2021年高考英语精品试题专题13 阅读表达 训练5一、阅读理解题 Saya, the teacher, does not mind being pinched (掐), or if the students play in class: she's a robot designed to show children that science and technology can be fun subjects. Saya, a life-like female who started her career as a robot receptionist at Japanese companies and was then reprogrammed to teach, gave a lesson to fifth-graders at Tokyo's Kudan Elementary School after being carried to the podium in the classroom. Professor Hiroshi Kobayashi, who built Saya, says she's not meant to replace human teachers, but to bring the joy of technology to children. "We're not looking at making something that will take over from teachers. Our main reason for building this robot is to use new technology to teach children about technology," he said. "But Saya may be able to help in some small schools and in the countryside where there's a shortage of teachers, which means few teachers there can teach these lessons, "he added, "children there don't have the chance to come into contact with new technology. So we hoped to be able to develop this robot to be remotely controlled to teach these classes." Many of the children were attracted by Saya, and didn't take their eyes off her throughout the lecture. When class was over, some students pinched her. "It's so much more fun than regular classes," said 10-year-old Nanako Iijima. Saya aroused the children's curiosity about technology and science, which made her quickly popular. The children's human teacher, however, was not as impressed with the robot as her students. "I am impressed that they've got robots to go this far, but on the other hand they still have a long way to go before they can make it a truly robotic teacher," Akito Fukuda, the school's science teacher said. Although the robots like Saya are not widespread in Japan, the advantages of the robotic teacher are absolutely the driving force to make it in high yield soon.(1) What was Saya first designed to do? (No more than 25 words) A Dutch artist and environmentalist has brought a project that shows how tiny smog particles (雾霾颗粒) can be made into jewellery like rings to China. Dann Roosegaarde is attempting to raise public awareness of cleaning the air. He has made a Smog Free Tower, which began to operate in September, 2015, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and he brought it to China in September, 2016. The pollutants are collected from the 7-meter-high tower before being processed and condensed into cubes (压缩成立方体) measuring 4 mm to 5 mm. The cubes, which can be used to make rings, are not for sale but have been presented as gifts to supporters at Kickstarter, a large crowdfunding site where Roosegaarde collected more than 110,000 euros for his tower project. "I bring the project to China because Beijing is where I got the inspiration," he said. He said he visited the city years ago and saw the huge difference in environmental conditions on good days and smoggy days, which gave him the inspiration for the project. "But it is more than just cleaning the air. I hope the project develops public awareness of environmental protection." He said his tower project would travel around the world, visiting cities such as Paris, Los Angeles and Mexico City. Roosegaarde said his tower would suck in (吸入) polluted air like a huge vacuum cleaner, before removing the pollutant particles and returning clean air. "It has performed well in reducing air pollutants by 75 to 80 percent in a surrounding area," Roosegaarde said. Liu Guozheng, secretary-general of the China Forum of Environmental journalists, said. "The Smog Free Tower is designed to be abandoned eventually, because the ultimate goal is to improve air quality to the extent that the tower will be useless." "The tower works as a warning and reminder for people to take part in smog control efforts." Liu said.(1) What's the main purpose of Dann Roosegaarde's tower project? (No more than 7 words) (2) What's the importance of Beijing, China to Dann Roosegaarde? (No more than 13 words) (3) What will the Chinese government do with the Smog Free Tower in the end? (No more than 2 words) (4) What is the meaning of the underlined part in the second last paragraph? (No more than 5 words) (5) What do you think about dann Roosegaarde? Put it in your own words. (No more than 20 words) Twenty-five years ago, most young Britons wanted a career in law, to be a doctor, or, if they were creatively minded, to take up singing. But today, things stand differently. According to a survey by Tesco Mobile, a UK telecoms company, the "dream job" of young people aged between 16 and 25 in the UK is a video blogger, or "vlogger". The survey, carried out among 1,002 people, found that as much as 40 percent of them put vlogger as their number one choice on a list of ideal careers. The factors contributing to this change is undoubtedly the internet and, as everyone will admit, social media, which have made it so much easier to reach a global audience, without having to enter a career in show business the traditional way. "In years gone by, the biggest stars were groomed and trained by the Hollywood studios; now, anyone with a computer camera can become an icon," a Tesco Mobile spokesperson said in a news release. "From fashion to comedy, these self-made stars document and broadcast their hobbies to an adoring fan-base (粉丝团). Vloggers are the big stars of today because they are normal people interacting with their fans about everyday life." "Generations of today have so many more options and opportunities than older age groups and the internet and development of technology have aided that growth," Phil Samuels, spokesperson for UK tech retailer Currys, told the Mirror. However, what people see is only the bright side of being a vlogger and they ignore the fact that only those who are successful gain fame and fortune. For every success there are a hundred others who never get off the starting block. There are the dreams that come true and the dreams that are destined to remain dreams. This is why despite the popularity of vloggers, some young people chose to follow careers that don't necessarily earn them fame, but allow them to make good use of the internet to share their hobbies. Young Israeli David Leshaw, for example, runs a business called the Finishers Club. It's an online platform for runners to keep a record of their races. He told the career website Zippia that his job allows him to express his passion, and is always a learning experience. And that's enough for him.(1) According to the survey, what is the most appealing job for British young people? (no more than 5 words) (2) What make it convenient for a vlogger to reach the fan-base? (no more than 8 words) (3) What does the underlined word "document" in the second paragraph mean? (no more than 2 words) (4) What is the main idea of Paragraph 4? (no more than 15 words) (5) Do you want to be a vlogger? Why or why not? (no more than 25 words) It really is possible to be bored to death, researchers from the Department of Epidemiology (流行病学) and Public Health at University College London have found. Researches showed that those who live boring lives are more likely to die young. People who complain of "high levels" of tedium in their lives are at double the risk of dying from heart disease than those who find life interesting. Of more than 7,000 civil servants who were studied over 25 years, those who said they were bored were nearly 40 percent more likely to have died by the end of the study than those who did not. People who are bored are more likely to form unhealthy habits like drinking, smoking, taking drugs and getting addicted to the Internet, which can cut their life-expectancy. The researchers also found that women are more than twice as likely to suffer boredom as men. Younger employees and those with duller jobs were also found to be easier to feel bored. Martin Shipley, who wrote the report published in the International Journal of Epidemiology, said, "The findings on heart disease. show there was enough evidence to say there is a link with boredom. It is important that people find outside interests to keep off boredom, rather than turn to drinking or smoking. For many people who are uninspired by life, or maybe have a tendency towards depression, the way out of it is to change their focus away from themselves and on other people. Researchers said those who are bored should lift their spirits by thinking more about the needs of others. They should think what they can do for their family, their friends, their colleagues, or even their boss.(1) What's the main idea of the text? (No more than 10 words) (2) Why are people who are bored more likely to die young? (No more than 15 words) (3) What's the meaning of the underlined word "tedium" in Paragraph 1? (No more than 2 words) (4) Who are easier to get bored according to the research? (No more than 10 words) (5) In your opinion, what should people who feel bored do to keep away from boredom?
