Researchers have discvered a new bacterium that feeds n plyurethane, a kind f plastic that is difficult t recycle r destry. Scientists say the discvery culd help reduce a fld f hard — t — recycle plastics that are ending up in the wrld's landfills(垃圾填埋地) and plluting ceans.
A team frm the Helmhltz Center fr Envirnmental Research in Leipzig, Germany, fund the new type f sil bacteria. It was sptted in an area that cntained a large amunt f plastic waste. The team discvered the bacteria were feeding n plyurethane dil, which was widely used in many different prducts.
One prblem is that recycling plyurethane requires a lt f energy. The plastic material des nt melt when heated. Mst plyurethane-based prducts end up in landfills, where they can release dangerus chemicals. The team rund that the bacterium can prduce enzymes(酶)that eat away plyurethane. This wuld make it pssible t break dwn the material in the envirnment. The results were recently reprted in a study in the publicatin Frntiers in Micrbilgy. Hermann Heipieper helped write the reprt. He said in a statement the finding “represents an imprtant step in being able t reuse plyurethane prducts.”
German study nted that plastic-eating bacteria culd be easily cntrlled and prduced fr industrial use. The researchers said the next step is t find mre infrmatin abut the bacterial enzymes that can break dwn plyurethane.
Scientist Duglas Rader wrte abut the issue in a 2018 article fr the Envirnmental Defense Fund. He said much mre study shuld be carried ut t learn abut the cmplex relatinships between bacteria and marine ecsystems. “Such research is needed befre we can take actin such as putting plastic-eating bacteria int the cean,” Rader wrte.
4.What is the prblem abut plyurethane?
A.It seems difficult t transprt when it ges t landfills.
B.It affects the quality f plastic prducts if widely used.
C.It melts easily when expsed t the sun fr a lng time.
D.It pllutes the envirnment unless recycled r destryed.
5.What d we knw abut the new type f bacteria frm the text?
A.It can prduce harmful chemicals.B.It can gradually destry plyurethane.
C.It is very hard t discver and cntrl.D.It is very likely t increase plastic waste.
6.What is Duglas Rader's attitude twards the future use f the new bacterium?
A.Dubtful.B.Disapprval.
C.Cautius.D.Enthusiastic.
7.Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?

When ur Scttish puppy reached dggie adlescence, she suddenly stpped beying my cmmands. Previusly, if I called “cme,” Annie wuld fly acrss ur yard t my arms. Nw, the 8-mnth-ld gave me an aggressive “make me” lk and ran the ther way.
Our dg trainer advised us t stp cmplaining. “She's a teenager,” she said. Nw, a new study is backing that up: Dgs, it says, experience an versensitive perid just like human teenagers. “There is abundant flk knwledge that the behavir f adlescents differs frm yunger r lder dgs,” says Barbara Smuts.
Puppies bnd with humans much as children d. “But wners ften feel like they're failing when their puppies reach adlescence,” abut 8 mnths fr mst dgs, says Lucy Asher. Like teenagers, adlescent dgs can disregard and disbey their wners. Indeed, teenage dgs are the mst likely age grup t land in U.S. shelters.
T see exactly hw adlescence changes dg behavir, Asher and her team mnitred 70 female dgs being raised as ptential guide dgs. They asked caregivers t scre the puppies n separatin-related behavirs, like trembling when left behind. Dgs with high scres n this behavir entered adlescence earlier-at abut 5 mnths, cmpared with 8 mnths fr thse with lwer scres. Varius factrs cause human teenage girls with pr parental relatinships t als enter adlescence at a yunger age. Thus, similar t humans, dgs that have bad relatinships with their caregivers see changes in their develpment.
Accrding t Smuts, adlescent dgs that were stressed by separatin frm their caregiver als increasingly disbeyed that persn, shwing the insecurity f human teenagers.
Because f the similarity between adlescent pups and humans, dgs can serve as a mdel species fr studying adlescence in humans, the scientists say. The temprary nature f dgs which disbey the wners may make us wrry less when ur pups suddenly get minds f their wn.
8.The authr's attitude twards his dg's misbehavir can be best described as
A.tlerantB.delightedC.unsatisfiedD.indifferent
9.The underlined wrd “disregard” in paragraph 3 prbably means?

C.Adlescent dgs are fnd f being separated frm their caregivers.
D.Dgs having pr relatin with their caregivers enter adlescence earlier.
11.What's the main idea f the passage?
A.Bth yung dgs and teenagers rely n their parents.
B.Many researches have shwn yung dgs are aggressive.
C.Adlescent dgs feel mre anxius and frightened than teenagers.
D.Like human teenagers, dgs get difficult when they reach adlescence.

Sea urchins (海胆) are small creatures, but what’s really remarkable abut them is that they eat anything that happens t flat by. They have really sharp teeth they use t rid rcks f algae (海澡), which makes them pretty valuable especially in places like Hawaii where algae are threatening the cral reefs. In the summer f 2019, 500,000 f them were used t deal with the algae.
The prblem started when nn-native algae were intrduced t the ecsystem f Kane’he Bay in the 1970s. Because they had n enemies, they ended up taking ver the bay, accrding t the Natinal Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). The algae blcked sunlight frm reaching the cral, which in turn affected the lcal fish because they changed the chemistry f the water.
That's when the NMFS turned t sea urchins that lved t devur the algae. But they had t grw t the size f a cherry tmat befre they culd be used. Since 2011, sea urchins have been grwn and used t handle the algae prblem. Sme f the funds are available due t an unfrtunate incident.
In 2005, a ship was grunded n a shallw reef near Kane’he Bay. When the ship was remved, 20 acres f reefs have been damaged. When there is envirnmental damage, the NMFS and ther agencies receive funds frm the wrngders and the funds are used t restre the damage. Sme funds were spent n ther prjects like the sea urchins. When they are large enugh, divers carefully place them n the reef.
Algae isn’t the nly thing that threatens the cral reefs. Climate change and the effects f fishing and turism in the area als endanger the cral reefs. But turning t sea urchins instead f man-made slutins seems like the best way t g.
12.Why are sea urchins regarded as utstanding creatures?
A.They are tiny but have teeth.B.They can keep the cean clean.
C.They are useful in remving algae.D.They grw n cral reefs with algae.
13.What happened after nn-native algae arrived at Kane’he Bay?
A.They helped the cral reefs t survive.B.They spread t every crner f the bay.
C.They didn’t fit in with the new surrundings.D.They fught against ther species t get fd.
14.What des the underlined wrd “devur” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Eat.B.Blck.C.Tease.D.Attract.
15.What des the authr suggest ding t save cral reefs?
A.Relying n humans’ slutins.B.Banning fishing and turism.
C.Emplying divers t handle algae.D.Letting nature take care f nature.
