When I was 9, we packed up our home in Los Angeles and arrived at Heathrow, London on a gray January morning. Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue-sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place. Until I made a discovery.
Southbank, at an eastern bend in the Thames, is the center of British skateboarding, where the continuous crashing of skateboards left your head ringing. I loved it. I soon made friends with the local skaters. We spoke our own language. And my favorite: Safe. Safe meant cool. It meant hello. It meant don't worry about it. Once, when trying a certain trick on the beam(横杆),I fell onto the stones, damaging a nerve in my hand, and Toby came over, helping me up: Safe, man. Safe. A few minutes later, when I landed the trick, my friends beat their boards loud, shouting: "Safe! Safe! Safe!" And that's what mattered—landing tricks, being a good skater.
When I was 15, my family moved to Washington. I tried skateboarding there, but the locals were far less welcoming. Within a couple of years, I'd given it up.
When I returned to London in 2004, I found myself wandering down to Southbank, spending hours there. I've traveled back several times since, most recently this past spring. The day was cold but clear: tourists and Londoners stopped to watch the skaters. Weaving(穿梭)among the kids who rushed by on their boards, I found my way to the beam. Then a rail-thin teenager, in a baggy white T-shirt, skidded(滑)up to the beam. He sat next to me. He seemed not to notice the man next to him. But soon I caught a few of his glances. "I was a local here 20 years ago," I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head. "Safe, man. Safe. "
    "Yeah," I said. "Safe. "

    25. What do the underlined words "Safe! Safe! Safe!" probably mean?

    B. Well done!
    C. No way!
    D. Don't worry!
    26. Why did the author like to spend time in Southbank when he returned to London?
    A. To join the skateboarding.
    B. To make new friends.

    27. What message does the author seem to convey in the text?

People in Asia care for tens of millions of pets, many of them small dogs. In the United States,89. 7 million dogs live with people. Pet ownership is on the rise, as are services to keep pets looking and feeling good.
Many dog owners say that a good groomer(动物美容师) is worth his or her weight in gold. Katy Day, 35, of Georgetown, Delaware, has been grooming dogs since she was 15. She learned the skills from a groomer. Some groomers attend a grooming school while others take classes online. But Day says getting hands-on experience is the best way to learn.
A good groomer also needs patience and a kind heart. When grooming dogs, the groomer needs to give each one a positive experience. A negative one will hang over a dog the rest of its life, making grooming more difficult. Owners can contribute to that positive experience. Day says owners must train their dogs to listen and obey basic orders. Then they will respond much better to a groomer's attention.
When bathing dogs, groomers must lift dogs into and out of a bathtub. Most dogs struggle a little and large dogs are heavy and hard to lift. Groomers also deal with their own red spots(斑点) and other skin conditions because their hands are in water often. Day says shampooing with a good quality product helps with these problems. Groomers can work a little or a lot. Day likes to groom six to eight dogs a day, but often ends up doing ten to twelve. The money is good, she says. She can make 1,500 dollars a week.
One kind of grooming that Day has never tried is creative grooming. In this kind of grooming, the animal is a canvas(画布) for artistic expression. The groomers make creative pictures in the animal's fur or make it look like a wild animal. Day says she doesn't have the talent for it but admires those who do. In no way does creative grooming hurt the animal. Creative groomers are very particular about the products they use and the animals themselves enjoy all the careful treatment they receive.

Do you know how it is when you see someone yawn and you start yawning too? Or how hard it is to be among people laughing and not laugh yourself? Well, apparently it's because we have mirror neurons (神经元) in our brains.
Put simply, the existence of mirror neurons suggests that every time we see someone else do something, our brains imitate(模仿) it, whether or not we actually perform the same action. This explains a great deal about how we learn to smile, talk, walk, dance or play sports. But the idea goes further: mirror neurons not only appear to explain physical actions, they also tell us that there is a biological basis for the way we understand other people.
Mirror neurons can undoubtedly be found all over our brains, but especially in the area which relate to our ability to use languages, and to understand how other people feel. Researchers have found that mirror neurons relate strongly to language. A group of researchers discovered that if they gave people sentences to listen to (for example: "The hand took hold of the ball"), the same mirror neurons were triggered when the action was actually performed (in this example, actually taking hold of a ball).
Any problems with mirror neurons may well result in problems with behavior. Much research suggests that people with social and behavioral problems have mirror neurons which are not fully functioning(运转). However, it is not yet known exactly how these discoveries might help find treatments for social disorders.
Research into mirror neurons seems to provide us with ever more information concerning how humans behave and interact. Indeed, it may turn out to be the equivalent(相等的东西) for neuroscience(神经科学) of what Einstein's theory of relativity was for physics. And the next time you feel the urge to cough in the cinema when someone else does-well, perhaps you'll understand why.
    32. What can mirror neurons explain according to the passage?
    A. Why we cry when we are hurt.
    B. Why we cough when we suffer from a cold.
    C. Why we smile when we see someone else smile.
    D. Why we yawn when we see someone else stay up late.
    33. What does the underlined word "triggered" in the third paragraph probably mean?
    A. Set off.
    B. Cut off.
    C. Built up.
    D. Broken up.
    34. What can we learn from the passage?
    A. Mirror neurons relate to human behavior and interaction.
    B. Mirror neurons control human physical actions and feelings.
    C. Mirror neurons result in bad behavior and social disorders.
    D. Mirror neurons determine our knowledge and language abilities.
    35. What is the passage mainly about?
    A. Ways to find mirror neurons.
    B. Problems of mirror neurons.
    C. Existence of mirror neurons.
    D. Functions of mirror neurons.

The English language has many ways to talk about something that is funny. _ 36 It is a basic human need. Physical humour, especially, can cross limits like nationality and language and bring people together from all different walks of life.
Humour comes in many forms. The most obvious and traditional way we use humour is in jokes. 37 This is when a person changes a word or uses it in a different context for comic(喜剧的) effect.
Another way people can use humour is through telling a funny story. Perhaps something bad happened to the person but they can laugh about it now. People also invent funny stories in order to make people laugh. The advantage of this is that the characters aren't real. 38

    C. Other forms of humour are word play and puns(双关语).
    D. Therefore, you don't have to feel bad for laughing at them!
    E. People of all ages and cultures have a strong sense of humour.
    F. Most people know how to use some form of humour in their native languages.

Something significant is happening to the world population-it is aging. The median(中位数的)age of an American in 1950 56 (be)30—today it is 41 and is expected 57 (increase)to 42 by 2050. For Japan, the 58 (number)are more striking—22in 1950,46 today and 53 in 2050. In 2015, one in 12 people around the world were over 65; by 2050, it will be one in six.

It was our turn to open our presents this particular Christmas morning. The living room was already covered with torn wrapping paper. Obviously, the children could hardly wait to discover the hidden treasures, which they had expected for nearly a month. Now we adults sat around the room with our presents at our feet, slowly removing the paper, trying to maintain our dignity(尊严) in front of the children.
My wife, Brenda, and her family have a tradition of getting each other gag(恶作剧)gifts. This always makes me a bit uneasy at Christmas or my birthday, never knowing what form of embarrassment lies waiting for me under the thin borders of the wrapping paper.
Recently, my six-year-old daughter Christy seemed to busy herself with something while I was playing computer video flight games. Now she was standing directly in front of me.
The excitement of the moment just beamed across her face. It was everything she could do to keep herself from helping me tear the paper from each present. Finally, I came to the last gift and with my natural Sherlock Holmes ability, I concluded that this had to be the gag gift. With everyone looking on, I decided to go ahead and get it over with--just let them have their laugh--and I tore the paper and there it was… a toy airplane about two inches long. Our holiday guests started giggling(咯咯笑) to themselves as I looked up to my wife with an unpleasant smile on my face and blurted(脱口而出) out, "A toy airplane? Are you kidding me?"
Brenda gave me the look---that look that always tells me I have just said something wrong and should have given it a second thought. I had failed to look at the name tag before I opened the present to see who it was from. As I picked up the paper from the floor and read the name tag(标签), my heart sank(下沉).

    1. 续写词数应为150左右;

    Dear everyone,
Congratulations on the tenth anniversary of English club. I feel honored to have the chance to witness this great moment with all of you.
I joined the club last year as a freshman, from which I benefited a lot both academically and interpersonally. It was here that I met many like-minded friends. Of all the activities, I like English debate best. Not only does it challenge me intellectually, but it also sharpens my debating skills.
I hope more speech contests will be held in order that we can improve our English. May more students join our club.
    That’s all. Thank you!

On the tag were the letters that read, “To Dad, Love Christy”. Scarcely had I discovered the name when a sense of repentance surged through my body, not able to believe in my silly reaction. It was in a flash that Christy burst into tears since she must have thought the toy airplane could exert tremendous fascination on me. Accordingly, I was in a flurry to console the poor little creature, wrapping her in my arms, begging for her forgiveness. However, my awkward and unskillful parenting experience contributed to my failure in soothing her, which plunged me into deep anxiety.
Staring at the gift, I suddenly thought of a way to lift her up. I hiked her up onto my shoulders, and picked up the gift, trying to mimic the scene where she was on the plane. I ran around the living room, exclaiming, “Look, we are flying in the sky. ” Not long after that, hearty laughter coming from my daughter filled the whole room. Eventually, my sinking and uneasy heart was replaced by a sigh of relief. Since then, the plane has become a strong loving bond linking my daughter with me.

On the tag were the letters that read, "To Dad, Love Christy". I felt so agonized and regretful to see her joy replaced by a look of humiliation. She must be praying that nobody would discover whom the gift came from. However, it wasn't just any present---she knew I was fascinated with planes. I quickly knelt down and embraced Christy tightly, explaining “Sorry, my little thing. I had mistaken it for the gag gift. ” But it seemed nothing I said could remove the hurt in her heart. (76 words)
Staring at the gift, I suddenly thought of a way to lift her up. I took that toy airplane in my hand and began making vivid airplane noises. I made the plane taxi onto the “runway”, and accelerated it. Soon it was in the air. Seeing my excitement when playing with the plane, Christy couldn’t help joining me in the game. It wasn't long before she believed it was really a charming gift and a big smile spread over her face. Now, I keep the little plane as a reminder of my girl's love. (80 words)

Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue -sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place. (除了我之外的家里人都很快适应这个城市,没有了我喜爱的沙滩和蓝天,我感到迷茫和无措)"可知,作者刚到伦敦的时候因为没有喜爱的少滩,不能很好的融入到新的城市,感到很沮丧。故选A。
A few minutes later, when I 1anded the trick, my friends beat their boards loud, shouting: " Safe! Safe! And that's what mattered—landing tricks, being a good skater.
I was a local here 20 years ago," I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head. "Safe, man. Safe. "(我告诉他: “我20年前经常在这里玩滑板,"他缓慢地开始向我点头:‘嗨,你好!")"可推知,作者去Southbank这个地方是为了寻找自己玩滑板的回忆。故选D。
    【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第一段"Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue—sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place. Until I made a discovery. (除了我之外的家里人都很快适应这个城市,没有了我喜爱的沙滩和蓝天,我感到迷茫和无措。直到我有了一个发现)"以及文章第二段"Southbank, at an eastern bend in the Thames, is the center of British skateboarding, where the continuous crashing of skate boards left your head ringing . I loved it. I soon made friends with the local skaters. (泰晤士河东段的南岸,是英国滑板运动的中心,在那里,滑板不断的碰撞声让你的脑袋翁嗡作响。我喜欢那里。我很快就和当地的滑板手交了朋友)"及文章倒数第二段“When I was 15, my family moved to Washington. I tried skateboarding there, but the locals were far less welcoming. Within a couple of years, I'd given it up. (我15岁时,我全家搬到了华盛顿。我试着在那里玩滑板,但当地人远不那么热情。几年之内,我就放弃了)"以及文章最后一段“When I returned to London in 2004,I found myself wandering down to Southbank, spending hours there. I've traveled back several times since, most recently this past spring.

Most dogs struggle a little and large dogs are heavy and hard to lift. Groomers also deal with their own red spots and other skin conditions because their hands are in water often. She can make 1 ,500 dollars a week.

The groomers make creative pictures in the animal's fur or make it look like a wild animal. 美容师在动物的皮毛上制作创意图片,或者让它看起来像野生动物)和最后两句“In no way does creative grooming hurt the animal. Creative groomers are very particular about the products they use and the animals themselves enjoy all the careful treatment they receive.

sentences to listen to (for example: "The hand took hold of the bal1")(一组研究人员发现,如果他们让人们听句子(例如:“手握住球”〉)”和“when the action was actuai1y performed (in this example, actually taking hold of a ball) (当这个动作真正被执行时(在这个例子中,实际上是抓住一个球))”可知,他们在做出句子描述的动作时镜像神经元被触发,因此划线词triggered的意思是“触发”,和set of相近,故选A。
Research into mirror neurons seems to provide us with ever more information concerning how humans behave and interact. (对镜像神经元的研究似乎为我们提供了更多关于人类行为和互动的信息。)”可知镜像神经元与人类行为和互动有关,故选A。

(对镜像神经元的研究似乎为我们提供了更多关于人类行为和互动的信息。)”可知,本文主要告诉我们mirror neurons的作用,D项“Functions of mirror neurons. (镜像神经元的功能。)”能概括文章大意。故选D。
