You may hope to have healthy diets and a healthy body. You may want to eat tasty food that is easy to prepare. You may be inspired to exercise and stay in shape. The good news is that there are apps to help you.

Growing up, I was often the first Jewish person my classmates had ever met. I lived in Mississauga, Ontario, and was the only Jewish student in my grade—sometimes the only one in the whole school. This difference set me apart.
Every September, I hated presenting the note my parents had expertly made to a teacher I was just getting to know. The note explained that I would be absent during the Jewish High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. I flatted that my teachers would label me the “Jewish kid".
The real trouble always came as the local new year's festival approached. I was Jewish and celebrated Hanukkah, not this festival. At school, on one day before the winter break, every class would sit in neat rows in the gym and sing songs from the festival. However, the music teacher sometimes played Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel, a Jewish festival song, and I would feel hundreds of eyes staring at my red cheeks. As my friends counted down the days until the festival, I counted the days until it was over and I could go back to feeling normal.
Each year during primary school, my mother would coordinate(协调) with my teacher to come to my class and tell the story of Hanukkah. She would prepare treats and materials depending on my age. Every time I would proudly stand beside her as she told the story of Hanukkah and explained the symbols. The children who had attended the presentation previously competed to answer questions. After my mom left, I would overhear them showing off their fried treats to kids in other classes.
My mom's annual visits to my school sparked(激发) interest from other parents as well. Over the years, we had visits from parents who shared how festivals were celebrated in Germany and Italy.
My mom showed me, my classmates and their families that what sets us apart should be celebrated and shared, an intention which I continue to set for myself as I cycle through another holiday season.
1.What does the underlined word in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Noticed. B.Disagreed. C.Worried. D.Expected.
2.What really annoyed the author during the local festival?
A.Being a trick target. B.Singing holiday songs.
C.Being culturally different. D.Celebrating others' festival.
3.How did the author's classmates react to Mom's coming?
A.They welcomed it warmly. B.They gave away her treats.
C.They showed off themselves. D.They expressed sympathy for her.
4.Which of the following best states what Mom did at school?
A.She protected her child from being hurt.
B.She encouraged cross-cultural understanding.
C.She made Hanukkah a school-celebrated festival.
D.She saved the Jewish tradition from being changed.
C
For much of human history and in many places, girls were considered property, or required to obey their fathers until the day they had to start obeying their husbands. In most of the world that vision of girlhood now seems not merely old-fashioned but unimaginably remote. In field after field girls have caught up with boys. Globally, young women now outnumber (数量超过) young men at university. Girl babies are more wanted than ever before. Even in places, such as China, where the sex-selective abortion of girls has been common, it is becoming less so. Girls are also less likely to be married off in childhood. In 1995 almost six in ten girls in South Asia were married before reaching 18; that has fallen by half.
When societies handle girlhood well, the knock-on effects are astonishing. A girl who finishes secondary school is less likely to become a child bride or a teenage mother. Education boosts earning power and widens choices, so she is less likely to be poor or to suffer domestic abuse. She will have fewer children, and invest more in them. They will be less likely to die in babyhood, or to grow up stunted physically or mentally. She will read to them more and help them with their homework. All this means they will learn more, and earn more as adults. A recent study estimated that, if 100% of their girls completing secondary school is ensured, it could lead to a lasting boost to GDP.
Despite the benefits of nurturing girls, some countries have still failed to grasp them. Only one girl in three south of the Sahara finishes her secondary education. The COVID-19 pandemic could disturb progress for girls in poor countries, or even reverse it. When Ebola forced west African schools to close in 2014, many girls dropped out, never went back and ended up pregnant or as child laborers. UNICEF warns that something similar could happen with COVID-19—but on a larger scale.
1.What’s the main idea of the first paragraph?
A.Girls suffer a lot in human history.
B.Girls’ situation has improved a lot globally.
C.Girl babies are more welcomed than ever before.
D.Girls do much better than boys in many fields.
2.What can we infer from the passage?
A.There are more young women than young men at university in China.
B.A girl who completes secondary school will have more children.
C.Children of the girls with schooling may end up earning more as adults.
D.Economy of countries is largely determined by the education level of girls.
3.What does the underlined word “stunted” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Healthy. B.Confident. C.Underdeveloped. D.Unstable.
4.Why is Ebola mentioned in the last paragraph?
A.To prove COVID-19 is more serious than Ebola.
B.To warn that girls may suffer a lot in COVID-19.
C.To appeal to all to pay attention to the poor countries.
D.To stress the importance of controlling the disasters.

Boston wants to be smarter. The city has taken advantage of technologies to become more responsive to its residents’ needs. But technology alone is not sufficient to make today's cities live-able. Boston has discovered that it also needs to reach the old-fashioned low-tech community and integrate that technology with city life.
Kris Carter rolled out Boston's smart city program in 2014. It started with an app that residents could download to report locations where sidewalks needed repair. The city sorted out those reports and ranked them in a database, which repair crews used to prioritize their work.
The system worked beautifully, except for one problem: most of the alerts(警报) came from wealthier neighborhoods, where the concentration of smartphone-equipped residents was highest. “The complaints from the app didn't always correlate with the greatest community need for re-pairs,” explains Carter.
Carter's group has moved away from the model common to many smart city initiatives of letting tech-savvy(精通技术的) residents drive the process, Instead, they run meetings to find out what problems people in different neighborhoods care about. When it came to sidewalks, Boston introduced a second method of collecting repair tips, hiring people to get out and walk the city's 1, 700 miles of sidewalks to take notes of their condition.
“Whether using low-tech or high-tech approaches,” says Carter, “to stay smart, a city needs to continually reassess its options to spot opportunities to improve residents’ lives. Take the side-walk repair program for example. Walking on the streets was proved a useful, if inefficient way to prioritize repair needs.” But last year the group found that walkers’ mobile phones could be tracked as they moved along the streets, and that data could be analyzed to identify sidewalk routes which are most often used by neighborhoods.
“Combined with our other sidewalk information, that gave us an even better way to predict where faster repairs would do the most good,” says Carter. “We’re really always looking for whatever mix of approaches best solves the problem.”
1.What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A.The citizens’ life. B.The city's reputation.
C.The city's management. D.The benefits of technology.
2.What problem did Kris Carter's team meet when carrying out their program?
A.They faced many technical obstacles.
B.They were annoyed by being short-staffed.
C.They were not supported by residents.
D.They couldn't serve all residents well.
3.Which of the following might Kris Carter most agree with?
A.Maximizing the benefits of technology.
B.Giving full play to the power of residents.
C.Mixing approaches to solve problems.
D.Letting tech companies be a leading role.
4.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.A Smart City: More than Just Technology
B.A City with Intelligent Facilities
C.Joint Effort in City Construction
D.The Modernization of a City

B
Every September, I hated presenting the note my parents had expertly made to a teacher I was just getting to know. The note explained that I would be absent during the Jewish High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur."(9月,我都讨厌把父母熟练地写的便条交给我刚刚以识的老师。
As my friends counted down the days until the festival, I counted the days until it was over and I could go back to feeling normal."(真正的麻频总是在当地的新年临近时出现。
The children who had attended the presentation previously competed to answer questions. After my mom left, I would overhear them showing off their fried treats to kids in other classes."(之前参加过介绍会的孩子们竞相回答问题。 故选A项。
My mom's annual visits to my school sparked(激发) interest from other parents as well. Over the years, we had visits from parents who shared how festivals were celebrated in Germany and Italy."(我妈妈每年都来访我的学校,这也激发了其他家长的兴趣。 My mom showed me, my classmates and their families that what sets us apart should be celebrated and shared, an intention which I continue to set for myself as I cycle through another holiday season."(我妈妈告诉我、我的同学和他们的家人,让我们与众不同的东西应该被庆祝和分享,这是我在另一个假期里为自己设定的目标。)
In field after field girls have caught up with boys. Globally, young women now outnumber young men at university. Girl babies are more wanted than ever before. Even in places, such as China, where the sex-selective abortion of girls has been common, it is becoming less so. Girls are also less likely to be married off in childhood.(在一个又一个的领域,女生已经追上了男生。
She will read to them more and help them with their homework. All this means they will learn more, and earn more as adults.(她会给他们读更多的书,帮助他们做作业。
They will be less likely to die in babyhood, or to grow up stunted physically or mentally."
When Ebola forced west African schools to close in 2014, many girls dropped out, never went back and ended up pregnant or as child laborers. UNICEF warns that something similar could happen with COVID-19—but on a larger scale.(2014年,当埃博拉病毒迫使西非学校关闭时,许多女孩辍学,再也没有回去,最终怀孕或成为童工。
D
答案:1.C; 2.D; 3.C; 4.A
根据文章第一段“But technology alone is not sufficient to make today's cities livable. Boston has discovered that it also needs to reach the old-fashioned low-tech community and integrate that technology with city life.”
由第三段最后一句“The complaints from the App didn’t always correlate with the greatest community need for repairs, explains Garter.” 根据第四段“Carter's group has moved away from the model common to many smart city initiatives of letting tech-savvy(精通技术的)residents drive the process. Instead, they run meetings to find out what problems people in different neighborhoods care about solving”可知,卡特的团队已经摆脱了许多智能城市倡议的共同模式,即让精通技术的居民来推动这一进程。
由最后一段最后一句“We're really always looking for whatever ever mix of approaches best solves the problem.”
故选A。
When it comes to hobbies and career, all of us have our own stories. As a little girl,my favorite thing to do was read — same as today. So I figured I'd be a librarian when I grew up.(说到爱好和职业,我们每个人都有自己的故事。 The library had a two-book limit, but she knew I'd blow through those in just a few days,so she always let me check out a big stack.(图书馆有两本书的限制,但她知道我几天就能看完,所以她总是让我借一大堆书)"可知,后文提到了某人知道作者的阅读习惯,G选项中Mrs.Tonne对应后文she。
Time passed quickly and I was in fourth grade. Our school librarian,Mrs.Ketelsen, sent some poems I'd written about dinosaurs to Highlights magazine.(时间过得很快,我上了四年级。
At the University, though majoring in journalism,I quickly learned that I did not want to be a newspaper reporter.(在大学里,虽然我的专业是新闻,但我很快意识到我并不想成为一名新闻记者)"以及后文"It amuses almost everyone who knows me and thinks I'm outgoing. (I am,but only with people I know!) So I was thrilled when I was selected for a summer internship at Reader's Digest.(几乎所有认识我并且认为我很外向的人都觉得很有趣。
Ten years after that,I came back to RD to work as an editor.(10年后,我回到了《读者文摘》,做编辑)"以及后文"I've worked at other magazines too,but I've spent most of my career here, reading magazines, newspapers, websites, and books for stories we could condense;writing articles;even choosing jokes.(我也在其他杂志工作过,但我职业生涯的大部分时间都花在这里,阅读杂志、报纸、网站和书籍,寻找我们可以简缩的故事、写文章,即使选择的笑话)"可知,作者十年后再次回到了曾经实习过的《读者文摘》做编辑,可推测回去的路很漫长。
The Tractor War" takes me home to the Midwest. "Something to Sneeze At" reminds me of all the sneezing I did when I moved to New York City and was suddenly allergic to grasses and trees...I relate to lots of our stories this month, and I hope you do too.

A. frequently 频繁地;B. dramatically 显著地;C. conversely 相反地;D. slowly缓慢地;根据后文“foodbanks to feed their families”“not to Christmas gifts”可知因为疫情许多孩子家只能靠救济粮过活,没有圣诞礼物,也就是说他们的生活发生了大的变化。故选B项。
A. relying on 依赖;B. focusing on 集中于;C. looking forward to 期待;D. getting used to 习惯于;根据食物银行和疫情这一特殊时期,可推断出是靠救济粮过活,故A项“依赖”符合句意。故选A项。
A. extremes 极限;B. supermarkets 超市;C. communities 社区;D. essentials 必需品;根据后文的“not to Christmas gifts”可知钱不用于礼物,那么相反肯定是要花在刀刃上,也就是必需品。故选D项。
而 take sth upon onself 意为“承担…...” 故选A项。
A. Therefore 因此;B. Instead 反而;C. Besides 除…...外;D. Thus 因此;根据前文“But she won’t be keeping it for herself.”
A. stepped up 走上前来;B. rose up 起义;C. stopped up 不睡觉;D. got up 起床;根据前后文可推断出这些捐钱的人是在帮助Renee,他们是在艰难时期挺身而出做好事。故选A项。
故选A项。
A. experience 经验;B. work 工作;C. customer 顾客;D. income 收入;根据前文可知做Uber的司机目的是“for some extra money”,所以Uber给她增加了收入。故选D项。
而stock up on 意为“储备”符合句意。故选C项。
A. happy 开心的;B. down 悲伤的;C. thrilled 惊悚的;D. frightened 害怕的;根据后文“she didn’t do this for them, she would letting them down.”
A. curious 好奇的;B. serious 严肃的;C. anxious 焦虑的;D. obvious 显然的;根据前一段最后一句“her office is quickly filling up with presents…”
A. beyond 超过;B. under 在…...下;C. without 没有;D. behind 在…...后;根据前一段最后一句“her office is quickly filling up with presents…” 故选A项。
A. free 自由的;B. true 真实的;C. optimistic 乐观的;D. hopeful 充满希望的;根据前一段可知对Renee有两个评价,一“have a big heart”心胸阔达,二“love children”爱孩子。
1. initially2. been turned3. offence4. against5. unfair6. days7. to prove8. containing9. a10. which
故填been turned。
故填against。

故填to prove。
故填a。
故填which。

故what改为how。
故after改为before。
