Give someone of any age a creative task, encourage them to let their imagination run free, and magic
can happen. This is exactly what happened to residents at a nursing home for the elderly, in the spa
town of Cheltenham, in the UK. Wanting to put their art skills to the test, they decided to pick up their
paintbrushes, and combine these with their best photography and acting skills to recreate famous works
of art from art history, but the paintings feature their own faces.
This painting activity took place at Sandfields, a residential home for seniors managed by Care UK.
It was inspired by The Big Draw, a month-long worldwide art festival celebrating the power of drawing.
As Care UK explained,“The residents first studied the original artworks to learn the poses of the people
in the paintings. Then they imitated (模仿) them. Once the old people’s poses were captured, each of
the photos was printed and photocopied before being glued to its famous background. Now the
residents’ new creations are on display in the home for everyone to enjoy.”
Commenting on the artistic effort, resident Consuelo, who had posed as the Mona Lisa, said, “I
really enjoyed posing or the picture.”Dee, 95, who painted Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night,
said,“I have always enjoyed painting. It’s relaxing and creative. When I was a child, my parents often
encouraged me to sit and draw for hours. No matter what your age, you must try and try again. Then
you’ll be surprised at what you can do.” The home’s manager, Malaika Charles, believes that drawing
is a great hobby for all older people. “From increased motor skills to improved coordination (协调能
力), creative activities can truly improve brain function and even reduce the rate of development for a
range of memory conditions,”she explained. Malaika and her team feel proud of the artworks created
    by the residents.
    24. What’s the main feature of the activity at Sandfields?
    A. It showed the combination of tradition and imagination.
    B. It asked the participants to share their views on history.
    C. It focused on spreading the benefits and advantages of photography.
    D. It developed into a worldwide art festival.
    25. Why did the participants need to study the original works of art?
    A. To exchange ideas and feelings with other old people.
    B. To ensure their creations are in agreement with the originals.
    C. To understand the artists’ creative background and inspiration.
    D. To provide professional and creative guidance for visitors.
    高一英语 第 3 页 共 8 页

    26. What did Consuelo’s and Dee’s comments on the activity show?
    A. It was challenging for some old painters.
    B. It offered them a sense of joy and satisfaction.
    C. It attracted a lot of attention in the art field.
    D. It aroused more people’s interest and love in art.
    27. What is the benefit of this activity for the elderly according to Malaika?
    A. Awakening their memories.
    B. Developing their language skills.
    D. Improving their physical and mental health.
    C. Strengthening their bonds with the families.

The amount of artificial dairy products (milk products) is growing and the choices seem endless. A
report shows that sales of plant-based dairy alternatives (替代品) grew twice as fast as real milk in
2020. But some people won’t make the change because the alternatives don’t taste the same as milk.
Danone, which is known for its yogurt, will be launching two new milk alternatives that actually
taste like the milk coming from a cow in North America. The new plant-based milk will be part of the
company’s Silk and So Delicious lines and will be in grocers in early 2023. Danone is relying on the
new products to reach people who want to switch from dairy products for health reasons but enjoy the
taste of milk in their coffee and breakfast cereals.
While the company has been in the artificial dairy business since 2016, the products did not have the
real dairy taste. The company used its experience with both real dairy and artificial dairy products to
    improve the new products.
“The flavor of milk is hard to replicate (复制) because it is a complex mix of sweetness, creaminess,
and other things. It is also important to get the taste of the artificial milk to feel the same as cow’s
milk”, Takoua Debeche, Danone North America’s chief research and innovation officer said. It took
two years to perfect the formula (配方), but the new products have the taste and feel of real milk.
While Danone is working on its new products, there are other milk alternatives available that also
aim to be more milk-like. The company hopes that people will buy its artificial milk creations as well
as the real dairy products that define its name.“Every person in the household doesn’t necessarily have
the same tastes, needs or desires. So we want to really make sure that we have multiple offerings,”said
John Starkey, president of plant-based food and beverages for Danone North America.
    28. What is Danone’s purpose of launching the new milk alternatives?
    A. To change people’s eating habits.
    B. To meet people’s need for both taste and health.
    C. To help people build good body shape. D. To gradually replace real milk in the market.
    29. What can we conclude from Takoua Debeche’s words?
    A. They have rich resources to make milk alternatives.
    B. Making satisfying plant-based milk is tough work.
    C. Artificial milk is more valuable than cow’s milk.
    D. Consumers have high expectations for the new milk.
    30. What does the underlined word“multiple”in the last paragraph probably mean?

Teenagers are growing increasingly inactive worldwide. Worse still is the fact that Australia, a
nation that prides itself on its outdoor culture, is doing particularly poorly. We’re currently ranked
140th out of 146 countries for teenage exercise levels. The data shows that 85% of girls are physically
inactive compared to 78% of boys. In Australia, less than 1 in 10 teenagers aged 12 to 18 are meeting
the recommended levels of physical activity.
The current guidelines and evidence show that teenagers should be doing at least 60 minutes of
moderate to vigorous (高强度的) physical activity per day. This should include muscle and bone
strengthening activities on at least three days per week, meanwhile limiting recreational screen time to
a maximum of 2 hours per day.
Not being active can cause a range of health conditions leading to early adulthood and beyond.
Adolescents may have decreased bone and cardio-metabolic (心脏代谢的 ) health which leaves them
facing an increased risk of chronic disease in later life, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high
cholesterol, and decreased fitness. If you’re not moving enough you’re also at an increased risk of
being overweight or obese, with data already showing that 29.8% of teenagers (14-17) are classified as
    overweight or obese.
So how can we get teenagers to exercise more? Firstly, high schools should place more importance
on lunchtime and allow 1-hour breaks that increase physical activity. We should also encourage
teenagers to be active on their lunch break. Parents and guardians also have an important role to play
and should aim to devote 1 hour a day to moving more. This does not need to be 1 full hour and can be
broken down into 2 x 30-minute parts. The most important factor is to identify your teenager’s interests
and needs surrounding their physical activity.
Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance in finding a safe and fun exercise program. An qualified
exercise physiologist or exercise scientist can help your child find a way to be more active that is suited
to their needs, age of development, and interests.
    32. What does the data about teenagers in Australia show?
    A. Girls are more active than boys.
    B. They generally lack enough exercise.
    D. They are proud of their outdoor culture.
    C. Boys prefer vigorous physical activity.
    33. What does the author mainly intend to say with facts in Paragraph 3?
    A. A lack of exercise does lasting harm to health.
    B. Outdoor activities help build positive characters.
    C. Most chronic diseases come from getting overweight.
    D. Teenagers tend to take in more calories than they actually need.
    34. What is especially important when it comes to encouraging teenagers to exercise more?
    高一英语 第 5 页 共 8 页

    A. Parents’ full participation in exercising.
    C. Taking their interests into consideration.
    B. Improvement in the school PE course.
    D. Arranging a balanced diet for them.
    35. Why does the author most probably write the text?
    A. To recommend fun exercise programs.
    B. To encourage physical activity in teenagers.
    C. To explain the reason for teenagers’ poor health.
    D. To show the way to build a good living habit.
    第二节(共 5小题;每小题 2.5分,满分 12.5分)
    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
    Ways to protect the environment
We only have one earth. 36 To leave a fine planet for our children and future generations, we all
need to take steps to develop better living habits. And here are some ways to protect the environment.
Consume less. Freebies (赠品) in events, cheap goods in the sales, etc. may make your life better,
but few of those are essential. And they almost always end up in the trash can or are forgotten in the
back of a closet. So next time you’re hesitating about buying or accepting a non-essential item, think
over whether it will truly improve your life or do harm to the environment. 37
Turn waste into treasure. 38 Not only does it keep items out of trash cans, but it can also prevent
you from purchasing new items, which require lots of resources to produce. Moreover, children love
making things. So instead of heading towards the craft store, check out your recycling bin first and
    stimulate your children’s imagination.
39 Did you know it takes over 700 gallons of water to grow enough cotton to make just one plain
T-shirt? Instead of going to the mall to buy new clothes, you can consider looking first in a secondhand
shop or trading clothes. Second-hand shopping also applies to many other categories of consumer
goods such as furniture, cars and children’s toys.
Walk, bike or car sharing. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a typical
passenger vehicle emits (排放) about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year. Thus, any
amount of what you can cut back on will count. For short trips, you can try walking or biking. 40 If
travelling on foot or by bike isn’t practical, you can try carpooling with a friend, neighbour or coworker
    to the same destination.
    A. Choose second-hand stores.
    B. If not, it’s okay to just say,“No, thanks!”
    C. Saving water can have a huge impact on the environment.
    D. Plastic bottles are a clear example of environmental pollution.
    E. In this way, you can get some exercise without going to the gym.
    F. However, humans haven’t been very good protectors of the earth over the years.
    G. Creating something new with unwanted items is a good way to protect the environment.

“It’s a perfect day for fishing!”Michael heard his father, Andrew, say as he set up their equipment on
the bank of a river.“Yeah!”Michael responded.Once Andrew finished setting up, they sat down to fish.
Michael gladly looked at the river, where the waves waved in and out every so often. It was peaceful
there.“Next time, we can also swim here,”the boy told his father, who nodded in agreement. Then, they
kept silent in case the noise scared the fish away.
An hour later, Andrew’s phone rang.“Hello?”he answered, and after listening for a few seconds, he
pulled the phone down to look at Michael.“Son, this is an important call. I’m going to be by the trees
    over there. Be careful.”
Andrew walked a few steps away, and Michael watched him until he saw his dad pacing around the
same spot. The little boy then watched their fishing poles carefully in case there was any movement.
But something strange caught Michael’s attention. From a distance, he saw something moving in the
water, and at first, he thought someone was swimming. But soon enough, the boy realized it was a dog,
and the poor pet appeared to have been caught in a current (水流) that started pulling it away.
“Oh, no! Dad! Dad!”Michael shouted, but Andrew couldn’t hear his cries from that distance. The
current started pulling the dog further, and Michael panicked(惊慌失措 ). He had no idea what to do
and wanted to run to his father, but he stopped when he spotted a swim ring among their equipment.
Andrew brought it in case Michael wanted to swim, although their plan was always to just fish. The
little boy stared at it, looked up, and saw the dog still struggling. Thinking it might be drowning (淹死),
he made a very quick decision.
Taking the swim ring and taking off his shoes, Michael ran toward the water and started swimming
to reach the dog. His mother took him to swimming lessons every week, so he considered himself good.
However,he had yet to go through such deep water, which was scary.
    Paragraph 1:
But Michael had to do something to help the dog. ________________________________________
