Testing fr eDNA (“envirnmental” DNA) isn’t a new idea, but mst f the time, scientists lk fr eDNA in water. DNA in the air is usually s small that it wuld take a micrscpe t see it. The scientists didn’t have high hpes fr their experiment.
Neither team knew that the ther grup was wrking n a similar experiment. One cllected samples frm different lcatins at Denmark’s Cpenhagen Z, and the ther at Hamertn Z Park in the UK. The scientists used slightly different methds t cllect their samples. But basically, bth teams used vacuums (真空装置) and fans t cllect extremely tiny bits f DNA nt very high quality filters (过滤器).
In the labratry, they gt the DNA frm the filters and made cpies f it t study. By cmparing their samples with examples f DNA frm different animals, the scientists were able t identify many different animals at the zs.
