(2021·吉林)Has your mother or grandmother ever made embroidered(刺绣的)clothes for you? In the past, Chinese people often embroidered on hats, shoes and dresses to show the beauty of nature or the best wishes to others. Some girls would even embroider on a sachet(香囊)as a gift for their lovers.
Shu embroidery comes from Sichuan. It is said that Shu embroidery is the oldest kind of embroidery in China. People began to make it during the Han Dynasty(206 BC—220 AD). They sold it to other countries such as ancient Rome.

(2020·吉林)How do you feel about your looks? Is it important to have a beautiful face? Are there other things that can make a person special? The way you look is special. Do you know what I mean by that? We all look a little different. Some of us are tall. Some of us are fat. The point is, all of us have our own look-our own face.
Sometimes, we might feel bad about looking different. We might feel like we look ugly or strange. But our differences are what make us special.
I recently watched a speech by a man named Robert Hoge. He was born with a strange-looking face. His mother always worried that he would face many difficulties in life. But what Hoge did changed his mother's mind little by little. Strangers would stare at him or even make fun of him. But he didn't care at all. He decided to accept his face and feel confident (自信的) in himself. He has made a decision to live an amazing life.
It's hard when you feel like you don't look "normal" or "perfect". But the truth is, no one is perfect. The important thing to remember is that you are special, no matter what you look like.

(2022·吉林)I’m Lin Yue. In March, 2022, COVID-19 started suddenly in my city. It was so serious that the whole city was locked down. At the very beginning of the lockdown (行动限制), some old people, especially those living alone, had difficulty getting vegetables.
One day, in the community WeChat group, an old man said that he was short of vegetables so I had an idea of setting up a food bank in the community, and my neighbors were also ready to offer help.
To keep social distancing (社交距离), I used a large box as the food bank, and put it in the public area. Neighbors could give away and get some food there. The large box was quickly filled with vegetables, rice and snacks.
One evening, I saw a bag of vegetables with a note saying “These are fresh vegetables. Please take them home if you need.”
In the WeChat group, an old lady who got the vegetables said, “I was so moved by the good-will (善意), but I only took three tomatoes, because I wanted to leave the rest for those people really in need.”

It wasn’t the same as other stones. It was a little bit shining. But it was quite dirty. The boy took the stone home because he wanted to polish it.
His friends felt surprised and they asked, “Why are you polishing that ugly stone?”, but the boy didn’t reply. From then on, when they went out to play, the boy would take the stone with him. He would polish it whenever he had a rest.

(2020·吉林)A new report from a university says 80% of the world's teens don't get enough exercise very day. The report was based on (基于) a research done with about 2 million students aged 11 to 17 around the world. According to the report, activity standards are different in different countries and they are also different between boys and girls. In China, for example, only 20% of the boys are active enough, compared to 11% of the girls.

(2022·吉林) 1 The ear is an important organ (器官). To make people know the importance of our ears, the government set up National Ear Care Day. It falls on March 3rd every year. How much do you know about the ear?
2 There are three parts in our ears — the outer ear, the middle ear and the inner ear. We can see the outer ear clearly. It can collect sound around us. Then the sound goes through the middle ear to the inner ear and finally to our brain.
3 Our ears keep working all the time even when we are sleeping, but our brain just pays no attention to it. Sometimes we may wake up suddenly at midnight. That’s because our brain hears something, although we don’t know what it is.
4 Our ears also help us keep a balance. There are some organs that are full of liquid (液体) with small hairs around them in the inner ear. The liquid and hairs send messages to our brain to make us keep a balance.
5 Our ears even have something to do with tasting food. We may have problems telling tastes if there is something wrong with our ears.
You see, ears can do more than we think, so take good care of our ears from now on.
