Sharon, Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to.
Frank, Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!
David, Aged 19
I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry.
Eddie ,Aged 20
When I started high school I was really nervous too, especially since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.
1. What can we infer from Sharon’s words about high school?
A. Teachers are quite strict. B. Students often stay up at night

A crew(全体成员)of six teenage girls completed a nine-day sailing trip in the US recently, after having seasickness and strong winds.
For the past three years, the Sea Cadet teenagers who set sail were all male. Roger Noakes, who captained(担任队长)the boat, said this was the first time he’d taken out an all-female crew.
The girls asked for an all-girls trip in August this year. The crew set sail along with three adults, Noakes and two Sea Cadet representatives. The original plan was for the girls to sail 24 hours a day in rotating shifts(轮流换班)along the coast and then return. Things turned out differently, however. “The first night was difficult because the wind was really hard. The waves were going up and down,” said Abby Fairchild,16. “Everybody got seasick.” Noakes gave the girls the choice of just sailing in the bay and not going into open water. “But they decided they were going.”
The teenagers then sailed a long way overnight and slept in shifts. “We’ve learned everything from controlling the boat to putting up the sails while we have rough seas,” said 15-year-old Olivia Wilcox.
The teenagers stopped on land in Massachusetts. They didn’t make it to their original destination(目的地) in Maine, where they were supposed to have a celebratory dinner, due to the weather and winds. They said they weren’t disappointed, however, as they’d learned a lot. “They learned about boating, and above all, they built confidence and character,” said Noakes.

There were smiling children all the way. Clearly they knew at what time the train passed their homes and they made it their business to stand along the railway, wave to complete strangers and cheer them up as they rushed towards Penang. Often whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on the trains were their favorite relatives. This is the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved.
I had always traveled to Malaysia by plane or car, so this was the first time I was on a train. I did not particularly relish the long train journey and had brought along a dozen magazines to read and reread. I looked about the train. There was not one familiar face. I sighed and sat down to read my Economics.
It was not long before the train was across the Causeway and in Malaysia. Johore Baru was just another city like Singapore, so I was tired of looking at the crowds of people as they hurried past. As we went beyond the city, I watched the straight rows of rubber trees and miles and miles of green. Then the first village came into sight. Immediately I came alive; I decided to wave back.
From then on my journey became interesting. I threw my magazines into the waste basket and decided to join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me. Even the trees were smiling. I stared at everything as if I was looking at it for the first time.
The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry. I looked at my watch and was surprised that it was 3:00 pm. Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth. I looked at the people all around me. They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile, I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug. I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weather-beaten face warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car. I looked forward to the return journey.
8. The author expected the train trip to be________ .
A. adventurous B. pleasant C. exciting D. dull
9. What did the author remember most fondly of her train trip?
A. The simple lunch served on the train. B. The mountains along the way.
C. The crowds of people in the streets. D. The friendly country people.
10. Which of the following words can best take the place of the word “relish” in the second paragraph?
A. Choose. B. Prepare for. C. Enjoy. D. Carry on.
11. What can we learn from the story?
A. Comfort in traveling by train. B. Smiles brighten people up.
C. Reading gives people delight. D. Pleasure of living in the country.
D 9. D 10. C 11. B

Imagine a cat that does not need someone to clean up after it keeps an older people company and helps them remember to take their medicine. That is the shared dream of the toy maker Hasbro and scientists at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The researchers received a $ 3-million-dollar from the National Science Foundation for a special project. They want to find ways to add artificial intelligence, or AI, to Hasbro’s “Joy for All” robotic cat.
The cat has already been for sale for two years. Though priced at over 1,000 dollars, it sold quite well. It was meant to act as a “companion”(陪伴) for older people. Now the project is aimed at developing additional abilities for the cat. Researchers are working to decide which activities older adults may need the most. They hope to make the cat perform a small number of activities very well. Such activities include finding lost objects and reminding the older people to take medicine or visit their doctor. They also want to keep the cost down to just a few hundred dollars.
It is an idea that has appealed (有吸引力) to Jeanne Elliott. Her 93-year-old mother Mary Derr lives with her in South Kingstown. Derr has dementia (痴呆). The Joy for All cat that Elliot bought this year has become a true companion for Derr. The cat stays with Derr and keeps her relaxed while Elliott is at work. Elliot said a robotic cat that helps her mother to remember to take her medicine and be careful when she walks would be greater.
The researchers are trying to learn how the improved cats will complete helpful activities and how they will communicate. They say that they do not want a talking cat, however. Instead they are trying to design a cat that can move its head in a special way to successfully communicate its message. In the end, they hope to create an exchange between the human and the cat in which the human feels the cat needs them. By doing so, the researchers hope they can even help prevent feelings of loneliness and sadness among elderly people.
12. What’s the purpose of the project?
A. To reduce the pain of the elderly.
B. To increase the sales of a medicine.
C. To help make the robotic cat smarter.
D. To invent a robotic cat for the elderly.
13. What can we know about the cat?
A. It will be on sale in two years.
B. It may be cheaper in the future.
C. Its abilities will be made simpler for the elderly.
D. It can tell the activities that older adults need the most.
14. What does the example in Paragraph 3 show?
A. The cat gives much help to the elderly.
B. The cat works well to talk with the patient.
C. The cat can make the dementia patient less painful.
D. The cat should be designed to satisfy patients’ need.
15. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Each family can afford such a cat in the future.
B. A talking cat is quite popular among the elderly.
C. Feelings of sadness among the elderly are unavoidable.
D. The feeling of being needed is important to the elderly.
C 13. B 14. A 15. D

推理判断题的题干特点:推断隐含意义的题干中常含infer(推断),suggest(暗示),imply(暗示),indicate(暗示),conclude(推断,得出结论)等词语。 We can know from the passage that...; We can infer from the (first/last) passage that... ;The passage/author implies/suggests that ...;It can be concluded from the passage that ... ;The underlined sentence indicates that ...

Dear Editor,
I am so sorry to learn the news about killing Siberian tigers. It’s time to take action to avoid their dying out.
It’s said that the population of Siberian tigers is getting smaller continuously. There are two main reasons. The first reason is that some people want their skins and bones to earn money. Secondly, too many trees have been cut down, which has destroyed the places they live.
Let’s protect their habitat and ask for laws to punish the tiger hunters.

On a winter Sunday good for skiing, Sue arrived at their holiday chalet (棚屋) with joy. Sue’s skis were sticking out behind her. Mark, another skier, tripped over Sue’s skis. Before Sue could apologize, Mike shouted, “Your skis are in the way. You’ve got big smelly feet!” In view of his attitude, Sue ignored him. Mark lost face and was more angry.
The ski lift took all the skiers to the top of the mountain. The hard snow of the piste (滑雪道) was below them. Then Sue skied down the mountain. As a good skier, she didn’t fall over. Mark, along with his good friend David, was watching her with envy and anger. They were also good skiers but they didn’t know Sue very well. “She’s good,” David said. “But we’re better,” Mark responded with dissatisfaction.
The young people skied all day. They enjoyed themselves and forgot everything. On Wednesday morning, the young people were waiting for the ski lift when their teacher announced a ski race. The race would be arranged for the last day of the holiday on a long and difficult ten-kilometer piste. Everybody wanted to win! They went up the mountain, put on their skis and skied down the piste, practicing for the race. Sue skied fast, so did Mark and David. Obviously, these three became powerful opponents.
It was Saturday and the race was going to be held in the afternoon. Sue was hungry and left her skis at the side of a café. She sat down and ordered lunch. Later, David and Mark came in. They also headed to the side to put their skis there. Mark noticed Sue’s skis and aimed a kick angrily at them. Then he found a screw (螺丝) on Sue’s ski was loose, unsure whether it was caused by the force or it was like that originally. “Sue’s skis won’t work. We’re sure to win,” Mark said and pointed. They smiled knowingly at each other.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Finally came the time of the race and everyone was excited.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Maybe feeling guilty or nervous, Mark made a mistake and fell down when Sue approached him.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1:
Finally came the time of the race and everyone was excited. With the referee saying “Get set, go”, all skiers raced down. Unsurprisingly, Sue fell over seconds later. Noticing the loose screw, she slid across the snow and off the piste. During this period, David and Mark skied past. Mark shouted to David, “We’re going to win.” Luckily, it was not a tough problem for Sue. She quickly tightened the screw, made an examination of the rest and skied again. Minutes later, she was ahead of most competitors. Now, the only one before her was Mark, whom she was determined to beat.
Paragraph 2:
Maybe feeling guilty or nervous, Mark made a mistake and fell down when Sue approached him. Seeing Mark struggled to stand up, Sue stopped and gave him a pull. Much astonished, Mark murmured, “Thank you.” Sue left with a wave of the hand. Two players passed just the moment. Sue sped up with all her strength. Soon she crossed the finish line first to thunderous applause. “Congratulations!” Mark came to Sue. “I should apologize for my words and behavior.” Knowing what had happened, Sue was a little angry, but anyway, it was in the past, “Never mind. I’ve also learned the lesson that examining my skis is necessary,” Sue joked. “And maybe we could ski together later.” “Totally agree!”
