You can either travel or read, but either your body or soul must be on the way. The popular saying has inspired many people to read or go sightseeing. Here are four books we recommend that you take on your trip.

    1. On the Road, 1957, by Jack Kerouac

The book is a popular spiritual guide book about youth. The character in the book drives across the US continent with several young people and finally reaches Mexico. After the exhausting and exciting trip, the characters in the book begin to realize the meaning of life.

    2. Life is Elsewhere, 1975, by Milan Kundera

Jean-Jacques Rousseau once said, “Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains”. The book describes a young artist’s romantic but miserable life, about how he reads, dreams and has a relationship during his trip to Central Europe. The book invites you to deeply reflect on your current life and to honor Kundera, a Czech-born writer and who went into exile in France in 1975.

    3. My Name is Red, 1998, by Orhan Pamuk

The book, featuring a peak masterpiece of the Nobel Prize winner for Literature Orhan Pamuk, has been translated into more than 50 languages and published around the world. It tells a story of a young man, who has been away from home for 12 years, coming back to his hometown in Istanbul. What embraces him is not only love, but a series of murder cases as well.

    4. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, 2013, by Rachel Joyce

The novel tells a story of a 60-year-old man who lives a boring and unhappy life, until one day, he received his old friend’s letter who got cancer. In deep shock and sorrow, he went out to send his reply letter. 627 miles in 87 days, he walks depending on one belief that “his friend can survive as long as he walks”.

B THE BEST BOOKS OF 2020

In our efforts to increase and spread knowledge, we highly recommend these titles issued this year.

You Never Forget Your First: A Biography of George Washington

Feasting Wild: In Search of the Last Untamed Food

Gina Rae La Cerva travels the globe in search of some of the planet’s last truly wild foods. Her journey takes her to a place in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she investigates the “bush meat" trade that is common in the region’s rainforest and results in the illegal hunting of wild animals.

The Man Who Ate Too Much: The Life of James Beard

The Internet plays a big part in human life. We use it for work and entertainment. We can find new recipes(食谱) on the Interact or advice on staying healthy. We can even use it to learn a new language. We use the Internet to keep in contact with family and friends and stay in touch with issues we care about. The list goes on and on.

Well, there may be no going back to an Internet-free life. But can using the Internet too much be bad for our health? It might be, say researchers. A new study finds that heavy Internet use may be connected to high blood pressure in an unlikely group---teenagers. So, try to be a responsible guardian for your children.

The study results show that teens who spend at least 14 hours a week online are more likely to have high blood pressure. High blood pressure makes your heart and blood vessels(血管) work too hard. Over time, this extra strain(压力) increases your risk of a heart attack or stroke(中风). High blood pressure can also cause heart, kidney and brain diseases.

The Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan did the study. It involved 335 young people, from 14 to 17 years old. One hundred and thirty-four of the teens were described as “heavy Internet users”. Researchers found that out of these 134 teens, 26 had high blood pressure. The researchers say the study is the first one to connect heavy web use with high blood pressure. Another research has connected that heavy Internet use with health problems including anxiety, depression and obesity(肥胖症).

The lead researcher of the study is Andrea Cassidy-Bushrow. For the purpose of the study, she explains, teens considered heavy Internet users were online on average “25 hours a week”. In a statement she said, “Using the Internet is part of our daily but it shouldn’t consume us.”

Ms. Gassidy-Bushrow adds that it is important for teens to take regular breaks from their computers or smart phones and to do some kinds of physical activities. She also suggests that parents limit their children’s use of the Internet to two hours a day, five days a week.

8The author mainly wants to tell us       .

Ahow to prevent high blood pressure.

Bheavy Internet use will worsen teenagers’ memory.

Cit’s necessary for teenagers to avoid the Internet.

Dtoo much Internet use may be bad for teenagers.

APeople shouldn’t buy goods through the Internet.

BPeople should control the time length of using the Internet

CPeople shouldn’t fall in love with the Internet.

DPeople shouldn’t waste too much time on the Internet.

10.According to Casssidy-Bushrow, teenagers’ use of the Internet should be limited to __.

Most rain forests lie to the equator(赤道), where the climate is often mild and there are long hours of sunshine. The warmth of the land heats the air above, causing it to rise and tiny drops of water to fall as rain. The rainfall can reach at least 98 inches a year. This wet, warm world with plenty of sunlight is perfect for plants to grow, so the trees grow fast with green leaves all the year round. The trees themselves also have an effect on the climate. They gather water from the soil and pass it out into the air through their leaves. The wet air then forms clouds, which hang over the treetops like smoke. These clouds protect the forest from the daytime heat and night-time cold of nearby deserts, keeping temperatures fit for plant growth.

Rain forests slightly farther away from the equator remain just as warm, but they have a dry season of three months or more when little rain falls. Tree leaves fall during this dry season and new leaves grow when the wet season or monsoon(雨季) begins. Thus these areas are known as the "monsoon forest".

Another type of rain forest grows on tropical mountains. It is often called the "cloud forest" because clouds often hang over the trees like fog.

The rain forest is the ideal place for the growth of many different trees. Most of them depend on animals to eat their fruits and spread their seeds. When the fruits are eaten, the seeds inside them go undamaged through animals' stomachs and are passed out in their droppings. The seeds lying on the forest floor then grow into new trees.

    12. The climate of the rain forests near the equator is ______.

    A. mild, wet and windy                B. hot, rainy and foggy

    C. hot, wet and cloudy                 D. warm, wet and sunny

    13. We can learn from the passage that ______.

    A. tree leaves are green all the time in the monsoon forest

    B. there is a dry season in the cloud forest on tropical mountains

    C. clouds help the plants in the rain forests near the deserts to grow

    D. the formation of climate in the rain forest has little to do with the trees

    14. According to the passage, ______ play the most important role in the spreading of seeds.

    A. animals      B. droppings   C. fruits    D. winds

    15. This passage is most likely to be found in _______.

    A. a travel guide                         B. a story book

    C. a technical report                      D. a geographical book

The only way we can really successfully deal with the unpleasant or unknown situations is to stay open minded. 16. Here is what they say worth trying.

Stay calm. One of the fastest ways to close your mind is to feel annoyed.17. So try taking a deep breath and calming down a lite to help fight the feelings of defensiveness or annoyance that might pop up when you find something that doesn't quite match how you see the world.

Be curious. This sounds easy, but it's not. It requires an active choice when you meet something you didn't know. You have to keep asking yourself. “Do I just assure this is something I already knew? Or do I want to be curious?” 18.

Surround yourself with the right people. Open-mindedness is often thought of as a one way street. 19. But the truth is that you can go both ways if you are surrounded by right people.

    20. Being around different people day to day can actually change your brain and you are more likely to see the world in a new way. And that's what real open mindedness is about: the willingness to consider, even briefly, another point of view.

AMany of us consider ourselves open minded

BHowever, experts say it's easier said than done for most of us

CSo it's possible that a little bit of help could be the push we need

DEither you're open minded to the world around you, or you're not

E.Answering these questions is a big step toward being open minded

F.When you're angry the last thing you want to do is to adjust yourself

G.The best condition for open mindedness is to diversify the people in your life
