A fourth-grade star athlete has made headlines for keeping up with high schoolers. However, it’s not for the honor. The selfless student is a guide runner for a blind, autistic (患自闭症的) teen who needs a helping hand on the cross-country track.
Rebel Hays, 11, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, stepped up as a guide runner for a ninth-grader, Paul Scott, when West Fork High School put out a call for volunteers. Paul, their student, wanted to compete.
As they ran together, the pair became good friends. “Paul and Rebel’s story is so much more than running,” said Rebel’s mother, LouAnn. “Paul doesn’t have many friends, so Rebel doesn’t just guide him at races. They also spend time together,” she said, telling jokes. “Paul is grateful for his young guide’s direction.” “Rebel directs me whether there’s a ditch (沟) or there’re hills.” Paul said. “He encourages me to run faster.”
In honor of their partnership, West Fork High School wrote a post on Facebook. Posting on Oct. 6, 2021, after a 5K race at Chile Pepper where the boys achieved a personal record of 21 minutes, school representatives (代表) explained, “Rebel Hays has been helping Paul all season long. He is a promising runner, but even more importantly, he has a huge heart! Thank you, Rebel! Thank you a lot!”
According to MileSplit Arkansas, Paul said that his goal this year was to break 21 minutes; however, they missed it at Chile Pepper but achieved it at Van Buren Pointer Classic, finishing with a time of 20: 59: 44. With help and direction from Rebel, Paul finished 59th out of 135 runners in the 3A boys race at the state Meet in Hot Springs in early November. Paul still has one more year of eligibility (资格) for cross-country and has now set a new goal of under 20 minutes.

Every year around August, millions of teens take their parents to stores to buy new clothes for the start of the school year. Not every parent can afford this, and some teens are forced to go to school in the same clothes they wore last year. The obvious differences in clothes cause differences among students. There is a simple solution to this problem: school uniforms (校服).
I know from personal experience and surveys that wearing uniforms creates a sense of equality among peers (同龄人间的平等).
From sixth grade until I graduated from high school, I attended a school that required students to wear uniforms. The uniform was very simple: dark brown shoes, green-brown pants, and a white shirt. The uniform left little room for any kind of self-expression, especially through clothes.
However, I learned how to stand out by expressing myself through my personality, art, and sports. I did not know I could draw until the sixth grade. I also would never have learned of my musical abilities if it were not for my desire to find ways to express myself. Uniforms taught me that I was myself, except what I wore.
Uniforms also help to a much safer learning environment. I remember a particular event that happened in my junior year of high school. A man ran away from prison and wanted to hide in the gym of our school. Luckily, cameras all over the school quickly found the stranger before any danger could ever happen as he was out of place. School officials kept the man locked inside our gym until the police came to take him back to prison.
Uniforms help provide a better educational experience for all students no matter what race, culture, or economic class (经济阶层). In closing, wearing uniforms is good for both schools and students.
8. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By explaining a basic rule.
B By challenging others’ views.
C. By sharing his parents’ experience.
D. By describing a common problem.
9. Which of the following might the author agree with?
A. Uniforms should be more morden.
B. Uniforms are popular with students.
C Uniforms can help shape better students.
D. Uniforms are bad for self-development.
10. What do the underlined words “out of place” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Running fast. B. Standing straight.
C. Dressing differently. D. Breathing heavily.
11. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To record his high school life.
B. To introduce high school uniforms.
C. To ask students to like what they wear.
D. To show his favorable view towards uniforms.

“Running is so natural—it’s something we’ve been doing for thousands of years, and it’s something very enjoyable.” The words of Tao Geoghegan Hart, a professional (专业的) cyclist. As an ambassador (大使) for The Daily Mile, a movement that calls for one simple thing—15 minutes of daily exercise, where children run, walk, jog or skip one mile—he encourages any form of exercise and movement.
Geoghegan Hart sees schools as key to setting young people up for life with good sporting habits. “When you’re school age, sport can encourage you and take hold of you and change you more than at any other age,” he explains. “Yes, we all go on journeys with sport, but when you look back at those journeys, they start with your childhood.”
One big attraction of taking part in The Daily Mile is that it is a cost-free way in which schools can encourage regular exercise. Geoghegan Hart says he hopes The Daily Mile will encourage children to try and be more active in the future. “Something as simple as The Daily Mile can lead to much more,” he says.
At Cowley Hill Primary School, head teacher Louise Thomas says that they’ve found the movement has had a great positive influence upon the lives of their learners. Charlie Honour, year-5 teacher and PE subject leader at St Peter’s School, says that although the activity takes place out on the field, it has classroom benefits (效益,受益), too. “I find that the children are more willing to complete class work,” says Honour. “I think it is because they know they will soon be outside and getting some fresh air.”
12. What can be learned about The Daily Mile from paragraph 1?
A. It is a sports club. B. It is a cycling race.
C. It is a call for exercise. D. It is a plan for running tests.
13. Why does Geoghegan Hart want children for The Daily Mile?
A. They are easily encouraged.
B. They are more likely to benefit.
C. They have more time for sports.
D. They have teachers to coach them.
14. What does Geoghegan Hart expect of The Daily Mile?
A. It’ll attract more schools to it.
B. It’ll start more similar projects.
C. It’ll get more support from the government.
D. It’ll push children to lead a more active life.
15. What do the two teachers’ words show about The Daily Mile?
A. Its influence on students.
B. Its influence on teachers.
C. Its differences among schools.
D. Its differences among players.

Wang Peng is a kind and intelligent 16-year-old boy. His family enjoyed traveling together, and one day they planned a trip to Hainan, as they loved learning about unique cultures.
They arrived at the airport hours in advance. To pass the time, Wang Peng’s parents went to the shops while the boy sat nearby quietly waiting, until he realized the girl next to him was crying. “Hi, Sister, Are you okay?” the boy asked. At first, the girl did not answer. “Where are you about to fly?” he asked. Finally, the girl spoke up. “I’m supposed to fly back home to Hainan. I promised my mother that I would come home for her 60th birthday, but I lost my plane ticket,” the girl said. “I’d been saving up for this ticket for such a long time. I can’t afford another ticket now.” she said.
Wang Peng felt really sorry for the girl. Soon he saw his parents returning from the shops. Quickly, he stood up and, before his parents could come closer, he leaned toward the girl and said, “Check under your seat. Isn’t that a ticket? Maybe you can ask the ground staff to change it to your name.”
The girl, Li Mei, was at first confused. But when Wang Peng left, she checked under her seat and saw a ticket lying there. It wasn’t hers, but she was hopeless, so she childishly thought she could do as Wang Peng told her.
She handed the ticket to the woman at the counter (柜台) and as she waited, she saw Wang Peng’s father shouting at Wang Peng, “How could you be so careless and lose your ticket?”
At that moment, Li Mei realized whose ticket it was under her seat. But just as she did, the woman at the counter spoke to her. “Excuse me, girl. I believe this is that boy’s missing ticket.” She pointed to Wang Peng.
Upon overhearing what the woman said, Wang Peng’s father turned toward Li Mei and shouted, “You’re a thief? Why do you have my son’s ticket? I’m calling the police!”

【46题答案】
【答案】Dear Peter,
I’m sorry to hear that you are suffering from obesity nowadays. Here are some suggestions in losing weight for you.
I sincerely understand what you are going through. I have met a lot of people who are overweight and hate doing any sports. Instead, they like sitting on the sofa watching TV and eating snacks at the same time, which cause them to put on a lot of weight. Wherever they go, they are laughed at.
You can start to run in the playground for at least half an hour every day. Also, eating more fruit and vegetables and staying away from snacks are the important things you should do from your mouth. If you can insist on making changes little by little, you will be surely full of confidence and energy. You know that it is exercising along with a healthy diet that makes what you will be. I hope what I referred to above can be useful to you. You are sure to make it! Come on!
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua

“Dad, wait!” Wang Peng stepped in before things could get worse. Li Mei was embarrassed standing there. Wang Peng explained to his father what had happened. At last he learned that the girl could not go back to Hainan to attend her mother’s 60th birthday because she lost her ticket and could not afford another one. Wang Peng put his ticket deliberately under the girl’s seat, pretending to remind the girl to change the name of the ticket. She was mistaken by his father for stealing Wang Peng’s ticket. After the misunderstanding was cleared, Wang Peng’s father apologized to Li Mei and put forward to buying one ticket for her.
Li Mei couldn’t believe she’d been given a second chance to go home. With tears in her eyes, she thanked the Wang Peng’s family. She also asked for Wang Peng’s contact information so that she could keep in touch with him. Looking at Li Mei, Wang Peng felt extremely pleased.
