ear (内耳) . Most of us are born with about 16,000 hair cells (毛细胞) in our inner ears. These cells detect (探测) sounds. However, listening to loud noise for a long time can make these cells work too hard and cause some of them to die. This is what causes hearing loss.
    Some people might think that their music isn’t all that loud. But this can depend on where you are. For example, if you are in a noisy place like the subway, you might turn up your music too loud without realizing it. Later, when you listen to it at the same volume in a quiet place, you might feel uncomfortable.
    WHO said the “safe level” for most sound is below 80 dB for up to 40 hours a week. A level of 80 dB is roughly (大约) equal to the noise of a subway.
