We find it difficult to find true friends these days. A lot of people tend to backstab（背后伤人）. Some make friends just to use them. Others promise to be your friends but they are never there when you need them the most. They appear only when they need something from you.

Once you find a friend who is worth keeping, make sure to take care of what you have with that person. How? Here are some tips on how to make friendship last forever:

1 . Call for no reason. Call just to say "Hi” or just to ask “ What's up?” You don't need a huge or an important reason to call a friend. If you can't call, just send an e-mail. This would send a message that you remember your friends on a random （随意的）time of the day.

2. Know when to say I'm sorry and thank you. Don't let pride get in the way, especially when you make a mistake. The word “sorry” already has saved a lot of friendships. Show appreciation for the things, big or little, that your friend does for you. Did she listen to you when you were complaining about that physics exam? Did he offer his shoulders for you to cry on when your boyfriend broke your heart? Say thank you. It's that easy.

3. Don't say hurtful words. If you have nothing good to say, don't talk at all. Don't hurt your friends' feelings by saying hurtful words that, most of the time, you don't really mean. If you're a true friend, you will be careful with your words.

4. Be honest. Don't lie to friends. Trust is the base of true friendship. Write them a note from time to time. Also, try to be thoughtful. Give simple gifts that will make their day.

5. Know how to keep a secret and show your friends that they can depend on you to be there whatever happens. If you promise to keep the secrets for your friends, just do it.

6. Never be mean（小气的）with your time. Spare some time to see your friends however busy you are. You can always spare an hour or two after school or work to visit them.

If you are the type of person who knows how to take care of friendship, you definitely are a keeper!

Reading is fun! You can also analyze texts（文本）to learn more from the texts and about the texts. One way you can do this with fiction books, passages, or poems is by exploring their themes.

A theme is a central idea running throughout the text, connecting the characters and events. The writer may express his or her thoughts about humanity or a worldview through a theme. Themes can be ideas like friendship, bravery, love, honesty or family. Make sure you know what the writer is saying.

Sometimes, themes are hard to find out. First, the theme may not be able to be included in just one word like the examples above. There may also be more than one theme in the text. What’s more, some themes are not presented in the words directly. You have to use clues in the texts to find them.

To start exploring the theme, first you need to make sure you’ve read the whole text. Since themes develop over time, you can’t fully understand the underlying themes until the end of the text. Then, ask yourself to sum up（概括）the text and try to work out a “big idea”. For example, did many characters resolve problems with their families? If there was only one small problem with a character’s family, then “family” might not be the theme of the text. Finally, after finding out a “big idea”, go through the text to find examples that support this idea. You needn’t repeat every detail of the story-a few key examples will be fine.

China already has more than 900 million Internet users. Among them, those aged 60 and above  make up more than 6 per cent, according to a recent report.

Even though some elderly can get online, they mainly do it for communication and searching for information. Other services are still strange to them. That's why elderly people are sometimes called "digital refugees（数字难民）".

For example, since the COVID-19 broke out, people in China have been required to show a green health code on their phone to get into public places. But most elderly people don't know how to use smartphones. This is a common problem faced by the elderly in the digital age.

"We have worked lifelong for our society, but now we feel abandoned（抛弃）by it, "a 75- year-old woman in Beijing told the reporter.

What causes the problem? For the elderly, one way of being skilled in digital technology is to learn from younger family members. However, no all of these younger people have the patience or time to teach the elderly.

Moreover, aging results in many physical problems. The elderly usually can't see the screen clearly. Also, they have a poor memory. This makes it harder for them to use smartphones.

The government and other organizations in China are trying to help. See Young, an organization in Beijing, tries to help China's elderly use mobile services. Student volunteers have provided free computer and smartphone training for elderly people in over 200 communities across the country.

Zhao Jingchuan, 17, from Xi'an Gaoxin No. 1 High School, and his team members also tried to help. This year, their draft proposal（草拟提案）was brought to the two missions（两会）. They suggested more ways to help introduce the technology to the older people, including sending manuals（手册）, offering technical support and cyber security（网络安全） education.
