This is not a problem in Munich even if it is already the afternoon. The last light of the day can always be enjoyed. Here are four hiking tours for late risers and after-work athletes. Let’s get out into nature quickly.
The Sundown Tour
With a bit of luck, after 5 p. m. you will have the whole view to yourself. Lake Walchensee lies below, opposite is the Herzogstand mountain, with the red sun setting below it. If you are walking down the mountain in the dark, however, you should always have headlamps with you, otherwise it will become too dangerous.
The Quick Tour
Sometimes the god stuff is so much closer than you think, on the Neureuth mountain, for example. The tour from the railway station in Tegermsee up to the mountain is comparably short and therefore suitable for all walkers who just want to stretch their legs after work has finished.
The Railway Tour
The greatest advantage of the Laber for late-in-the-day leisure walkers lies, however, in the mountain railway: its last trip down the mountain doesn’t leave until between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. So you do not need to worry whether you still have enough time for the relaxing return journey.
The Cycling Tour
Who says that people who like to take exercise later on in the day always have to walk? Even many Munich residents forget that, in addition to the river Isar, there is a river in the city which is just as beautiful. If you want to explore the river and the associated Wurmtal valley, rent a bike and follow the shore from Pasing over Grafelfing and Gauting as far as Starnberg.
21. Which tour best suits a tourist who prefers doing light exercise?
A. The Sundown Tour. B. The Quick Tour.
C. The Railway Tour. D. The Cycling Tour.
22. What is needed to take the Cycling Tour?
A. A headlamp. B. A guide. C. A mountain bike. D. A railway ticket.
23 What do the four tours have in common?
A. Providing safety experience. B. Demanding a low budget.
C. Covering rivers and valleys. D. Suiting after-work tourists.
B
At a restaurant, a cockroach(蟑螂) suddenly flew from somewhere and sat on a lady. She started screaming out of fear. With a panic stricken face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to throw away the cockroach. Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group also got panicky.
The lady finally managed to push the cockroach away but ...it landed on another lady in the group. Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the drama. The waiter rushed forward to their rescue. In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter. The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behavior of the cockroach on his shirt. When he was confident enough, he grabbed it with his fingers and threw it out of the restaurant.
Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, I picked up a few thoughts and started wondering, was the cockroach responsible for their dramatic behavior? If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed? He handled it near to perfection, without any chaos. It is not the cockroach, but the inability of those people to handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach, that disturbed the ladies.
I realized that, it is not the shouting of my father or my boss or my wife that disturbs me, but it's my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their shouting that disturbs me. It's not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that disturbs me. More than the problem, it's my reaction to the problem that creates chaos in my life.
24 What does word “the drama” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Escape from the restaurant . B. Sip her coffee.
C. Get rid of the cockroach. D. Rush to the waiter.
25. Which of the following best describes the waiter?
A. Calm. B. Brave. C. Confident. D. Stubborn.
26. What disturbed the lady according to the author?
A. Being laughed at by her group. B. Her fear of the cockroach.
C. Her incapability to deal with the cockroach. D. Her jumping and screaming.
27. What does the author try to convey in the text?
A. It is never too late to learn.
B. Think twice before you act.
C. Always be ready to help others.
D. Your reaction to the problem determines how you feel.
C
A computer program has been used to predict how people are feeling when they type.
In a study participants were asked to type a particular phrase and the program then estimated if they were happy, sad and so on. Surprisingly it was correct 70 per cent of the time, and the findings could lead to smarter artificial intelligence in the future.
The study published in the journal Behavior and Information Technology was carried out by researchers at the Islamic University of Technology in Bangladesh, reports Live Science.
In the research 25 people ranging from 15 to 40 years old were asked to retype two paragraphs from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland written by Lewis Carroll. They also had to enter their emotional state every 30 minutes while doing their regular activities on the computer. This allowed the program an opportunity to understand how their emotions changed their typing style.
Moods tested were joy, fear, anger, sadness, hate, and shame. The result was that the program could identify(识别) a person' s mood correctly 70 per cent of the time. It was most successful in identifying joyfulness with an 87 per cent success ratio, while sadness was the least successful at 60 per cent. The researchers found that the participants were less likely to input (输入) data when they were in a bad mood, which may explain the inexactness of the second result.
However, the findings could have great importance for artificial intelligence, and it may allow computers to get along with us in a friendlier manner, “If we could build any system that is intelligent enough to communicate with humans that is, it can identify user emotions and change its behavior accordingly then using machines could be more effective and friendly.” the researchers wrote.
28. Who conducted the study?
A. Lewis Carroll. B. Islamic University of Technology.
C. Live Science. D. Behavior and Information Technology.
29. What were people asked to do during the research?
A. Input words and emotional state. B. Change their typing styles.
C. Change their feelings frequently. D. Show their natural feelings.
30. Why is the result about sadness not so correct?
A. People usually hide their unhappy feelings.
B. The program cannot recognize sadness clearly.
C. The program cannot calculate the data correctly.
D. It's more difficult to collect data when people are sad.
31. What's the importance of the research result?
A. It helps people develop smarter machines.
B. It helps people speed up their typing speed.
C. It will inspire similar studies on people's mood.
D. It clearly explains the relationship between mood and typing.
D
We can video chat with astronauts aboard the International Space Station and watch live footage from the frozen heights of Everest. But communicating with a submarine (潜艇) or a diver is not so easy. The lack of practical methods for sharing data between underwater and airborne devices has long been a frustration for scientists. The difficulty stems from the fact that radio signals work perfectly in air travel but poorly in water. Sonar (声呐) signals used by underwater sensors reflect off the surface of the water rather than reaching the air.
Now, researchers at MIT have developed a method with the potential to revolutionize underwater communication. “What we’ve shown is that it’s actually feasible to communicate from underwater to the air,” says Fadel Adib, a professor at MJT’s Media Lab, who led the research. The MIT researchers designed a system that uses an underwater machine to send sonar signals to the surface, making vibrations (震动) corresponding to the 1s and 0s of the data. A surface receiver then reads and decodes these tiny vibrations. The researchers call the system TARF. It has any number of potential real-world uses, Adib says. It could be used to find downed planes underwater by reading signals from sonar devices in a plane’s black box and it could allow submarines to communicate with the surface.
Right now the technology is low-resolution (低分辨率). The initial study was conducted in the MIT swimming pool at maximum depths of around 11 or 12 feet. The next steps for the researchers are to see if TARF is workable at much greater depths and under varying conditions—high waves, storms, schools of fish. They also want to see if they can make the technology work in the other direction— air to water.
If the technology proves successful in real-world conditions, expect “texting while diving” to be the latest underwater fashion.
32. What does the author mainly talk about in Paragraph 1?
A. The future of video chat underwater and in air.
B. The difficulty of communication from water to air.
C. The frustrations of developing underwater devices.
D. The current situation of communicating with a submarine.
33. What does the underlined word “feasible” mean?
A. Convenient. B. Changeable.
C. Achievable. D. Alternative.
34. What do we know about TARF?
A. It is widely used to find downed planes.
B. It can work well at great depths underwater.
C. It is an underwater machine that sends signals.
D. It can send, receive and read signals from underwater.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Real-world Uses of Sonar Technology.
B. Full Air-to-water Communication Closer to Reality.
C. TARF Becoming a New Means of Communication.
D. A Breakthrough in the Application of Submarines.

How to Communicate With a Deaf Person
Communicating with a deaf person doesn’t have to be as difficult as it might seem. The trick is to be patient, straightforward, and to remember that deaf people communicate visually. Before you know it, you’ll forget you were ever worried!
Method 1: Staring Your Conversation
_____36_____You can do this by moving into the person’s field of vision and waving from a polite distance, or by tapping the person gently on the shoulder. If it’s a real emergency, you can also turn the lights off and on quickly.
Position yourself carefully. Make sure that the light in the room is shining directly onto your face, and that you’re not standing with your back to a light. ___37___
Find out how the person prefers to communicate. Some deaf people are better lip-readers than others. Some deaf people may prefer to write back and forth or to use an interpreter. Man interactions between the deaf and the hearing require a combination of these methods. ___38___
Method 2: Communicating through Lip-reading.
Keep your sentences simple and use plain language. ____39____The more complex your phrasing and vocabulary the more likely your deaf companion is to miss something. Try to avoid using slang or expressions that aren’t widely known.
When someone else is speaking, don’t turn away from the deaf person in your group. ____40____You don’t have to look at the deaf person while someone else is talking, but try to make sure your face is visible.
A. Get the person’s attention.
B. It’s important not talk too quickly.
C. Or, they’ll miss parts of the conversation.
D. If so, it’ll make them feel left out of the conversation.
E. Stand directly in front of the person, at a normal distance.

【原文】M: Bonnie, I’m super nervous right now.
W: Why, what’s up? I thought you were flying down to L.A. today. Are you afraid of flying or something?
M: No, I fly all the time. It’s just that I’m doing my biggest interview of my entire career tomorrow, and I don’t want to mess it up.
W: Come on, you’ve been at the magazine for more than a year. Your editor wouldn’t send you down there unless he had confidence in your abilities. Who is the interview with?
M: Quentin Tarantino.
W: Uh...what? Quentin Tarantino? The director? Are you serious?
M: Yeah!
W: Oh, my God! I can’t believe this! Pulp Fiction is my favorite movie of all time, and Kill Bill might be number two. And even my parents liked Jackie Brown. He’s, like, A-list famous! He might be the best director of the last twenty years.
M: Do you see now why I’m nervous?
W: Yes, I’d be scared out of my mind if I were you. But this will be good for your career. Hey, there is something that I still don’t understand.
M: What?
W: Why on earth did Quentin Tarantino agree to do an interview for your magazine, Trevor?
M: What’s that supposed to mean?
W: Um...never mind. Good luck down there! Get a good night’s sleep tonight because Saturday will be the biggest day of your life!

第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
This is not a problem in Munich even if it is already the afternoon.
23. What do the four tours have in common?
A. Providing safety experience. B. Demanding a low budget.
C. Covering rivers and valleys. D. Suiting after-work tourists.
【答案】21. B 22. C 23. D

24. What does word “the drama” in paragraph 2 refer to?

【答案】32. B 33. C 34. D 35. C

Find out how the person prefers to communicate Some deaf people are better lip-readers than others. Some deaf people may prefer to write back and forth or to use an interpreter. Man interactions between the deaf and the hearing require a combination of these methods. ___38___
Method 2: Communicating through Lip-reading.
Keep your sentences simple and use plain language. ____39____The more complex your phrasing and vocabulary, the more likely your deaf companion is to miss something.
F. The best way to know which methods are most effective is to ask.
G. Try not to be too difficult when using your words in the beginning.
【答案】36. A 37. E 38. F 39. G 40. D
