For most kids, back-to-school time is usually bitter-sweet. The bitter part is saying goodbye to
carefree, unscheduled summer days. The sweet part is saying hello to a new school year and school
friends. This exciting time is fiilled with smells of new books, paper and pencils. Children might wear a
new set of clothes. And, of course, there are the fiirst day-of-school pictures that parents share with
family and friends. However, going back to school can also be a stressful time for children and families.
Every kid must make the transition from easy summer life to routines, schedules and homework.
Families will have financial concerns. Parents often need to pay school fees or to buy new school clothes,
sports equipment, musical instruments and school supplies. Back-to-school stress is different for different

ages. Younger children may feel scared to leave their families. Making new friends and dealing with
bullying can also cause stress for them. Older students may be stressed about their appearances, grades
and getting into a good college. However, parents, teachers and children can all help to make the
transition back to school easier. Mary Anne Aidala, an award-winning teacher, advises parents to focus
on the basics — let kids get enough sleep, eat healthy foods, and turn off electronics before bedtime. Lori
Bambina has been a teacher for 22 years. She teaches first grade in NY now. According to her, routines
and knowing what a teacher wants in the classroom help to reduce stress in kids. So, she focuses on the
class routine during the start of the new school year. “Well, for the students, I have my classroom set up
with a very clear system. So, I will introduce the system. Then I will revisit the system because at this
young age they enjoy routines. And that routine is very comforting and will not cause them stress if they
know exactly where things are located and what type of behavior is expected of them.”

Before COVID-19, there was widespread movement(运动) in the U.S.——shoppers in many
    American states were required to bring reusable bags to food stores or pay money to receive a bag;
restaurants in some areas were told not to use plastic takeout boxes. But COVID-19 has changed
    everything.
In just a few days, governors in Massachusetts and Illinois became strongly against the use of
    reusable cloth bags that were often brought to food stores; Oregon put off its new ban on plastic bags;
and cities from Bellingham, Washington, to Albuquerque, New Mexico have stopped plastic bag bans for
the time being. "Those who use reusable bags do not often wash them. People are frightened as COVID-
19 continues, so the environment is taking a back seat,"said Glen Quadros, owner of the Great
American Diner & Bar in Seattle, Washington.
There is an increase in takeout food and a ban on reusable cups and straws(吸管) at the few coffee
stores that remain open. Many environmentalists worry that COVID-19 would impede their efforts to
    reduce plastic products.
According to a study by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, the virus can stay on plastics for up
to three days. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it appears possible for a person to get
COVID-19 by touching something that has the virus on it and then touching their face. As a result, the
Plastics Industry Association says that one-use plastic bags are safer now.
California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, New York,Oregon and Vermont have all banned
plastic bags statewide. The Plastics Industry Association recently sent a letter to Alex Azar, who is head
of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services .The Association asked him to do something
about the plastic bag bans, saying that the rules are putting people at risk.
    28. What is the movement about in the U.S. mentioned in the text?
    A. Saving food and decreasing waste.
    C. Removing one-use plastic products.
    B. Making full use of plastic products.
    D. Encouraging cooking at home.

Facial recognition technology is already widely used by governments and some advertising
companies. The technology uses machine learning tools to search for faces in an attempt to identify
    people.
In a recent study scientists announced they had developed machine learning tools to track the faces
of individual wild chimpanzees (黑猩猩) .Dan Schofield said that the system was developed to improve
the quality of information collected about chimpanzees in the wild over a long period of time.
"For species like chimpanzees, which have complex social lives and live for many years, getting
snapshots of their behavior from short-term field research can only tell us so much," Schofield said.
The researchers wanted to get a more complete understanding of the lives of the chimpanzees by
studying them over several generations. But doing this would have required searching through hundreds
of hours of video recordings of chimpanzees in the wild.
The researchers recorded the activities of a group of chimpanzees that lived in the West African
nation of Guinea. A facial recognition computer model was trained using more than 10 million images of
the animals. The model was then used to search, recognize and track individual chimpanzees. The system
was able to identify individual chimpanzees correctly about 92 percent of the time. It successfully
identified the animals’ sex 96 percent of the time.
The study included an experiment with humans to see how they could perform against the machine
learning system in making identifications. The human persons were able to correctly identify individual
chimpanzees about 42 percent of the time. The machine learning tool was much faster at completing the
experiment. Human experts took about 55 minutes, while the computer took only seconds.
The researchers say they are permitting other scientists to use the system for similar projects. They
hope the method will be used with other species to record animal behavior and monitor different animal
    populations in the environment.
    32. What can we infer from Schofield’s words?
A.Chimpanzees like to get snapshots too.
    B. Short-term field research provides more information.
    C.Researching chimpanzees needs more information.
    D. Chimpanzees can live as long as humans.
    33. What does the underlined word “this” refer to?
    A.Studying chimpanzees over several years.
    B. Understanding the lives of the chimpanzees completely.
    C. Getting snapshots of chimpanzees’ behavior.
    D. Recording the chimpanzees in the wild.
    34. What did the experiment with humans prove in the study?
    A. Humans can't identify the animals’sex correctly.
    B. Machine learning tools take a little more time in identification.
    C. The machine learning system is more effective.
    D. Humans make more accurate identifications.
    35. What is the best title for the text?
    高三英语三诊第 5页(共 8页)

    A. Facial recognition for animals is becoming popular
    B. Facial recognition is helping animals live in the wild
    C. Facial recognition plays a role in raising animals
    D. Facial recognition is used to identify and follow animals
    第二节(共 5小题;每小题 2分,满分 10分)
    根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选
    项。
Marketing research can give a business a picture of what kinds of new products and services may
bring a profit. By researching the answers to specific questions, small-business owners can learn
    36
whether they need to change their package design or adjust their delivery methods.
    37
Failure to do market research before you begin a business venture or during its operation is like
driving a car from Texas to New York without a map or street signs. You have to know which direction to
travel and how fast to go. It will also tell you when they are most likely and willing to purchase
    38
your goods or use your services.
When you conduct marketing research, you can use the results either to create a business and
marketing plan or to measure the success of your current plan. That's why it’s important to ask the right
questions, in the right way, of the right people.
    39
The goal of primary research is to gather data from analyzing current sales and the effectiveness of
current practices. Primary research also takes competitors’plans into account, giving you information
    aboutyour competition.
    40
With secondary data, you can identify competitors, establish benchmarks(标准) and identify
targets. Your targets are the people who fall into your targeted population:people who live a certain
lifestyle, exhibit particular behavioral patterns or fall into a predetermined age group.
    A. Research, done poorly, can lead a business in the wrong direction.
    B. No small business can succeed without understanding its customers.
    C. Sometimes they even consider offering additional services accordingly.
    D. A market research plan is like a map indicating where your customers are.
    E. Relying on the published work of others doesn't give you the full picture.
    F. It can also tell companies whether they are meeting their customers’needs.
    G. The goal of secondary research is to analyze data that has already been published.

    One possible version

    Dear Johnson,
I’m sorry to learn that you are suffering from insomnia. It's nothing serious. There are
some good ways to deal with this problem.
Firstly, you should handle the stress that causes insomnia. If you relieve your stress,
you may get back to a regular sleep schedule. Secondly, why not take a warm bath or soak
your feet in warm water before going to bed? It's a great way to relax your body. Finally,
take it easy and don't be too anxious. A carefree attitude is of great importance to a good sleep.
I hope my suggestions would be helpful to you.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
