The first time I used the TV to distract my daughter, I felt like a bad parent; I convinced
myself I was a “bad” mom—these days I believe the opposite to be true. Screen time makes me a better mom.
Now I know what most of you might be thinking: That's ridiculous. Only crappy( 糟 糕 的 )parents rely on the screen to care for their kids. Then again, experts suggest parents limit media use. And while I do not doubt experts, there are things they fail to consider.
Like most 6-year-olds, my daughter gets worked up and excited easily and watching a cartoon gives her a chance to shut off her mind. And there are other reasons— more selfish reasons. I am a work-from-work mom, and giving her screen time gives me “me” time. I'm able to write while she watches TV. And while this may sound bad, I believe I am helping my daughter realize she should rely on herself. When Mommy works, she gets her own snacks, drinks and toys.
There are other benefits, too. TV has also taught my daughter. Thanks to “super Why”, she knew her alphabet at 2, and thanks to “Sesame Street”, she was able to count to 20 by age 3. And I use the screen as a great incentive. My daughter earns “tablet time” when she completes tasks, e. g. , making her bed earns 15minutes while doing her homework gets her 30.
Of course, I have a few rules. During meals, the TV is off; all programs must be supervised; on weekdays, she is limited to two hours maximum. So remember: It doesn’t matter what our kids watch; it matters what they do, what they say, what they feel and how they act, and only you know what is best for them.
24. What can be learned about the author’s opinion about screen time?
A. It differs from a popular belief.
B. It is welcome by most crappy parents.
C. It fails to take kids into consideration.
D. It is the same with experts.
25. How can screen time be good for kids whose mothers work at home?
A. It gives them topics to discuss with friends.
B. It enables them to keep their spirits up.
C. It helps them become independent.
D. It gives them some continuous time.
26 . How many reasons are given by the author for letting her daughter watch TV in the third paragraph?
A. Two B. Three C. Four D. Five
7. Which of the following might the author agree with ?
A. Nothing can be accomplished without rules.
B. A man is good-for-nothing (无用之人)until he is educated.
C. Science and technology are primary productive forces.
D. Each coin has two sides.
C
China's historic 23-day Chang'e 5 mission has not only obtained precious rock and soil samples from the moon, but has also brought back a group of seeds that traveled the furthest in the nation's agricultural and forestry histories. More than 30 kinds of seeds including that of rice, oats etc., were placed inside the multi-module Chang’e 5 spacecraft and orbited around the moon for about 15 days.
Scientists wished to check what would happen to the seeds after being exposed to extraterrestrial(地外的)forces in lunar orbit and also hoped that they could develop beneficial mutations(突变).This mission offered good opportunities to scientists, which enabled them to deepen their studies on the effect of cosmic rays on the growth and evolution of life on Earth.
Space-based mutation breeding refers to the process of exposing seeds to forces such as microgravity, vacuums and cosmic(宇宙的) radiation during a spaceflight and then sending them back to Earth for further observation and planting. Researchers observe and examine several generations of plants grown from space-bred seeds and investigate their mutations---some are positive and desirable while others are negative. Those with positive mutations will be kept and analyzed, and will be introduced to farmers after their certification and approval.
Space breeding can generate mutations faster and more conveniently than ground-based experiments and can bring about some desirable traits that are otherwise hard to introduce. Compared with natural or conventionally bred types of plants, space-developed versions with positive mutations usually feature higher nutritional content, greater annual yields, shorter growth periods and better resistance to diseases and insect pests.
China conducted its first space breeding experiment in 1987, using a satellite to carry seeds into space. Since then, hundreds of kinds of seeds and seedlings have traveled with dozens of Chinese spaceships. Space breeding has helped to produce more than 200 new types of mutated plants in China that have been approved for large-scale cultivation, ranging from grains to vegetables and fruits. The Chang'e 5 robotic mission returned 1.731 grams of lunar rock and soil to Earth, marking a historic accomplishment 44 years after the last lunar substances were taken back.
28.Why were the seeds placed inside Chang'e 5?
A. To pick out the fittest for mutations. B. To understand extraterrestrial forces
C. To study the intensity (强度)of cosmic rays D. To expose them to a special environment.
29.What do we know about space-based mutation breeding?
A. It is not a time-consuming process B. Mutations develop in a random way
C. It often brings about desirable effects. D. Approval will be granted to mutated plants.
30.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. It is a custom to put seedlings on a spacecraft.
B. China was the first to do a space breeding experiment.
C. It is some time since seeds were last taken into space.
D. Space breeding has brought us commercial benefits
31.What is the best title of the passage?
A. Space-bred Seeds Offer Great Chances
B. Chang'e 5 Returns with a Big Package
C. Plant Mutations Result in a Better Life
D. Seeds from Space Mark a New History
D
Have you ever been on social media and seen your favorite celebrity talking about a product? These promotions might not be totally random, and are actually seen as a vital part of the marketing process. The question is: How do social media influencers “influence”what you buy?
Human desire for status and making friends, combined with our need to belong to a group, makes us receptive to being “socially influenced” Companies often use that desire to have a similar lifestyle to a celebrity we admire to hawk or launch a product. So, what do these promotions actually do?
Firstly, they can be used to build brand awareness. A social media influencer should have a strong understanding of the platform they operate on, and therefore can create engaging content that not only sticks to the brand image, but sparks their followers’ interests in a product they might never have seen before.
Secondly, influencers can improve a company or product's relationship with their customer base. According to InMoment’s 2018 US Retail CX Trends Report on customer loyalty, 77% of buyers have been brand loyal for more than ten years. This is also true of 60% of millennials. A popular celebrity can target key demographics (顾客族群) and talk or blog about a product, which can create an instant and lasting bond with the consumer.
Lastly, influencers can improve customer buying habits with seemingly “unbiased opinions”. We are more likely to respond to “peer recommendation” than traditional ads, meaning the fact that we see an influencer as a ‘friend’ can make us less likely to be doubtful about what we are seeing.
So, the next time you see a celebrity talking about a product, you might want to consider that this could be a carefully crafted marketing strategy designed to target your core needs. If you find yourself examining a product you've seen on social media, you may well have been influenced.
32.Why do companies invite celebrities to launch products?
A.Because celebrities can improve the companies’ public images.
B.Because celebrities want to make more money.
C.Because consumers like to share similarity with celebrities.
D.Because consumers can make friends with celebrities.
33.According to the passage, which strategy is often used by influencers?
A. Setting up operation platforms. B. Sending gifts to customers.
C. Taking advantage of their popularity. D. Recommending products to their friends.
34. What does the underlined word unbiased probably mean in the passage?
A. aggressive B. objective C. subjective D. supportive
35. The passage is mainly about .
A. how social media make ads B. how social media influence our lifestyle
C. how celebrities earn fame D. how social influencers affect our buying
