Well, one man, Eugene Bostick, decided that when he retired, he would devote the rest of his life to helping homeless dogs feel loved.Eugene Bostick was fortunate enough to be able to retire at the ripe age of 65 after working his entire life on his farm. His farm was located at the end of a deadend street, and he noticed that people would, unfortunately, abandon their dogs on the farm and race off.Eugene refused to see these pets suffer, and he quickly picked up these abandoned dogs, giving them food and taking them to the vet (兽医) to make sure they were spayed and neutered (节育).Eugene’s farm has all kinds of animals, such as horses and goats, so these dogs have plenty of other animals toplay with.Over the last 20 years, Eugene has shown his kindness by taking on these abandoned pets, but he also saw the chance to offer them a bit of adventure. After spotting a neighbor transporting rocks behind his tractor using barrels, he realized he could do the same for his dogs. Eugene got to work to make his own train, and made sure to add some pleasant pillows so his furry friends could travel in comfort. The dogs quickly got on the train, and together, they spent hours traveling around town and through the forests nearby. After they were spotted around town, one neighbor took a picture of Eugene that went viral, and a GoFundMe page was started that gained plenty of donations. Eugene was amazed by everyone’s generosity, and was happy to see others help these abandoned animals feel loved. Eugene will continue to care for his dogs, and we should all follow his lead! What can we learn from the passage?Eugene wished to retire ahead of time to care for homeless dogs. People would race to the farm to pick up homeless dogs.Eugene and the vet took in many abandoned dogs together.Eugene’s idea for the barrel train was inspired from his neighbor. What’s people’s attitude to Eugene’s act?Supportive. B. Unconcerned. C. Doubtful. D. Astonished.Which words can be used to describe Eugene?Serious and hardworking. B. Caring and adventurous.C. Rich and generous. D. Playful and Childish. What can be the best title for this passage?Retired man’s life B. Lucky dogsC. Train for homeless dogs D. How to help homeless dogsCRecently, scientific research suggests that mental health disorders ( 障碍) affect up to 35 percent of top athletes at some stage of their careers. This can range from tiredness and eating disorders to depression and anxiety. The causes can be highly varied, with studies pointing to a range of contributing factors from poor sleep to selection pressures and early retirement due to injury.American Simone Biles is widely considered to be the greatest gymnast in the United States. When the Tokyo Olympics began, she was expected to win five gold medals. But on July 27th, she pulled out of the team final. She made the choice after having trouble landing her vault(跳跃)in the competition’s first round. Later she said her mind was not in the right place to let her safely perform the difficult moves she is known for. In other words, her mind was not letting her body do what it needed to do. Cameras caught her telling her trainers duringthe team final, “I just don’t trust myself.”Biles is not the only Olympian in recent months to talk about the pressure and mental effects of competing at the highest level. Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka lost in the second round of Olympic competition. She said she felt extreme pressure to win for Japan, where the Olympics are taking place.Few coaches and officials in sports have an expert understanding of mental health, and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), also recognizes that there is a great need for practical assessment tools that can be used by medical professionals and anyone looking after athletes to protect athletes’ mental health.“Mental health issues should be discussed more openly in sport, because athletes are always concerned about selection, and they want to appear as strong as possible,” Scientific Director Dr Richard Budgett says. “But in the end this may have negative effects, so we need to recognize and reduce the stigma so that athletes can get proper management and help when they need it.”What is the scientific research about?Athletes’ living habits.Athletes’ mental health.Causes of athletes’ injuries.Ways to reduce athletes’ pressure. Why did Simone Biles quit the team final? She was in a bad state of mind. She was badly hurt in the first round. She was not good at the difficult moves. She did not live up to her trainer’s requirements. What can be a solution to athletes’ mental health issues according to the IOC?Providing routine checkups.Adopting suitable evaluation tools.Giving regular lectures about psychology.Offering professional training to coaches. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?To introduce two outstanding athletes. To warn athletes about the danger of anxiety. To draw people’s attention to athletes’ mental health. To prove the importance of hard training to success.DA promotion(促销活动)offering 98 yuan domestic plane tickets is being advertised by Chinese online travel platform LY.COM. While such a low price sounds amazing, there is just one catch: The purchaser is not told where the flight is heading, nor when it will take off.The promotion has become a trending topic on Chinese social media as some people have been attempting to book them ahead of the upcoming May Day holiday. Labeled as a “destination blind box” on the site, tickets are purchased through a rather hassleless booking procedure, in which passengers provide their travel information, select a departure airport and then pay their 98 yuan. If the randomly chosen date and destination are unsuitable, users may ask for a refund, but once they “lock in” their tickets, there is no going back.“Destination blind box” is now a hot topic on China’s online platforms. “I believe young people are a big target demographic(特定年龄段人口)for this promotion, because they not only enjoy the thrill of the unknown, but also like to show off their lives through these types of commercial activities. Like this one for instance, it doesn’t matter if they finally go or not. Booking a ticket and posting about it on social media can still suggest that one has adventurous and lifeloving qualities,” said Fan, a marketing expert who has worked with civil aviation(航空)clients. Many people not only shared the screenshots of tickets they drew, some even came up with a tutorial to teach the booking procedure under the free canceling policy. However, some others claimed it is too rare to draw a ticket that is ideal. “If it wants to be a profitable activity, the release of the tickets must have been planned ahead and is not as random as it seems. It will not have popular airlines. The marketing campaign may also be aimed at the fast sale of some tickets from less popular airlines that were originally not that expensive. If they sell a large quantity of tickets, the company may still earn a profit even though the price is 98 yuan,” an expert in tourism suggested.Which of the following best explains “catch” underlined in paragraph 1?Benefit. B. Disadvantage. C. Mistake. D. Charm. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? The origin of “destination blind box”.The popularity of “destination blind box”.The original purpose of “destination blind box”.The purchase introduction to “destination blind box”.Why will “destination blind box” appeal to young people according to Fan?It helps them save money on the cost of travel. It allows them to experience various adventures. It satisfies their desire to travel around China. It accords with their lifestyle and attitudes. What can we infer about the promotion from the last paragraph? It makes it easy to get an ideal ticket. It will not bring in any profit. It still needs to be improved. It will give a boost to tourism. 第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。If you intend to work with this book seriously, I suggest that you give yourself every advantage by carefully following the laws of learning:Space your learning 36 . Each session may take one half hour to an hour and a half, depending on the amount of material and on your own speed of learning. Do one or two sessions at a time—if you’re going strong and are all involved—and always decide when you stop and exactly when you will return. 37 Everyone learns for a different pace. Fast learners are no better than slow learners—it’s the end result that counts, not the time it takes you to finish.ReviewWhen you start a new session, go back to the last exercise of the previous session, cover your answers, and see how much you remember. 38 .Test yourselfYou are not aiming for a grade when you take the Comprehensive Tests. 39 . You are deciding where repairs have to be made, and especially, you are experiencing a feeling of success at work that is well done. Use these tests, as well as the abundant drill exercises, as aids to learning. No one is perfect, no one learns in the exact same way or at the same speed as anyone else. 40 . And then, give yourself every opportunity to exploit your actual and potential abilities. But most important of all, as I will remind you several times throughout this book, develop a schedule and stick to it!Do you have quick recall after a day,or you simply forget everything? This approach works better than any other method for learning words. On the contrary, you are discovering your weaknesses,if any.Every chapter of this book is divided into “sessions”.Real learning goes on only through active participation.Do not rush—go at your own comfortable speed.Find the appropriate technique and speed for your unique learning patterns. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分 30 分)第一节 (共 15 小题;每小题 1 分,满分 15 分)阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。I work as a waiter at a hotel.Last night, an elderly white, seemingly 41 couple entered the restaurant. This was one more weapon for her to defeat my strange problem — inability to read.In the library, I found my way into the“Children’s Room.” I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf at random. The cover of a book caught my eye. It presented a picture of a beagle. I had recently had a beagle, the first and only animal companion I ever had as a child. He was my secret sharer, but one morning, he was gone, given away to someone who had the space and the money to care for him. I never forgot my beagle. There on the book’s cover was a beagle which looked identical to my dog. I ran my fingers over the picture of the dog on the cover. My eyes ran across the title, Amos, the Beagle with a Plan. Unknowingly, I had read the title. Without opening the book, I borrowed it from the library for the summer.Under the shade of a bush, I started to read about Amos. I read very, very slowly with difficulty. Though pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of the story about a dog who, like mine, had been separated from his family and who finally found his way back home. That dog was my dog, and I was the little boy in the book. At the end of the story, my mind continued the final scene of reunion, on and on, until my own lost dog and I were, in my mind, running together. When I finished my reading, a stream of tears ran down my checks. It was until then I realized that I have overcome my inability to read. Thus, this was the very first book for me which I had read through and deeply immersed in real sense. 注意:续写词数应为 150 左右;请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。My mother’s call returned me to the real world. Why is jet lag so annoying?W:I know what you mean.Well, you will be OK once you get some rest.Text 10Holidays are happy days with pleasurable activities and delicious foods. Many people, however, are worried about the weight that comes along with those delicious foods. With proper planning though,it is possible to control your weight. The idea is to enjoy the holidays but not to eat too much. You don’t have to turn away from the foods that you enjoy. The following suggestions may be of some help to you.Do not miss meals. Before you leave home for a bigdinner, have a small, lowfat snack. This may help to keep you from overeating when you see tables full of delicious food.Begin with clear soup and fruit or vegetables.A large glass of water before you eat may help you feel full.Use a small plate.A large plate will encourage you to have more than you need.Stay away from highfat foods.Dishes that look oily or creamy have a lot of fat in them.Choose meats containing little or no fat.Fill your plate with salad and green vegetables. If you have a sweet tooth, try fruits. They don’t have as much fat as cream and chocolate.Don’t take a break from exercise during the holidays.A 20minute walk after a meal can help burn off extra calories.
