There can be magic in the touch of a hand that loves you. It brings comfort and a silent promise that says, “I am here and you are not alone.”
I remembered every detail about my children. As babies, they reached for me whenever they were hungry or tired or just needed to be held. Sometimes, if they woke in the night, just the touch of my hand would ease them back to sleep. They stuck to me when they took their first steps and we held hands when crossing streets and walking from the car to their classroom on their first day of school.
As they grew older and more independent, I noticed that they didn’t hold my hand much any more. I told myself it was part of growing up, and I should just be glad they could do things on their own now.
But when you’ve been needed so much for such a long time, it’s hard to step back and feel unnecessary.
Then one day, I was visiting my oldest son in New York, where he was working as an actor on a TV show. As we were about to cross a busy street that was filled with traffic, he grabbed my hand and shouted, “Hang on to me, Mom,” then led me safely across.
At that moment, I realized two things. First, my boy had become a man. Second, it was clear that our roles had changed. We still needed each other, but in different ways from before.
That scene has replayed in various ways with each of my three children. They have all taught me to lean(依靠) on them just as they once leaned on me, and that we can always lean on each other. We live miles apart, but stay in touch every day. There is magic and comfort and healing in the touch of a hand that loves you, even if it “touches” you from far away.

It is good to know that your parents will provide you a shoulder to cry on when you meet setbacks (挫折). Would it still be welcome if your mother gave up her job in order to be closer to you all the time?
Many parents in China have chosen to do so. They stay home to cook healthy food and help children with their homework, reported 21st Century Business Herald on Nov.10 and some even rent a small room near their children’s school to save them time. Such parents have got the nickname of “helicopter parents”, which means they always closely hover around their children.
“This is harmful to their children as they will not be able to learn self-dependence,” said Chicago family expert Danielle Sines.
However, parents have their own reasons. Most students in China are only children, and so parents are willing to do everything to help them stand out among the fierce(激烈的) competition, said China Youth Daily.
This June, Liu Lu began her last year in high school in Hebei. Her mother rented a small room near her school so that she could do the washing and cooking for her. “I’ll have to be there for my children as she is making that last push for college. What I do will save her a lot of time so she can better prepare for the national college entrance exam. It’s worth it,” Her mother told the reporter.
In fact, schools in Northeastern states in the USA, such as Connecticut and New York, have the same trend. In September, students moved into their dormitories but many had some extra equipment: their parents.
However, students are still advised to face new challenges standing on their own two feet.

All crew members greeted students, teachers and other participants when the lecture started. They showed viewers how they lived and worked inside the space station, which currently includes a core module (核心舱), a spacecraft and two robotic cargo spaceships.

Ye, who is on his first spaceflight, showed how he rotated (旋转) his body in the weightless environment. The astronauts also answered questions from students during the lecture.
Tens of millions of primary and middle school students across China watched the televised event hosted by the China Manned Space Agency, the Ministry of Education and other government departments.
It was the first lecture of the Tiangong Class, China’s first extraterrestrial (外显的) lecture series to popularize space science.

There are over 6,000 languages in the world. Some are more important than others, not better or more advanced, just more important. Why? Because they are spoken by more people, in more countries. On the other hand, knowing Chinese will help you learn other languages too. Today China’s economy is stronger and stronger. Chinese seems well worth learning. In fact, if you learn one, you can learn the others. I did. But hold it here, don’t be so excited! Let’s look at the present situation of language teaching. According to one Canadian survey, after 12 years of daily French classes, only one high school graduate out of 147 (0.68%) achieved middle skills. The survey showed that “classroom teaching hours” had little progress. If we cannot teach our own official languages, what hope is there for other languages like Japanese or English? We simply have to change the way we go about teaching languages. At first we need to correct five common wrong ideas about language learning.
    1.Language learning is difficult
It is only difficult to learn a language if you don’t want to. Learning a language takes
time,  but  it’s  not difficult. You  mostly  need  to  listen and read.  Believe me,  it is that simple. I have done it many times. Soon you  feel  the happiness of understanding another language. Before you know it you start speaking._____66___
2.You have to have a gift for learning languages
No, you don’t. Anyone who wants to, can learn. In many countries such as Sweden and Holland most people speak more than one language.___67___ In language learning it is attitude, not abilities, that decides success.
3.You have to live where the language is spoken
With  the  Internet,  language  content  is connected  to anyone with a computer, and you can download it to your iPad and listen.____68____
4.Only children can learn to speak another language well
Recent  research  has  showed   that  our  brains  remain  plastic well  into old age.
Adults  who lose their eyesight have to learn a new language, braille( 盲文), for example.  69 I  have  learned  4  languages  since  the  age  of  55.
Adults only  need  the child’s willingness to experiment and are willing to communicate, without the fear of ridicule(奚落).
    5. I would love to learn but I don’t have the time
How about the time you spend waiting in line, commuting, doing things around the
house,  going for  a walk?___70___.Once you  get  started,  even 10 or 15 minutes a day will soon grow to 30 minutes a day, or one hour. If you believe, you will achieve great results, and if you enjoy doing it, as I do, you will find the time.
A.You do not need to speak in order to learn, you need to learn in order to speak.
B.Adults have a wide vocabulary in their own language and are better language
    learners than children.
    C. Why not use that time to listen to a language on your iPad?
D.Where you live is not very important.
    E. It is the way languages are usually taught that makes language learning hard to like.
    F. They can’t just all be gifted at languages.

At a global congress(大会) of the Communist International(共产主义) in July 1921, for the first time ever, a Chinese man made a speech about the communist movement in his country. The man was Zhang Tailei (1898-1927), an early leader of the Communist Party of China (中国共产党)and one of the founders of the Communist Youth League of China (中国共青团).
At only 23 years old, Zhang was the first person to present the Chinese communist movement on a global stage. He met Vladimir Lenin (列宁) and worked as a translator for many foreign delegates(代表).Zhang was long devoted to his communist ideals. His birth name was Zhang Zengrang, but he changed his given name into Tailei, which means "great thunder". He said, "I want to become thunder to break up the 'old world' (愿化作震碎旧世界的惊雷)."
While Zhang was getting support from the international communist movement, another pioneer was digging deep local roots.Deng Zhongxia (1894-1933) was another early leader of the Communist Youth League of China. In his early twenties, about to graduate from Peking University, he was offered a job with the government. He refused it,saying, "I don't want have a position as an officer. just want to serve the people in my own way."
A man of action, Deng made speeches on streets and public squares. He went to rural areas and factories, trying to boost(宣扬) patriotism (爱国情怀) among local youth. He also tried to teach about Marxism and communism(马克思和共产主义). He even learned different dialects to better communicate with locals.
As promising(有希望的) youth themselves, both Zhang and Deng devoted their lives to awakening as many young people as possible during a hard time for the Chinese people.

    your sadness may be better.
University of Melbourne researchers said that avoiding being sad could be h 88 for sufferers of the blues.
Dr Brock Bastian, a psychologist behind the study, said: 'The more happy the country, the w 89 the depression.'
Rather than being the by-product of a life well-lived, feeling happy has become
a goal i 90 itself. This emphasizes(强调) the message that we should aim to improve our positive emotions and a 91 the negative ones. Society needs to change i 92 attitude on depression, Dr Bastian hinted(示意).He added that people have become so used to not showing signs of weakness as social media being used to celebrate achievements.
For the study p 93 in the journal(期刊) Depression and Anxiety, the researchers tested 112 depressed p 94 . Each volunteer was asked to test their levels of the blues and how m 95 stress they faced to be happy. They were followed over a period of one month.

    听第一篇短文,回答第13-15题,请根据短文内容,选择正确答案,完成信息记录表。
Electronic vehicles have been around for more than a hundred years. More than three million all-electric cars and trucks are now on the road worldwide.
Most cars run on gasoline. Burning gasoline produces greenhouse gases. Electric vehicles don't burn gasoline. Instead, strong batteries run their electric engines. So they don't directly produce greenhouse gases.
One of the problems for electric vehicles is their limited range. This is how far they can travel before their batteries need another charge. But now their range isimproving.
Some new electric vehicles can travel almost three times as far as older ones. Another problem is finding a place to recharge the batteries. But the number of charging stations is going up as well.
    听第二篇短文,回答第16-20小题。
Smartphones and e-readers have become more common in recent years. Some people worry the days of paper books will be gone. But surveys show that traditional books are still popular among readers.
Researchers found that in Britain, sales of e-books are falling while sales of paper books are rising. More surprisingly, it's young people who are buying paper books. Another survey of some university students showed 92 percent of them preferred paper books.
It's true that paper books bring a very different reading experience. Some students said they liked the smell of paper books. Other students said they enjoyed seeing it on the bookshelf.
Research has shown that readers remember more information reading from paper books than e-books. People more easily end up with headaches or pains in eyes while reading e-books.
It seems that paper books, which have been in production since the 15th century, still have an attraction.

    Life on Mars
In the future, our planet will be more and more crowded and polluted. Maybe we can live on Mars. Here is a guide to living on Mars.
We can travel to Mars in spacecraft which travel at the speed of light. With the development of science, plants can produce food, oxygen and water on Mars. The gravity on Mars is only three-eighths of that on the Earth, so we should wear special boots to make ourselves heavier. People have more space and time to relax. Life is really good in many ways. But there are also some disadvantages. For example, the food will not be very tasty, and the journey to Mars will probably be very uncomfortable.
