Growing up, David Flink struggled at school—despite his smarts. He had a hard time focusing in class, and he didn't understand why he couldn't learn the way other students did. Flink was often asked to leave the classroom because of the disturbance he caused. "My desk was often moved to the hallway. " he said. “I felt I didn't belong to the classroom. ”

One in five children in the United States has a learning disability. At the time, Flink didn't realize he was among them, and his struggles left him feeling lonely. It was in a hallway where Flink met his first mentor( 导 师), the school's gatekeeper. “He got to know me, and eventually we started playing chess, ”Flink said. “His company saved me. ”

At ll, Flink was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia(多动症和阅读障碍). With the support of his parents and the right school, Flink graduated from high school and went to Brown University.

When he got to college, he found a community of students who also had learning differences. Together with five of them, Flink started a mentoring program called Eye to Eye for nearby elementary school students who had a learning disability.

Since 1998, Eye to Eye has grown into a nationwide non-profit organization that pairs middle school children who have a learning difference with a college or high school mentor who also has a learning difference. The organization is in 150 schools nationwide and has more than 1, 350 mentees, influencing middle school children each week. Eighty percent of Eye to Eye students graduate from college—an impressive rate considering children with learning disabilities are three times more likely to drop out of high school.

While Flink enjoys hearing, about the academic success Eye to Eye brings to children, there's something more he finds satisfying. “When I hear that because they were in Eye to Eye, they now understand somebody else's experience better—this is what we need in America, ”Flink said. “We should love each other despite our differences. ”

    24. Which of the following can best describe Flink according to paragraph 1?

    A. Smart but lazy. B. Popular but sensitive.

    C. Stupid and troublesome.  D. Puzzled and helpless.

    D. He offered Flink medical help.

    26. What does paragraph 5 focus on concerning Eye to Eye?

    A. Its remarkable achievements.  B. Its international mentorship.

    27. What does Flink stress at last?

    A. Every experience has its value.       B. It is difficult to understand others.

    C. Love should go beyond differences.    D. Academic success is so important.

Rising seas, melting ice caps and other effects of a warming climate probably can not be changed for centuries and are driven by greenhouse-gas emissions(排放) from human activity, a scientific group working under the guidance of the United Nations said in a report.

“We've known for decades that the world is warming, but this report tells us that recent changes in the climate are widespread, rapid and unprecedented(史无前例的) in thousands of years, ”said Ko Barrett, a member of the group. “Further, it is evident that human activities are causing climate change. ”

Without rapid reductions in emissions, global temperatures could rise more than an additional 1. 5 degrees over the next 20 years, the report forecasts. Oceans are warming, and sea level is increasing by 3. 7 mm, or about 0.1 inch, a year, the scientists said in the report.

Weather around the world has grown more extreme by many measures, the scientists said, with more frequent heat waves in some regions and heavier rainfall and flooding in others.

“When you see what has happened this summer with heat waves in Canada and the heavy rainfall in Germany, I think this is showing that even highly developed countries are not spared. "said Sonia Seneviratne, a lead co-author of the report.

The report builds scientific baselines for COP26a key climate-change summit(峰会)to be held in Glasgow. Representatives from 197 countries are expected to present updated plans for reducing greenhouse-gas emissions. A global agreement resulting from a 2015 climate summit, in Paris called on nations to take steps to limit future global temperature increases to 1. 5 degrees. But the efforts are falling short.

    28. How does paragraph 3 mainly show the effect of greenhouse-gas emissions?

    A. By listing numbers.  B. By making comparisons.

    C. By mentioning various disasters.  D. By listing countries as examples.

    29. What do Sonia Seneviratne's words suggest about climate change?

    A. Its victims are able to stand its tests.    B. It barely affects developed countries.

    C. It can be controlled by some nations.    D. Its harmful effect is wide and severe.

    30. Why is COP26 to be held?

    A. To praise the work of limiting temperature increases.

    B. To promote the effort to cut greenhouse-gas emissions.

    C. To build scientific baselines for future human activity.

    D. To blame Paris on its failure to hold a climate summit.

    31. What is the text mainly about?

    A. A study.    B. A meeting.    C. A report.    D. A plan.

    D

Sharing photos of your children online can be a rewarding experience and a way to connect with other parents. But you must be prepared to be responsible about what you post.

Nowadays, raising children is a more isolated endeavor(孤立的努力)than ever before. I live, for example, thousands of miles from my family. In this atmosphere of modern parenthood, we all struggle to make it through the day, and the Internet has become an incredible source of support; In the early years of mothering twins, one of the things that brought me the most happiness was posting pictures of them on a website. Sharing those photos and engaging with an online community was a lifeline.

, Many people fear those pictures will spread further than intended. To me, that's part of the joy of it. My work as a writer has helped me create a community on social media, and the images I post of my children allow me to engage with a range of “friends” I wouldn't necessarily include on a tailored list. I delight in seeing their photos, too. You don't know whom a picture will touch and what connection will be made. Unexpected people have seen my pictures and commented on how much they enjoyed them or could relate to them.

I know there is much concern about the potential dangers in sharing pictures of children. As critics(批评者) of sharing photographs argue, there might well be much about the effects of the Internet we don't yet know. There are always unpredictable results when it comes to new technologies—but there are always new solutions. Instead of fearing the unknown, we should hug the digital world and all it has to offer by interacting with it in a civilized and dignified(有尊严的)way.

Our children are the first to grow up living in screens, so are they the first to be raised in the age of online parenting. We should be using our own first attempts into the Internet as an opportunity: Parenting is nothing if not setting a good example.

    32. What does the author say about modern parenting?

    A. It is not an easy task.      B. It never lacks relatives' support.

C It brings more happiness.      D. It is determined by the Internet.

    33. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to?

    A. Overcoming inner fear.      B. Spreading pictures further.

    C. Building an online community.     D. Posting photos of children online.

    34. How should we deal with the digital world in the author's opinion?

    A. By interacting with it casually.         B. By staying away from it.

    C. By getting connected with it positively.   D. By ignoring its potential dangers.

    35. What can be a suitable title for the text?

    A. How Should Parents Raise Children in a Digital World?

    B. Should Parents Share Photos of Their Children Online?

    C. Benefits of Posting Photos of Children on Social Media

    D. Common Problems of Raising Children on Social Media
