    What is better fr yu?Exercising in the great utdrs,r signing up fr a gym?T try and find ut,TheGuardian was invited t spend a mnth wrking with fitness and sprts psychlgy experts at Bath University and the Natinal Trust.The cncept was that participants—including me—wuld spend alternate weeks exercising in a gym and n Natinal Trust land.
    The first week was spent n the exercise bikes,rwing machines and treadmills(跑步机) in a gym at Bath Sprts and Leisure Centre.Getting started at the gym was easy.There was a nice cmmunity t.Peple are gently teasing and encuraging each ther.
    On the dwnside,it was hard t ignre the backgrund nise f dance and pp music.And all the machines faced screens shwing music vides,rlling news and sprts channels.Nt a place t get away frm it all.
    S it was a relief in week tw t head fr the hills f Dyrham,a Natinal Trust parkland full f birds and deer.
    Weeks three and fur fllwed the same pattern.The diaries I had kept,questinnaires I had filled in,and heart mnitrs I had wrn,were then analysed by scientists frm Bath University.
    The findings surprise me a bit.The heart mnitrs shwed I had cnsumed a similar amunt f energy whether exercising in the gym r utdrs.But fitness expert Martyn Standage was mst interested in the fact that n the days when my exercise had been dne utside,I used mre energy thrugh the rest f the day.Standage said this fitted with studies that suggest wrking ut in the utdrs leads t a greater feeling f vitality(活力).
    J Bartn,wh specialises in studying utdr exercise,suggested that wrking ut in the fresh air culd be “life-changing”.“Exercising in nature lifts yur md and increases yur self-respect,” she said.
    My verdict?It was mre fun utside but smetimes mre cnvenient t get t the gym.A bit f bth may be the way frward.
