Fiona McIntyre is a taxi driver in London. She tells us about her work and some of her experiences.
Q: When did you start?
I’ve been a taxi driver for about five years. Before that I was a bus driver in London, and I enjoyed it, but I wanted more freedom so I changed and started driving my taxi.
Q: Have you ever had any famous passengers?
Oh yes. I’ve had film stars, politicians, you know, lots of famous people. About a year ago, a really famous actor got in my taxi. I took him to the airport. We were stuck on the way and it took a long time to get there, so he missed his plane and failed to meet his fans. It wasn’t my mistake but when he got out of the taxi, he shouted at me angrily! I said to him, ‘Next time, take a bus!”
Q: Have passengers ever left anything in your taxi?
Oh yes! People have left all kinds of things—a suitcase, a hat, mobile phones, of course, even a dog once! Years ago, a woman left a pair of shoes on the seat. And one time a passenger let his teeth here! Not real teeth, of course—false teeth.
And people have asked me to do some strange jobs. Once a doctor stopped me outside a hospital and asked me to take a skeleton to another hospital. Professors usually use skeletons to teach medical students, you know. And I did. But I asked him to pay first—the skeleton couldn’t pay after all!
Q: What do you think is the worst part of your job?
Good question. I’ve always enjoyed being a taxi driver and I don’t want to change. But of course, sometimes, it’s not great. I don’t like driving around without a passenger, but it’s better than just waiting at the airport or at a railway station. I think that’s the worst part—waiting.
51.The famous actor missed his plane because ________.
A.Fiona didn’t drive well B.Fiona wasn’t very polite
C.there were too many fans D.there was too much traffic
52.The underlined (划线的) word “him” in Fiona’s answer to the third question refers to ________.
A.the skeleton B.the doctor C.the professor D.the student
53.According to the interview, which of the following is NOT TRUE?
A.Fiona has worked as a taxi driver since five years ago.
B.Sometimes passengers may leave their pets in Fiona’s taxi.
C.Fiona prefers just waiting to driving around without a passenger.
D.Fiona doesn’t think that the famous actor was polite.

After Emily Dickinson died of disease on May 15th 1886, her poetic achievement was accepted by readers. Some of her works appeared in 1890, but it was not until Thomas H. Johnson published all her poetry in 1995 that made her works famous. He published 1,775 of her poems in 1955 in a collection named The Poems of Emily Dickinson.
Emily was born in America in 1830. Her family was well known in the community for their contribution to politics and education. Emily lived most of her life with her grandfather who was famous for having founded Amberst Academy in 1814 and later Amherst College in 1821.
Emily led a reclusive (隐居的) life, but her childhood was a happy one. She had the special right of being educated at some of the most outstanding women schools in her time and devoted herself to reading all kinds of books.
It was during her college years that Emily started writing. Some of her poems were published with the help of her friends. However, when she tried having her poems published for the first time, she failed and her poems were refused by a magazine. This led Emily to believe that the public would never care for her works, and then she never tried to have any of her works published again. After the Civil War, Emily left from society and had little contact outside of Amherst.
Without doubt, Emily’ works have greatly influenced and continue to influence modem society. None of her works rhymed, and she used unusual comparisons (对比) when referring to events and situations. This nontraditional method of writing has made her one of the most creative poets of the 19th century.
54.What did Emily do during her childhood?
A.She studied in good schools.
B.She passed her poems to magazines.
C.She spent much time on politics and education.
D.She practiced writing with the help of her friends.
55.What do we know about Emily’ poems?

B.They let modern naturalists to study more.
C.They make much difference to modern society.
D.They rhyme well and include many comparisons.
56.In what order did these events take place in Emily Dickinson’ life?

Many Chinese people wonder what presents to get for their moms on Mother’s Day, but not many know Mother’s Day is actually a festival from overseas. Mother’s Day originated(起源)in America during the early 20th century. The festival spread to China as early as the 1980s and was widely accepted.
Why did a foreign festival become popular in China? In fact, Chinese traditional culture has always encouraged filial devotion(孝道)to parents. There are many stories which show filial respect in ancient China. For example, the story of Taste Liquid(液体的Medicine for Mother tells us the filial virtue(美德)of Emperor Wen of the Western Han dynasty. His mother had been sick for three years, He often stayed up by her bedside and cared for her day and night. He tasted the liquid medicine first before she drank it. Children in China are brought up with the education of filial devotion.
On special days, people often uses roses or forget-me-nots to express love, carnations are considered as the perfect flowers for mothers around the world, but few know that China has its own flower for mothers—the tiger lily.
Love for mothers can have different ways of expression. What matters most is love, not the festival itself. What mothers truly want is perhaps just a simple expression of love not the festival itself. What mothers truly want is perhaps just a simple expression of love from their children.

Ⅸ.任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,按要求完成下列各题。
Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. That is why some friendships don’t last very long. To have a friend, you must learn to be one. You must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest, be generous (慷慨的), be understanding.
Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you don’t tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven’t been honest, you may lose your friend.
Generosity means sharing and making a friendship grow. You don’t have to give your lunch money or your clothes, of course. Instead you have to learn how to share things you enjoy, like your hobbies and your interests. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them you help your friend know you better.
Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem is helpful. Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend, you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend’s place so you can understand the problem better.
No two friendships are ever exactly alike. But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friends, you must follow them.
