Jiaozi, also known as Chinese dumplings, is a must - have during holidays in Northern China. It dates back to ancient times.

Jiaozi is one of the most important foods in Chinese New Year. Since jiaozi is in the shape of ancient Chinese gold or silver ingots (银锭), it symbolizes wealth (象征着财富).

Traditionally, the members of a family get together to make dumplings on New Year's Eve. They may hide a coin in one of the dumplings. The person who finds the coin will be likely to have good luck. As the Spring Festival marks the start of a new year, people choose to eat jiaozi in the hope of having a good future in the coming new year.

Based on your taste, you can make different kinds of Chinese dumplings using different fillings. There is no set rule as to what makes dumpling fillings. They can be anything from vegetables, meat or seafood. Whatever the fillings are, the wrapping. () skill needs to be exquisite (精美的) to make jiaozi good - looking.

As China is a country with a vast territory (幅员辽阔), there are differences in different areas in ways of making jiaozi or even serving it. For example, dumpling wrappers are made with a rolling stick in Beijing and Hebei province, while in some parts of Inner Mongolia, wrappers are hand - pressed.

    36. Chinese people must have Jiaozi recently.

    37. Jiaozi is a symbol of wealth because of its shape.

    38. Chinese people eat Jiaozi in the New Year, hoping to have good future in the next year.

    39. We can use different fillings, such as coins, vegetables, meat or seafood, to make dumplings.

    40. Because China is so large that people make jiaozi in different ways.

On June 9, 1870, Charles Dickens died at the age of 58. The next day, a headline in The New York Times read: Death of the Great Novelist... Will Be Remembered by the People...

The headline was not overstating (夸大) the popularity of Dickens. Even today, the British novelist is loved by readers all over the world. Dickens created some unforgettable characters. You must have heard of or even read some of his novels: Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol and A Tale of Two Cities. A Tale of Two Cities has sold more than 200 million copies. Since 1897, there have been more than 300 film and TV adaptations (改编版本) of Dickens' works. A Christmas Carol alone has had nearly 50.

Natalie Mcknight is a literature professor who studies Dickens and his works. She explains why the novelist has remained so popular. One important reason, she says, is that Dickens wrote from his heart. He tried hard to produce emotional effects (情感效果) among his readers. In his works, he paid special attention to the little man at the bottom of society in the UK, which deeply mirrored the social reality at that time. A Christmas Carol, for example, was written to make every reader think about how they could make a difference to their society. People always enjoy works that make them laugh, cry and think. Many other 19th century novelists wrote entertaining (娱乐的) works. However, few of them worked as hard as Dickens to touch the readers deeply.

Dickens wrote about situations and emotions that still interest people today. He used his pen to fight social inequality and gave voice to the poor. His works led to many important social changes. Readers always enjoy seeing poor people rise and succeed.

This year marks the 152th year of Dickens' death. It's another chance to remember this great writer. Will you read or re - read some of his famous works?

The pole is often on fire and the dancer mustn't touch it! After a successful limbo, they put the pole lower and do it again. Some dancers can dance under a pole just twenty centimeters off the ground!

Mask (面具) dances are important for the Dogon people in Mali. Each village makes different masks. They are often huge and colorful. As the saying goes, Read ten thousand books and travel ten thousand miles, traveling is a very common thing in modern society. Almost everyone can go on a trip at any time as long as they want to, in fact, centuries ago, some famous people already traveled around China and they got a lot from exploration (探险).

Xu Xiake, a geographer and writer in Ming dynasty, spent more than thirty years on the road four hundred years. ago. With his mother's encouragement, Xu Xiake traveled around China. He met with many difficulties on the road. But he never stopped traveling and writing. Xu Xiake was on the road all his life, and his travel notes covered as much as his knowledge. His 600, 000 - word travel notes finally came out in 1776, about 135 years after his death. China Tourism Day is set on May 19th, the date when he started The Travels of Xu Xake.

Exams are a fact of school life for most people. Almost everyone worries about them and feels stressed, although they have prepared well.

A little stress caused by the exams is useful as it can sharpen your mind and motivate (激发) you to do well. But too much stress can stop you working to the best of your abilities, so it's important not to let it get out of control. Here are some ideas to help you.

The keys to being prepared for exams and avoiding unnecessary exam stress are knowing what you need to know, planning and preparing for your revision (复习), and giving yourself enough time to do it.

If you can, find a copy of the syllabus (摘要) for each subject. This tells you what you need to know and gives you the topics for revision.

Make a week - by - week revision timetable chart to display in your work space. Include the topics you need to cover for each subject.

About 12 weeks before your first exam, record the dates and times for each of your exams in your planner or diary and make a copy: to put on your wall at home.

During your exam, you want your brain to work at its very best, so build in relaxation time before bed, avoid late night revision sessions and try to go to bed early so you get enough sleep. If panic (惊慌) starts to creep in, try to replace your negative thoughts with more positive (积极的) ones, such as It's going to be OK. If you have difficulty answering a question, leave it and move on to the next one.

You are not alone while dealing with the stress. Share your worries and get help from others going through the same experience. Remember that there is life after exams. Things may feel stressful right now, but it won't last forever. And then the rest of your life. will still be there.
