    The First Period

    Teaching  Aims

    1.Knowledge Objects

    (1)Key vocabulary: rainy, windy, cloudy, snowy, weather, Boston, Moscow

    (2)Target languages:

    How's the weather in Beijing?

     (= What's the weather like in Beijing?)

    It's sunny.

    (3) Word-making: rain     rainy, wind     windy, cloud 

    cloudy, snow     snowy, sun       sunny

    2.Ability Objects

    To train students ability of listening and speaking. Students can talk about the weather.

    3.Emotion Objects

    We should try to protect the environment to improve the weather, save water, plant trees, etc.

    Improving the Students ability of communicating with each other about the weather.

     Step Revision

    1. Show some pictures and ask questions: What are they doing? What's she/ he doing?

    2. Students answer the teacher's questions to revise the present continuous tense.

    Step Presentation

    1. For the last question: What is she doing? (She’s walking in the rain.) How’s the weather? The teacher helps Students answer to present the new words: weather. Then teach Students to read more .

    2. Students look at the pictures and answer.

    3. Students look, follow the teacher and understand.      

        Step Presentation and learning Teachers' activities

    1. Show some weather signs. Then ask students "Do you know them? Please discuss and answer."

    2. Show the weather words and teach students to read.

    3.The teacher shows the weather words including n. and adj. Ask Students to find out the rules.

    4. Students discuss in groups, say out their ideas. (Students can say them in Chinese)

    5. Students read after the teacher and understand.

    6.Students find the rules of word -making by themselves.

    1. The teacher says "If we want to know about the weather, how do we ask?" to present the target languages" How's the weather? =What's the weather like?" Then show some pictures to practice (ask and answer)

    2. Students listen carefully, understand and learn. Then answer the teacher's questions and practice in pairs.

    Leaning strategies

    Students use what they learned to practice the target languages. Then they can talk about their real life.

    Step Filling and listening

    1. Ask Students to look at 1a of their book and match the words with the pictures.

    2.Introduce the cities in the world. .Play the tape and Students finish1b to fill in the boxes with the cities.

    Students match, listen and fill.

    Step Pair-work

    1. Show some pictures of some cities with weather signs. Ask "How's the weather in ...? or What's the weather like in...?"

    2. Students' activities

    3. Students answer the teacher's questions and then ask and answer in groups , in pairs.

    A: How’s the weather like in Beijing/ …?

    B: It’s rainy/ sunny/…

    Leaning strategies

    This part is to make students join the class more actively to understand the target languages better.

    Step Group work (make conversations)

    Suppose you’re going for vacation, you’re your friends to ask the weather there.

    Students  listen to the teacher how to call and make conversations in groups.

    A: Hello! May I speak to …?

    B: This is …speaking.

    A: how’s the weather in …?

    B: It’s ….

    A: What are you doing?

    B: I’m ….

    A: Thanks! Bye!

    B: Bye!

    Step Summary

    1.The teacher asks the Students to summarize what they learn in this period including words, target languages and word-making.

    2.Students discuss in groups and then say out their results.

    3.Leaning strategies

    This step is to learn to co-operate and summarize by themselves.

    Step I  Emotion education

    Ask Students to watch some pictures. Ask Students to try their best to do something for our earth, even very tiny things.

    Students watch and get something from it. Then they will have some good habits.

    Learn: The weather is becoming worse and worse in the world..  We should protect the earth by doing things around us. Save water, plant trees and so on. 

    Homework: Make a conversation about the weather somewhere in pairs.
