What do three hearts, eight arms and one huge brain add up to?An octopus, a creature that can do amazing things.Octopuses are very clever. As they don't have teeth or sharp claws to defend themselves, they have ever learnt a few tricks to get out of dangerous situations.Do you know how they do that?
They often hide themselves in the sand on the bottom of the ocean floor. Some octopuses like to stay in more shallow water where there are rocks.Because octopuses have very soft bodies, they can hide themselves into small spaces between the rocks to get rid of enemies.
The octopus is like a chameleon because it can change the color of its skin to match the sand. This color change happens in less than a minute.
Another way an octopus can protect itself is by shooting ink.It can shoot ink into the water. The ink forms a cloud to blind its enemies. It's like a magician doing a disappearing act.
If an octopus is being attacked, it can make itself look like a sea snake. It will bury itself in the sand except two arms.It will change the color of those arms to match a sea snake.
But what if there's no time to escape? It can break off one of its arms. The arm will then change colors and move around the water. As the enemy starts chasing after the arm, the octopus can swim away quickly.Don't worry, though. The octopus' arm will grow back soon.

Tyler had broken his arm in a bicycle accident. A car knocked Tyler down when it came out of a side street without stopping. The accident happened because there was no stop sign at the corner and the car didn' t stop. So Tyler decided to try to get the city to put up a stop sign.
First, Tyler wrote a petition(请愿书)to have a stop sign put up with his parents' help. Then, Tyler and his parents asked their neighbors, friends, teachers, classmates… almost everyone they knew to sign the petition. Soon, there were hundreds of names on the petition.
Tyler also got some information about other accidents at the same corner where he had had his own accident. If he could show the city that it was a dangerous corner, they might put up a stop sign there. He hoped that this information and his petition would work.
When the petition was ready, Tyler and his parents went to a meeting of the city council(政务委员会). They brought along the petition and the other information. After a long wait, Tyler got a chance to tell what had happened to him. He told the story of the bicycle accident and explained his idea. If there were a stop sign at the corner where the accident happened, other kids would be safer.
After that, Tyler read the petition out loud. Then, he handed it and the other information to the council. The city council agreed to consider the request and make a decision before their next meeting.
The next month, Tyler and his parents attended another meeting of the city council. The head of the city council announced that the city had decided to agree to the petition! There would be a stop sign at the corner where Tyler had his accident. Now other kids would be safer when they rode their bikes.

    (D)
Have you ever met large changes in life and work? How would you feel in most cases? In fact, we all have to go through the grief cycle(悲伤周期), which has the following periods:
The first period: "It can' t be happening."
Anger: "Why me? It' s not fair."
Depression: "I' m so sad. Why do I have to do all of these?"
Acceptance: "It' s going to be OK."
I' m honestly not sure how scientific this model is, but I certainly believe that you will work better after going through these major changes.
Find out what your anger does for you---good or bad?
What does being angry do for you? Think back to the situation where you have been angry at work and ask yourself how it influences you, including: your relationship with co-workers, the quality(质量) of your work and health, how you feel outside of work, your relationship with friends and family.
Find out what makes you angrier and less angry.
What makes you angrier? Which thoughts, situations, people or conversations set you off? And what makes you less angry? I' m sure you are not angry all the time. What makes you calm and stops you from feeling angry? Find out. Then start doing less of what makes you angry and more of the things that cool you down.
    Focus on gratitude.
What are you grateful for? As I mentioned above, anger is part of the grief cycle which is connected with what you lose.Gratitudeis the opposite of loss because it comes from the good things you have in your life. It' s simple. Every evening, sit down with a piece of paper and make two gratitude lists: three things I was grateful for at work today; three things I was thankful for in life today.
Change your focus from "What was done to me" to "What I can do".
I know this is the basic piece of all self-help advice. Life is 10% about what happens to you and 90% about howyou deal with it, or you must take responsibility for your own situation, rather than be a victim(牺牲品) of it. That kind of advice can get pretty boring. But that doesn' t make it less true.
( )39. Why does the writer begin the text by asking questions?
    A. To explain facts. B. To express disagreement.
    C. To give opinions. D. To catch the readers' interest.
( )40. What' s the writer' s suggestion about dealing with anger?
    A. Love friends and family. B. Do things that make you peaceful.
    C. Be friendly to co-workers. D. Write down what makes you angry.
( )41. What does the underlined word "gratitude" most probably mean?
    A. Thanks. B. Safety. C. Courage. D. Praise.
( )42. Which of the following best describes the last piece of advice?
    A. Creative. B. Special. C. Valuable. D. Doubtful.
( )43. What is the text mainly about?
    A. What the grief cycle is about. B. How to deal with the grief cycle.
    C. What causes the grief cycle. D. How the grief cycle influences people.

    五、任务型阅读 (本题共10小题;每小题1分, 计10分)表格
    阅读下面的短文, 根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最怡当的单词, 每个空格只填一个单词。
You have studied hard in class, done all of your homework, and you think you have understood the material, but then the day of the test comes. Suddenly, you feel so nervous that you can’t answer the questions. If this sounds like you, you may have a case of test anxiety--- the nervous feeling that people sometimes get when they’re about to take a test.
Test anxiety can be a real problem when someone is so stressed out over a test that he or she can’t focus on the test questions and do his or her best work. Feeling ready to meet the challenge, though, can keep test anxiety at a manageable level.
Use a little stress to your advantage. Stress is a signal that helps you prepare for something important that is about to happen. Instead of reacting to the stress by worrying or complaining about the test with friends, let stress remind you to study well before a test.
Ask for help. If having a test stresses you out so much that your mind goes blank and causes you to miss answers that you know, then your level of test anxiety probably needs your care. You should talk to your teacher if you get extreme test anxiety.
Be prepared. Some students think that going to class is all it takes to learn and do well in tests, but there is much more to learning than just hoping to take in everything in class. That is why good study habits and skills are so important ---and why no amount of cramming (临时死记硬背) or study the night before a test can take the place of the deeper level of learning that happens over time with regular study.
Also, take care of your health---by getting enough sleep, exercise, and eating well before a test ---can help keep your mind working at its best.
Everything takes time and practice, and learning to beat test anxiety is no different. It won’t go away overnight, but facing and dealing with test anxiety will help you deal with stress management, which is a valuable skill in many situations besides taking tests.
Learn to fight 49 test anxiety
    50 is test anxiety?
It is a 51 feeling that people sometimes get when they are about to take a test.
