Calculated every year by Global Footprint Network（GFN），Earth Overshoot Day（地球生态超载日）is the day when human has used up all the natural resources—produce,meat,fish,water and wood．This means we use up them ahead of time before the end of the year．

It is just like spending your entire years' money by August and then borrow money from friends,knowing fully well you cannot pay back． GFN says the same thing happens in the case of the earth．"Because we give out more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than our oceans and forests can take in,and we harvest forests more quickly than they can regrow,"he said．

 In a perfect world,we should only spend what we have．This means Earth Overshoot Day would fall on 31 December or perhaps in the following year． Unfortunately,the day has been climbing up quickly since 2014 when it fell on 19 August．In 2015,it was 13 August,and this year, the earliest so far—8 August!

According to GFN,Australia tops the list,with the United States coming in a close second．If the world's population started to live like either of these countries,we would need more resources to meet our needs．

Fortunately,experts say the situation isn't as bad as it sounds． Many countries have already taken measures to reduce carbon emissions（释放）by using wind or solar energy．People can also help by eating less meat, walking, cycling or taking public transportation,as well adopting the three Rs: Reduce,Reuse&Recycle．If we work together,we can help push back Earth Overshoot Day to December 31 or even beyond．

The 90-minute documentary, Amazing China, which is co-produced by China Central Television and China Film Corp, opened in theatres nationwide．

The film focuses on the major achievements the country has made since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012 under Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era．

Speaking about the documentary, Wei Tie, the director, says," The film arouses Chinese pride from deep inside．"

The documentary focuses on key Chinese infrastructure（基础设施）projects in aerospace，high-speed rail，the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the world's largest single-dish telescope FAST． The documentary also informs viewers that seven of the world's 10 biggest sea ports are now in China and that the country now has the longest high-speed rail network in the world．

In the film, Lin Ming, the chief engineer of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project, says," In the past, what kind of projects we took up was decided by what kind of facilities we had． But, nowadays, no matter what kind of projects we are assigned, we develop the technology to complete it．" His voice is calm but his words show the country’s self-confidence． Speaking of the importance of the new documentary for the Chinese, La Peikang, the head of China Film Corp, says," It's not only about showing the achievements, but presenting the present situation of China． The film will help people to know our country better．"

Amazing China also focuses on common people． In the film, you see a young Tibetan woman volunteering in rural areas to help people get rid of poverty． And, you also see a successful entrepreneur from the coastal Fujian Province who settles in the Gobi Desert, in northwest China, who has taken up a new career growing grapes．

 As an educator and health care provider, I have worked with numerous children infected with the virus that causes AlDS． The relationships that I have had with these special kids have been gifts in my life． They have taught me so many things, but I have especially learned that great courage can be found in the smallest of packages． Let me tell you about Tyler．

Tyler was born infected with HIV: his mother was also infected． From the very beginning of his life, he was dependent on medications to enable him to survive． When he was five, he had a tube inserted (插入) in a vein in his chest． This tube was connected to a pump, which he carried in a small backpack on his back． Medications were linked to this pump and continuously supplied through this tube to his bloodstream． At times, he also needed supplemented(补充的) oxygen to support his breathing．

Tyler wasn’t willing to give up one single moment of his childhood to this deadly disease． It was not unusual to find him playing and racing around his backyard, wearing his medicine-laden backpack and dragging his tank of oxygen behind him in his little wagon． All of us who knew Tyler were amazed at his pure joy in being alive and the energy it gave him． Tyler’s mom often teased him by telling him that he moved so fast that she needed to dress him in red． That way, when she peered through the window to check on him playing in the yard, she could quickly spot him．

This dreaded disease eventually wore down even the likes of a little dynamo like Tyler． He grew quite ill and, unfortunately, so did his HIV-infected mother． When it became apparent that he wasn't going to survive, Tyler’s mom talked to him about death． She comforted him by telling Tyler that she was dying too, and that she would be with him soon in heaven．

 A few days before his death, Tyler called me over to his hospital bed and whispered,“might die soon． I’m not scared． When I die, please dress me in red． Mom promised she’s coming to heaven, too． I’ll be playing when she gets there, and I want to make sure she can find me．”

In order to help the students in the poverty-stricken areas, a “Loving Parcels” donation activity was successfully held in our school hall last week．

All of the teachers and students took an active part in the activity． They donated their clothes, books and schoolbags to the students in need． In addition, they also wrote down the best wishes on cards, which would be collected and delivered to the schools in the poor areas．

Not only did the activity help us express our care for the students and send our sincere wishes to them but it also taught us that we should value what we have．
