As we walk the “path of life”, we may sometimes wish to be alone with our own thoughts, for quiet moments of reflection (反省) can lead to personal improvement. However, when we want to be alone, we must be careful that we do not always jump into our own world. Social life is also important to all of us.
As we live in social groups, there are many benefits of friendship that we can enjoy. Generally speaking, close friendships have three “fruits”: they may comfort the heart, advise the head and help us achieve the goals we set for ourselves. Through friendship, we can become happier, wiser and more satisfied humans.
The first fruit of friendship is the peace that comes from sharing with friends our joy, sadness, success and failure. Here, friendship has a double advantage — happiness takes on a greater meaning and a trouble shared becomes a trouble halved! Naturally, this kind of openness results from a close friendship. We know that our friends will both respect our feelings and treasure these moments of closeness.
The second fruit of friendship is the better understanding and judgement (评判) that may be achieved through conversations with well-meaning and wise friends. We often find it easier to recognize other people’s weaknesses than our own. As a result, if we are guided only by our own feelings, our judgements might be one-sided. On the other hand, our friends are better able to offer advice on important decisions that we all have to make. This helps make our thoughts clearer and brings us a more thorough (彻底的) understanding of our problems .
The third fruit of friendship is the help that a friend may offer in many different ways. Sometimes a friend is even known as our “second self”. There are so many things in life that can only be achieved with the help of friends. Friends may have many different ideas and skills.
Finally, it should be pointed out that enjoying the company of a crowd is not the same as being with friends. Friends should be carefully chosen and relationships carefully developed. In this way, we can better walk the “path of life” with the comfort, advice and help from our trusted friends.
54. According to the passage, close friendships have a lot of “fruits” EXCEPT ________.
A. making our hearts peaceful B. achieving our goals with friends’ help
C. guiding our own feelings easily D. understanding our problems better
55. We can achieve better understanding by talking with wise friends because ________.

B. our judgements won’t be one-sided if we are guided only by our feelings

D. it gives us a chance to completely understand our friends’ problems
56. Which shows the best structure of the passage?
A. B.
C. D.
57. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Walking the Path of Life B. Understanding of Friendship
C. Advice on Making Friends D. Improvements of Social Life

To save endangered arctic wolves (北极狼), the Beijing-based Sinogene Biotechnology Company cooperated with Harbin Polarland on cloning (克隆) the arctic wolf. As a result, after two years of hard efforts, the arctic wolf was cloned successfully. It is the first case of its kind in the world.
Born on June 10, 2022, the wolf, named Maya, is energetic and in very good health. Her donor (供体) cell came from a wild female arctic wolf from Canada. However, her oocyte (卵母细胞) was from a female dog, and her surrogate mother (代孕母体) was a beagle. The scientist chose a dog as Maya’s surrogate because they are similar in genes (基因), and it’s more easily to succeed through cloning technology.
“This is our new try and it has been a development in protecting and producing wild and endangered animals. The birth of Maya is an event for the development of cloning technology and is of great value to biodiversity (生物多样性), the protection of wildlife, and the restoration (恢复) of endangered animals in the world,” Mi Jidong, the company’s general manager, said.
Cloning technology is a breeding method different from natural reproduction (繁殖). Some gave opinions about the cloned arctic wolf. Sun Quanhui, a scientist from the World Animal Protection organization, said that cloning technology is still in the exploratory stage of research, and there are many technical and ethical (伦理) problems that need to be treated properly. Sun believed cloning should be considered only for endangered wild animals whose species are extinct, or whose captive populations (圈养种群) are very limited.
Maya now lives with her surrogate mother in a lab, and later she will be sent to the Harbin Polarland and displayed to the public. Maya would live by herself in the park at first because she may not be able to fit for original arctic wolf groups. However, it is reported that the technology of cloning arctic wolves has gained strong value in its application, and another male cloned arctic wolf will come into this world in the near future.
58. Which of the following is TRUE about Maya according to the passage?
A. She was born in Canada.
B. She is in good condition.
C. She is the first cloned animal in China.
D. She shares similar living habits with dogs.

A. The development of cloning technology.
B. The difficulties of maintaining biodiversity.
C. Scientists’ efforts to protect endangered animals.
D. The importance of the birth of the cloned arctic wolf.
60. What is Sun Quanhui’s idea towards cloning technology?
A. Careful. B. Confident. C. Proud. D. Improper.
61. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Maya was trained to live with wolf groups in the lab.
B. Another male arctic wolf is expected to be born soon.
C. Maya is popular with many visitors to the Harbin Polarland.
D. Cloning technology will be used in the protection of the animal.

七、阅读与回答问题 (本题共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
请认真阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
The world’s animal populations (种群) have a reduced by more than two thirds since 1970, according to recent research from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
The London group provided information on 32,000 wildlife populations which included more than 5,000 species. The researchers (研究人员) found that group sizes had gone down by 69 percent in average (平均). They said the loss of forests, human development of the environment, pollution, and climate change were great causes of the loss. Land-use change is still the most dangerous to wildlife. However, the researchers added, “If we cannot limit warming to 1.5℃, climate change was likely to become the main cause of biodiversity loss in the coming years.
Wildlife populations in Latin American and the Caribbean Sea area were greatly influenced. The study showed a 94 percent drop in those areas in over 50 years. Wildlife populations in river and lake habitats (栖息地) went down the most. Freshwater populations have gone down by an average of 83 percent since 1970. For example, one population of pink river dolphins in the Amazon River area of Brazil fell by 65 percent between 1994 and 2016.
The findings are a warning of a larger system problem. If the number of one species (物种) goes down, there will be a bad influence on others. The situation will make the ecosystem (生态系统) worse. Humans depend on a proper climate, suitable weather conditions, better farmland and fisheries (渔业) to develop. However, now the problems are serious enough to threaten (威胁) many systems to last normally.
Our future depends on preventing the loss of nature, just as it depends on the climate change. Everyone, from oneself to companies and to governments, should play an important role to improve the situation. If nothing is done, the numbers of the wild animals will be smaller and even none left. And at last, the problem will threaten the ecosystems on which we depend.
91. What is the most dangerous to wildlife populations now?
_____________________________________________________________________________________
92. Why will the ecosystem be worse?

93. What does the writer tell us to do according to the passage?
