I enjoyed roller skating (滑旱冰). When I was a young boy, I enjoyed ice skating on rivers during the winter months. Since river ice was free and I couldn’t afford to enter a special skating area, I never started roller skating until I was about 20. However, once I started roller skating, I knew that I would be able to go skating all the year, not just during the winter months.
As my years of roller skating began to increase, I often discovered that I would be the oldest skater on the skating rink (旱冰场). Many times I asked the parents watching their children skate why they weren’t skating. They would tell me they skated when they were younger, but they were too old to do it now.
Through my 40s and 50s I continued to go skating with the kids. About a year ago I skated with a group of students. However, this time it was different. I was having trouble keeping my balance and almost fell several times. I thought it must be because of the skates. After skating with in-line skates for many years, perhaps I needed to return to the traditional roller skates with the toe-stop. Sadly, even with the change of skates, the result was the same. Fun on the skating rink was being replaced with fear.
Having reached the age of 60, I realized that my fears of skating were finally over. My new task is to help children enjoy skating as much as possible. If they are having a difficult time trying to skate, I will comfort and encourage them. This all has made me smile and laugh a lot more now. I now get to see the joy that I once had of roller skating on the faces of others.
24. What do we know about the author?
A. He comes from a poor family. B. He always goes skating in winter.
C. He took to roller skating as a child. D. He prefers roller skating to ice skating.
25. Why did some parents avoid skating?
A. They didn’t like skating at all. B. They didn’t know how to skate.
C. They thought it unsuitable for them. D. They had to watch over their children.
26. What docs the underlined sentence in Para. 3 suggest about the author?
A. His choice was far from reasonable. B. He couldn’t skate as well as before.
C. He needn’t have changed his skates. D. His love for roller skating disappeared.
27. Which role does the author play now?
A. An assistant. B. A leader. C. A monitor. D. A supporter.

Visitors to Rome can now see one of the most important private collections of ancient Greek and Roman statues (雕像). The 90 works from the Torlonia Collection opened this week in the newly rebuilt Palazzo Caffarelli, overlooking the Roman Forum.
Among the works is a fountain that was made in ancient Greece. Experts on ancient Rome believe the fountain once stood in the garden of the general and statesman Julius Caesar. It was already hundreds of years old.
The 620-piece Torlonia Collection is believed to be the greatest private collection of classical art in the world. It was begun more than a century ago by Prince Alessandro Torlonia. He found many of the pieces on the grounds of his family’s Roman garden Rich from a business relationship with the Vatican (梵蒂冈), the family bought other well-known statue collections.
In 1884, the prince built his own museum to show off his collection. When the museum closed in 1976, the pieces went into storage (贮藏).
“The reappearance of such a collection is a very important event,” said art historian Salvatore Settis. “When I first saw them, they were very emotional because I knew most of those pieces from books, but I had never seen them.”
The Torlonia family chose Settis to help with the difficult job of deciding which works should be shown to the public. Anna Maria Carruba helped prepare the statues for the show. “Many of these pieces were already restored from (the year) 1600 onwards. We didn’t need to work on the structure of the statues but only on the surfaces, cleaning them,” she said.
The show will stay open until June 29, 2021. It is the result of public and private cooperation among the culture ministry, the city of Rome, the Torlonia Foundation and the Roman jeweler Bvlgari.
28. Which of the following can describe the Torlonia family?
A. Unlucky. B. Wealthy. C. Humorous. D. Ungenerous.

A. Repair statues. B. Introduce statues.
C. Put off the statue show. D. Select statues for show.
31. What can be the best title for the text?

B. People Look Forward to Seeing Famous Statues
C. Ancient Statues Reappear after Years in Storage

The French are getting fatter, but a campaign against fat-shaming is under way. France has only a few fat heroes, real or imagined. There was King Louis the Fat, who ruled from 1108 to 1137, and won several wars. And Gargantua, a big guy created by Francois Rabelais, drank the milk of 17,913 cows each day.
In fact the French are thinner than people in most other rich countries: only 15.3% of them are very fat, compared with an OECD average of 19.5%. But nowadays the number of Frenchmen who are overweight has risen from 30% to over 46%. A growing desire for processed food and more sedentary (久坐不动的) lives are leading to overweight.
For officials, this is a problem. Being overweight leads to sickness. The state says that the overweight population already needs extra health and other spending of $20 billion a year. And weight is closely related to poverty: a French study suggested that children whose parents are “non-professional” are four times likelier to be fat than those of professionals. To reduce overeating, France taxes sugary drinks, bans junk food in schools.
At the same time, officials want people to be kinder to their plus- sized people. Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, hosted a conference on fat-shaming, including a fashion show with larger models. The event was partly inspired by the success of a book written by a trainee teacher, Gabrielle Deydier, a fat person in France.
However, it is difficult for officials to go on the campaign. Although fashion industry promises not to use slim models when selling their goods, billboards and magazines remain using skinny figures. And that may cause both dieting problems among the thin and pain among the fat.
32. What can we know about Frenchmen who are overweight?
A. The rate of overweight people has risen slowly in recent years.
B. Some unhealthy lifestyles cause the increasing number of the fat.
C. They are thinner than people in most other rich countries.
D. Adults are more likely to gain weight than children.
33. Which is the problem that being overweight leads to according to Para.3?
A. The rising death rate. B. Poverty of native people.
C. More taxes on junk food. D. Extra money on health care.
34. In order to be kinder to the plus-sized people, which of the following was done?
A. A trainee teacher was invited to the conference.
B. Laughing at overweight people was forbidden.
C. A fashion show with larger models was held.
D. Gabrielle’s book was published successfully.
35. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Using slim figures causes problems on both thin and fat people.
B. The campaign receives support of all the citizens.
C. The campaign has a bad effect on overweight people.
D. All industries make effective contributions to the campaign.

A few tips for getting started
I’ve always wanted to start my own business. 36 In 2013, 1 finally got started instead of thinking about it or putting it off until a later time. Here’s why getting started is the best way to get started.
● It’s better than thinking about it.
37 But thinking can also be dangerous when you do too much of it. You can think as much as you like, but thinking isn’t going to change the situation. You won’t go anywhere, as if you’re a human statue.
● You’ve got to get over your fear of starting eventually.
“Have no fear of perfection—you’ll never reach it.” says Salvador Dali. 38 Are you afraid? Why are you so afraid? Things not going the way you expect them to? Losing money? Whatever your fears might be, it’s time to get over it.
● 39
Ready, aim, fire! You’ve heard of the saying, right? Well, what happens if you spend all your time aiming, and not firing? You’ll never hit anything! Ready, fire, aim should be your approach. You might not get it right on the first shot, but you can adjust your aim as you go along.
● It’s better to make a mistake than do nothing at all.
I don’t like to make mistakes; you don’t like mistakes; nobody likes to make mistakes. But nobody’s perfect so it’s impossible not to make a mistake. As great as computers and smartphone are, even they can make mistakes! You can’t get away from it. And when you do make a mistake, what will you do? 40
A. Try to avoid making mistakes.
B. It’s better to learn—ready, aim, fire.
C. Learn from it and get, it right the next time.
D. You can adjust your actions along the way.
E. Yet I didn’t make that decision until 3 years ago.
F. Maybe that’s the reason why you’ve yet to get started up until now.
G. Thinking about something before you do it is a great quality to have.

When my daughters reached the third and fourth grades, I occasionally allowed them to walk to and from school alone if the weather permitted. One warm spring day, a little dog followed them home after school. It had short legs and long lovely ears, with a brown-colored coat. It was the cutest dog I had ever seen and the girls begged me to keep it.
The dog was barely twelve weeks old. It had no identification marks. I didn’t know what to do. I thought about running an advertisement but I really didn’t want to. It would break the kids’ hearts if someone should show up. Besides, its owners should have watched it more closely.
By the end of the week the dog was part of our family. It was very good with the girls. The following week something told me to check the lost-and-found part in the local newspaper. One particular advertisement jumped out at me and my heart beat with fear for what I read. Someone was begging for the return of a lost dog in the neighborhood. They sounded anxious. My hands shook.
Instead, I pretended I hadn’t seen the advertisement. I quickly put paper away in the drawer. I never said a word about it to the kids or my husband.
By now we had named the dog Molly. It followed the girls everywhere they went. But there was one problem bothering me: my conscience (良心). I knew in my heart I had to call that number in the paper and see if our Molly was the dog they were eagerly looking for. It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done.

写作 第二节
With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the phone. I dialed the telephone number in that advertisement and it was a woman. I asked her if she was seeking a little dog that had short legs and lovely long ears, with a brown-colored coat. On hearing my description, she said excitedly that the dog was just her lost one. Therefore, I asked her to come here to have a look. The next early morning, someone knocked on the door and I answered it.
I asked the woman to come in and she quickly hugged Molly tightly. Surprised and excited, she told me with Molly in her arms that she couldn’t sleep well without it and thanked us for keeping her lovely dog so well for these days. At the same time, I told the stories between my daughters and Molly and she offered an invitation to all of us to go to her room for playing with Molly. After that Molly became a bond between our two families to spread happiness.

Text 10
W: Finding an apartment is time-consuming and disappointing, but with a little preparation and most importantly, a lot of patience, you will get what you want. The first thing you need to do is make some time in your schedule. If you are going to find the apartment that fits your requirements, then unless you’re really lucky, you are going to have to spend a lot of time hunting. The next thing is to decide exactly what you want and how much you can afford. Think about what cities or neighborhoods you’d like to live in and what you’d like for your local neighborhood. Write down what features are important to you, such as parking and public transportation. Then you start hunting. Search every website you can find, and start going through the ads. It is probably best to start by picking out all the apartments that are within your price range and then check the location and traffic. Then make the call, but prepare yourself for disappointment. Apartments that look good on the Internet often turn out to be disappointing. And of course, you may find that all the really great apartments have just been taken.
