“Hello, Earth! Can you hear me?” That’s voice more than 400,000 people received recently. It was from Philae, a space vehicle that landed on a comet(彗星)in 2014. However, its transmissions (传输信号)back home went silent since then.
It took a long time for Philae to make its way across the solar system (太阳系)and reach comet 67P/C-G. The pace vehicle got there aboard the Rosetta probe (探测器), which has been circling around the comet since Philae separated from it in November, 2014.
Philae’s job was to collect materials to study the comet’s composition. And for about two and a half days after landing, it did just that, sending the information back to scientists on Earth. But Philae’s landing on the comet’s icy surface had not been smooth. While touching down, it jumped up and ended up in the shadow of something like a huge rock. Philae runs on solar power, but there was no light in the place where it landed. In the end, it failed to work.
However,as comet 67P/C-G moved closer to the sun, more sunlight reached the space vehicle, allowing it to power up and come back online. Philae then sent something to Rosetta, which passed on the information back to Earth.
“We only received the information for about 85 seconds, but that’s enough to let us know it is alive and well,”says Stephan Ulamec, who works for the European Space Agency.“We hope to work out where it landed exactly on the 4-kilometer-wide comet. Now we plan to change how Rosetta moves so that Philae can keep on communicating and receiving instructions.”
24.Hearing Philae’s voice,those people must have felt_______________.
A.afraid B.calm C.excited D.worried.
25.According to the text, Philae_______________.
A.was damaged when it landed B.moved around comet 67P/C-G
C.needs light and gas to keep working D.helps scientists learn about a comet
26.What Stephan says in the text suggests that ____________.
A.Rosetta will move around another comet B.Philae will continue to work for scientists
C.most comets are as wide as four kilometers D.he wonders whether Philae is still alive
27.What does the author mainly talk about in the text?
A.A sleeping space vehicle wakes up. B.It is very dangerous to travel in space.
C.A new comet was discovered recently. D.Philae was sent into space successfully.

Boomerang children who return to live with their parents after university can be good for families, leading to closer, more supportive relationships and increased contact between the generations, a study has found.
The findings disagree with the research published earlier this year showing that returning adult children trigger a significant worsening in their parents’ quality of life and wellbeing.
The young adults taking part in the study were “more positive than might have been expected” about moving back home–the shame is reduced as so many of their friends are in the same position, and they acknowledged the benefits of their parents’ financial and emotional support. Daughters were happier than sons, often getting back easily to teenage patterns of behavior, the study found.
Parents on the whole were more uncertain, expressing concern about how they can arrange and manage it if their children continue to live with them. But they acknowledged that things were different for graduates today, who leave university with huge debts and fewer job opportunities.
The families who participated in the study were middle-class and were more likely to view the achievement of adult independence for their children as a “family project”. Parents accepted that their children needed support as university students and then as graduates returning home, as they tried to find jobs paying enough to enable them to move out or even afford their own house.
“However,” the study says, “many parents and a little over half the graduates report day-to-day tensions about the prospects of achieving adult independence, which in a few extreme situations came close to conflict”.
Areas of disagreement included housework, money and social life. While parents were willing to help, they also wanted different relationships from those they had with their own parents, and continuing to support their adult children allowed them to remain close.
28.According to the passage, we can know ________.
A.The parents’ quality of life was not as good as before.
B.The parents were looking forward to their children’s return.
C.Boomerang children can be beneficial to families.
D.Boomerang children never did any housework.
29.The underlined word “trigger” in Paragraph 2 may be best replaced by ___________.
A.gain B.cause C.arise D.allow
30.What is the attitude of the college graduates towards returning home?
A.They are glad that they could come back.
B.They are ashamed of turning to their parents for help.
C.They are doubtful about whether they should return.
D.They are proud to be independent from the family.
31.What can be inferred as the reason for the “boomerang children” phenomenon (现象)?
A.The children want to keep in closer touch with their parents.
B.It is harder for the children to land a satisfying job.
C.The parents are willing to provide support to their children.
D.There is more housework needed to be done by the children.
D
The sun is setting on a summer night. At the entrance to a deep, dark cave, a few bats fly out and begin swirling high up into the air. More and more of the small, furry creatures appear. Within a few minutes, a whole river of bats is pouring out of the cave, and they keep coming, millions and millions of them.
Sounds like a scary horror movie? Believe it or not, this scene takes place every night, all summer long, at Bracken Cave in Texas ,US, where 20 million bats fly outside to feed on insects.“It is magical,” says Jim Kennedy of Bat Conservation International in Austin Texas.“It is one of the most majestic animal movements on the planet.”
Every March or April, Mexican free-tailed bats migrate up to 1,000 miles (1,609 kilometers) from their winter home in Mexico to this cave, where they raise their young. Soon after they arrive, each mother gives birth to one pup. As many as 500 baby bats crowd into one square foot (30.48 cubic centimeters) of space, all those bodies create nice warm temperatures to keep them cozy and comfortable. If you’ve ever lost sight of your parents on a crowded play ground, you may be wondering how mother bats recognize their children. They use their sense of smell to tell which pup is theirs when it is time for the babies to nurse.
The cave, a quiet place in winter, is filled with life all summer—and not just with bat residents. Bat waste soon covers the floor, providing food for tiny organisms(生物体) like bacteria and fungi(真菌).And then there are the bugs.
When the adult bats leave the cave at night to feed, they are helping humans. They eat tons of insects in a single night, including many pests that eat farmers’ crops. And they get rid of mosquitoes, too.
32.In the first paragraph, the author ________.
A.describes the movement of bats B.provides some information about bats
C.advises the reader to watch bats D.stresses the danger of bats in summer
33.According to the passage, the reader possibly thinks that _________.
A.no people know how many bats live in Bracken Cave
B.bat waste causes much harm to the human environment
C.a bat mother would have trouble finding her own baby
D.farmers will never have a good harvest without the bats
34.Which of the following is TRUE about the bats?
A.They are well protected by farmers.
B.They smell better than other animals.
C.They benefit from some tiny organisms.
D.They travel from Mexico to America yearly.
35.By saying “Sound like a scary horror movie?” what does the author mean______?
A.Bats are better horrible characters in films.
B.People tend to feel afraid of bats.
C.The cave mentioned is full of adventure.
D.The above scene is somewhat unbelievable.

Dear Fred,
Glad to hear from you. I'd like to tell you about our study tour "Into Xi'an" last weekend.
We set off at 7:00 am on Saturday. After arriving in Xi'an, we went to visit Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, where we saw the wisdom of ancient Chinese people. In the evening we went out to watch some shadow plays, an ancient form of Chinese storytelling. The following day we climbed the famous Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Standing on top of it, we had a great view of the city. After that, we tasted some delicious local foods. It was 5:00 pm when we started home. I feel lucky to have spent such a lovely weekend in Xi'an relaxing and experiencing the local culture.
If you'd like to visit Xi'an, I would be willing to show you around.
Yours,
Li Hua
