The Prettiest College Campuses in the United States

    Flagler College

While you’ll find plenty of attractive college campuses with Gothic, Georgian, and Jeffersonian architecture, Flagler College is in a category of its own. Located in historic St. Augustine, Florida, the college's main building is Ponce de Leon Hall. Built in 1888 by Henry Morrison Flagler, the building features the work of famous nineteenth -century artists and engineers including Tiffany, Maynard, and Edison. The building, one of the most impressive examples of Spanish Renaissance architecture in the country, is a National Historic Landmark.

    Princeton University

All eight of the Ivy League schools have impressive campuses, but Princeton University has appeared on more rankings of pretty campuses than any of the others. Located in Princeton, New Jersey, the school covers 500 acres housing over 190 buildings featuring plenty of stone towers and Gothic arches. The campus's oldest building, Nassau Hall, was completed in 1756. More recent buildings have drawn on architectural heavyweights, such as Frank Gehry, who designed the Lewis Library.

    Rice University

The Academic Quadrangle, a large grassy area, sits at the heart of the campus with the Lovett Hall, the university's most iconic building, situated on the eastern edge. Fondren Library stands on the opposite end of the quad. The majority of campus buildings were constructed in the Byzantine style.

    University of Richmond

The University of Richmond occupies a 350-acre campus on the outskirts of Richmond, Virginia. The university's buildings are mostly constructed from red brick in the Collegiate Gothic style that is popular on so many campuses. Many of the early buildings were designed by Ralph Adams Cram, who also designed buildings for two other campuses on this listRice University and Princeton University.

    My First Day of School

Fear started taking over, I was walking into my first school in America. I had traveled a long distance from India in order to join my parents, who had been there for three years, hoping America would help my future. My father decided that I would be better off going to school here, so I enrolled 登记in the local high school in my new town.

I was worried how I would do. On the first day, I went to my second period class after I had missed my first. With butterflies in my stomach, I reached for the door, opening it slowly. Without paying attention to my classmates, I went straight to the teacher and asked if this was the right class. With a soft voice he answered, “Yes. " His voice comforted me a little. He gave me a sheet called Course Requirements, which I would never get in India because we didn't have anything like that. Then he asked me to choose where I would sit. I didn't actually want to pick a seat. In India we had fixed seats, so I never needed to worry about that. I spent the rest of the class taking notes from the image produced by the overhead projector. In Indian schools, we didn't use the technology we had. We had to take notes as the teacher spoke.

It was noon. I was very confused about when I would have lunch. I went to my next class and the bell rang as I entered. I went through the regular process of asking the teacher if I was in the right class. She said, "It's still fourth period. ”

“ But the bell just rang, “ I said.

Changing from a gentle tone to a harsher 刺耳的one, she said, “ That is the lunch bell, young man. ”

I apologized. Without another word I headed for the cafeteria. I felt lucky because we didn't have this in India. Every confusion seemed like a barrier I had to get through to reach my goal. At the end of the day, I was on my way to the bus which we didn't have in India either. I spotted my bus and sat down inside happily. I was thinking, today wasn't so bad.

How can humans become immortal 永生的You might have only seen the idea of uploading the human brain to a digital cloud in science fiction movies. Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, has already done so. The secret was revealed when a question posted on Twitter caught his attention.

“If you could upload your brain to the cloud, and talk to a virtual version of yourself, would you be buddies?” Musk replied on July 19, 44 Already did it. " The reply indicated that Musk's brain-computer interface company, Neuralink, had already realized the technology, according to Xinhua.

Neuralink was founded by Musk in 2016. The company focuses on brain-computer interface technology which is used to connect the brain to a digital network. It is developing devices for the treatment of patients with neurological disorders神经障碍.In other words, the company aims to create links between mind and machine, according to Psychology Today.

So how do brain-computer interfaces work? Computers designed to learn the patterns of neural activity are used to extract information from human brains. For example, if a person imagines picking up a book, the computer would then learn to identify how the brain gives that command. Next, the computer would send the signal to the machine, which would then move a robotic arm to reach for the book.

Uploading a brain is only part of Musk's plan. He revealed to Insider that his goal is to download human consciousness into robots. Just like how our memories are stored in mobile phones through pictures and videos, Musk imagines that our brains-not only how we think, but also our personalities and habits-can be transferred into robots. In this way, even after our bodies decay 腐朽),our brains are preserved. Some experts believe that this could be achievable one day, but the timeline is unclear. "The most wildly optimistic predictions place mind uploading within a few decades, but I would not be surprised if it took centuries, wrote Michael S. A. Graziano, a professor at Princeton University, in a Wall Street Journal essay.

The idea of low material desire, low consumption and refusing to work, marry and have children, concluded as a 44 lying down“ lifestyle, recently struck a chord with many young Chinese who are eager to take pause to breathe in this fast-paced and highly-competitive society.

    A. Understanding. B. Intolerant. C. Supportive. D. Unclear.

    第二节(5小题海小题2.5分,满分12.5)

    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余 选项。

It is very common that many students complain they lack concentration. For example, "I can't concentrate.36

We all have the ability to concentrate. Think of the times when you are attracted to a super novel or the times when you are playing the guitar or piano. But at other times your mind races from one thing to another. 37

Rest from time to time. Remember to take short breaks. Lectures are usually 50 minutes long, and that’s about the length of time most people can direct their attention to one task. 38 Your concentration time might be shorter (20-35 minutes) or longer ( perhaps 90 minutes). When you take a break, you get more oxygen to your brain! When we sit for long periods, blood tends to be pooled in our lower body. Get up and walk around the room for a couple of minutes. As a result, more oxygen is carried to the brain and you can concentrate better.

Reward yourself. Give yourself a reward when you've completed a task. 39 But giving yourself a reward can lead you to be more interested in doing other tasks.

40 Your concentration wanders more easily if you just read an article straight through. Instead, turn the heading of each part into a question. For this part, that would be, “How can I increase my activity level while studying?” Then study this part to answer that question. Do this routinely. The questions give you a focus for each part and increase your involvement.

    1.     But that’s just an average.
    2.    Increase your activity level.
    3.    Do something more challenging.
    4.     Here are some tips to help you focus.
    5.    My mind wanders when I want to study.
    6.    In this way you can pay more attention to something that is different.
    7.     The task might be small, such as staying with a difficult paper until you've finished.

I couldn't bear it any longer! My best friend had gone for lunch with the most popular girl in class, leaving me to eat my tuna sandwich alone in the library. Worse still, during dance class, my partner, a boy, refused to hold my hand and bad mouthed me behind my back, further feeding my anger. It was, without a doubt, my worst day in school. I was hurt and mad, and looking for a target to release my anger.

When I got home from school, Mother had baked peanut butter cookies and piled them up on a plate. She even artfully decorated each one with royal icing and topped it with sugar. "Couldn't you have made chocolate chip?” I said moodily. "I could have,“ she replied from the laundry room, “but I made peanut butter ones. Eat them while they're still hot, sweetie. Although I thought Mother was rather unthoughtful, I caved in and took a few bites unwillingly in the end. Later, when she pulled a grilled chicken from the oven and sang a merry tune, I somehow got annoyed again Never mind that Mother had busied herself the whole afternoon with the cooking just to put this hot meal on the table. I wanted hamburgers.

“Nobody even likes that kind of food, Mum! Why didn't you make hamburgers complained. Mother took a deep breath, ran her fingers through her messy hair and looked into my eyes with a puzzled look. 44 Sweetheart, you've never complained about having it before. What’s up?” she said matter-of-factly 平淡地.It was from there that all went downhill. I screamed and complained nonstop until Mother hit her limit. It was the first time that Mother had got mad at me. Nobody seemed to care about me, including my beloved mother! Ultimately, we had a shouting match in the hallway.

    注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

    2.请按如下格式作答。

Unable to contain her anger, “No dinner for you! Go to bed now!” she exploded.

Then a thick, juicy smell of hamburgers greeted my nose.
