Teaching procedures Step 1 Warming up & Revision 1. Greet the class. 2. Make dialogues with the Ss. Ask pairs of the Ss to the front of the class to offer performances of the conversations. Help the Ss use as much as possible sentences which have been learned. 3. Practise the alphabet around the class. Point to a child. He/She says the first letter. Then point to another child. He/She says the next letter, etc. Speed up the activity as much as you can. Ask any child who makes a mistake to stand up. They can then sit down the next time they are able to answer correctly. Step 2 Presentation & Practice 1. Let’s chant. Ss listen and repeat the chant. 2. Present 4 pictures, cap, pig, desk and duck. Ask the questions What’s this/ that/ it? Elicit the answers. 3. Point to the letter and ask What letter is this? Elicit the name of the letter. 4. Ask the Ss What sound does this letter make in the word cap? Elicit the sound [æ]. 5. Repeat this procedure with the other letters. Use the same way to elicit the remaining letters and sounds [ i ], [e ], [ʌ], [ɔ]. 6. Ask the Ss draw a line to match the letters to the corresponding picture. 7. Draw Ss’ attention to P69. Lead the Ss to spell and write down the words. Then check the answers. 8. Learn to sing a song Short vowel song. A. Draw the Ss’ attention to the page. B. Ask the Ss to read the words, and then listen to the song. C. Make sure the Ss understand the meaning of the song. D. Teach the Ss the song line by line. E. Repeat the song 3 times. Encourage the Ss to make appropriate movements as they sing. Step 3 Consolidation & Extension 1. Lead the Ss say or write more words that have the short vowels. Praise the Ss who write more. 2. Do exercises. A. Read and find the different one. B. Listen and write. Step 4 Summary & Homework 1. Check the difficulties .Focus on the words and sounds. 2. Do homework Write more words that has the short vowel. |
