The muscular system f the bdy is cmpsed f a large number f units knwn as muscles, which fill ut tgether the flesh f the bdy. There are three types f muscles in the bdy. They are striated muscles, smth muscles and cardiac muscle.
Striated muscles, which are als called vluntary r skeletal muscles, are the muscle fibers that mve all bnes, the face and eyes. Peple can cntrl the activity f this type f muscles cnsciusly.
Smth muscles, which are als knwn as invluntary r visceral muscles, are thse muscle fibers which can mve ur internal rgans, such as the digestive tract, bld vessels and secretry ducts leading frm glands. Peple can’t cntrl these muscles cnsciusly.
Cardiac muscle appears striated, but it acts like smth muscle. Peple can’t cntrl its mvement cnsciusly.
The muscles which mve the bnes f ur bdy are called skeletal (striated) muscles. And when a muscle cntracts, ne f the bnes jins tgether with thers and remains firmly, the ther muscles keep in its place as a result.
All muscles can shrten r cntract, and all mvements f any part f the bdy are prduced by the cntractin f grups f muscles. Fr a muscle can shw its functin f prducing mvement, it is attached at bth its extremities, and these attachments are usually t bnes, when the muscle cntracts, the mvement at a jint ccurs. The attachment f a muscle t a bne means a fibrus structure knwn as a tendn. Smetimes the tendn is s shrt that the muscle appears t be directly attached t the bne, but mre ften it is a definite crd-like r band-like structure.
As a muscle is flat and sheet-like, its tendn is likewise flattened and sheet-like; such a tendn is termed an apneursis.
