    一、 阅读理解(共4题)
    1. China is a big country, and there is no simple answer to the question "When is the best time to visit China? " There are two best times to visit China, depending on your preference.
    October
Things to do: hike on the Great Wall, photography tour
Places to visit: Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai, Guilin,Jiuzhaigou, Chengdu
The best time to go to China is early autumn (October).
Most of China has warm temperatures, and the summer rains have stopped (apart from around HongKong and Sanya) so it's pretty dry. The autumnn colours are also amazing. It is quiet at tourist attractions for most of the month, as the summer holiday travel crowds have gone. But try to avoid October 1st -7th, which is the Chinese National Day holiday, as attractions, transport and hotels are packed with Chinese tourists and prices go up a lot.
    Late Spring (April to May)
Things to do: appreciate flowers, Li River cruise, ethnic festivals
Places to visit: Beijing, Xi'an, Guilin, Huangshan, GuiZhou, Zhangjiajie
The second-best time to travel to China is probably in April and May,when the flowers are in bloom and the temperatures are warming up. In late spring, temperatures across China are getting into the 20s(℃),except the extreme northwest and northeast. While the North of China is still dry, the summer rains have already begun in the South. This could actually improve the view in the form of mountain fog in mountainous areas like the Li River and the Yellow Mountains.
Ethnic festivals in GuiZhou are concentrated in April and May, such as the Sisters' Meal Festival. If you are interested in Miao and Dong ethnic cultures, this is a good time to visit.
Travel prices are average: cheaper than June to October, but more expensive than the lower season from November to March.

1.【小题题干】Which time is best if you want to attend the ethnic festivals in GuiZhou? ______

    A.April 25th.

    B.June 17th.

    C.October 1st.

    D.November 9th.

(2).【小题题干】Which are the best places to visit in both October and late spring? ______

    A.Beijing and Zhangjiajie.

    B.Shanghai and GuiZhou.

    C.Xi'an and Guilin.

    D.Huangshan and Jiuzhaigou.

(3).【小题题干】Why is late spring the best time to visit Huangshan? ______

A.Because the summer rains haven't come yet.

B.Because the wet weather adds to its beauty.

C.Because there are several special festivals there.

D.Because the prices are the lowest of the year.
    2. I was in the middle of the Amazon(亚马逊) with my wife, who was there as a medical researcher. We flew on a small plane to a faraway village. We did not speak the local language, did not know the customs, and more often than not, did not entirely recognize the food. We could not have felt more foreign.
We were raised on books and computers, highways and cell phones, but now we were living in a village without running water or electricity It was easy for us to go to sleep at the end of the day feeling a little misunderstood.
Then one perfect Amazonian evening, with monkeys calling from beyond the village green, we played soccer. I am not good at soccer, but that evening it was wonderful. Everyone knew the rules. We all spoke the same language of passes and shots. We understood one another perfectly. As darkness came over the field and the match ended, the goal keeper, Juan, walked over to me and said in a matter-of-fact way, "In your home, do you have a moon too?" I was surprised.
After I explained to Juan that yes, we did have a moon and yes, it was very similar to his, I felt a sort of awe(敬畏) at the possibilities that existed in his world. In Juan's world, each village could have its own moon. In Juan's world, the unknown and undiscovered was vast and marvelous. Anything was possible.
In our society, we know that Earth has only one moon. We have looked at our planet from every angle and found all of the wildest things left to find. I can, from my computer at home, pull up satellite images of Juan's village. There are no more continents and no more moons to search for, little left to discover. At least it seems that way.
Yet, as I thought about Juan's question,I was not sure how much more we could really rule out. I am,in part, an ant biologist, so my thoughts turned to what we know about insect life and I knew that much in the world of insects remains unknown. How much, though? How ignorant(无知的) are we? The question of what we know and do not know constantly bothered me.
I began collecting newspaper articles about new species, new monkey, new spider…, and on and on they appear. My drawer quickly filled. I began a second drawer for more general discoveries: new cave system discovered with dozens of nameless species, four hundred species of bacteria found in the human stomach. The second drawer began to fill and as it did I wondered whether there were bigger discoveries out there, not just species, but life that depends on things thought to be useless, life even without DNA. I started a third drawer for these big discoveries. It fills more slowly, but all the same, it fills.
In looking into the stories of biological discovery, I also began to find something else, a collection of scientists, usually brilliant occasionally half-mad, who made the discoveries. Those scientists very often see the same things that other scientists see, but they pay more attention to them, and they focus on them to the point of exhaustion(穷尽),and at the risk of the ridicule of their peers. In looking for the stories of discovery, I found the stories of these people and how their lives changed our view of the world.
We are repeatedly willing to imagine we have found most of what is left to discover. We used to think that insects were the smallest organisms(生物),and that nothing lived deeper than six hundred meters. Yet,when something new turns up, more often than not, we do not even know its name.

    3. Heads up! Across the country, sports injuries are a safety concern for young athletes. Now,the American Medical Association (AMA) has a new set of guidelines aimed at protecting players from the danger of concussions-serious injuries caused by a blow to the head.
"By raising awareness of the serious risks associated with concussions and ensuring that the appropriate guidelines are in place,we can reduce the number of young athletes who may return to the game too soon, which can put their health at further risk," said AMA Board Member Jack Resneck Jr.,M. D.,in a statement.
The policy recommends that young athletes who may have a concussion be taken off the field as soon as possible. Then, they are only to return to their sport with a doctor's written approval. The policy also sets agespecific rules for health care professionals and athletic organizations in evaluating and caring for athletes who have concussions.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC),a concussion is a type of traumatic(创伤的) brain injury caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. This type of movement can cause the brain to bounce around or twist inside the skull (颅骨). It can damage brain cells and create chemical changes in the brain.
The CDC says that between 1.6 million and 3.8 million traumatic brain injuries caused by sports and recreationrelated activities occur in the U.S. every year. A study from the Center for Injury Research and Policy showed that as many as 40% of high school athletes return to playing before they should. The AMA's new guidelines should help to bring those numbers down.

    4. We've all been there: in a lift, in line at the bank or on an airplane, surrounded by people who are, like us, deeply focused on their smartphones or, worse, struggling with the uncomfortable silence.
What's the problem? It's possible that we all have compromised conversational intelligence. It's more likely that none of us start a conversation because it's awkward and challenging, or we think it's annoying and unnecessary. But the next time you find yourself among strangers, consider that small talk is worth the trouble. Experts say it's an invaluable social practice that results in big benefits.
Dismissing small talk as unimportant is easy, but we can't forget that deep relationships wouldn't even exist if it weren't for casual conversation. Small talk is the grease(润滑剂) for social communication, says Bernardo Carducci, director of the Shyness Research Institute at Indiana University Southeast. "Almost every great love story and each big business deal begins with small talk," he explains. "The key to successful small talk is learning how to connect with others, not just communicate with them."
In a 2014 study, Elizabeth Dunn, associate professor of psychology at UBC, invited people on their way into a coffee shop. One group was asked to seek out an interaction(互动) with its waiter; the other, to speak only when necessary. The results showed that those who chatted with their server reported significantly higher positive feelings and a better coffee shop experience. "It's not that talking to the waiter is better than talking to your husband," says Dunn. "But interactions with peripheral(边缘的) members of our social network matter for our well-being also."
Dunn believes that people who reach out to strangers feel a significantly greater sense of belonging, a bond with others. Carducci believes developing such a sense of belonging starts with small talk. "Small talk is the basis of good manners," he says.

1.【小题题干】What phenomenon is described in the first paragraph? ______

    A.Addiction to smartphones.

    B.Inappropriate behaviours in public places.

    C.Absence of communication between strangers.

    D.Impatience with slow service.

    A.Showing good manners.

    B.Relating to other people.

    C.Focusing on a topic.

    D.Making business deals.

(3).【小题题干】What does the coffee-shop study suggest about small talk? ______

    A.It improves family relationships.

    B.It raises people's confidence.

C.It matters as much as a formal talk.

    D.It makes people feel good.

(4).【小题题干】What is the best title for the text? ______

    A.Conversation Counts

    B.Ways of Making Small Talk

A boulder(巨石),as big as a house. That's how the guidebook described Giant Rock. Dad said it arrived here millions of years ago. I was finally going to see it, in snowshoes, with my two older cousins, my dad, and my uncle Don. I'd been snowshoeing before, and I liked the adventure of hiking through deep snow.
At the parking area, after putting on our snowshoes, we studied the map. Due to the geographical location, electrical devices are inaccessible here. The map is our only guide. "We start here," Dad said,"on the red trail(小路). Then we turn left onto the purple road. That's where Giant Rock is. " "Remember to stick together and don't wander off, guys," Uncle Don said.
The trail ran uphill alongside a stone wall. It was easy to follow because red markers were nailed to the trees and the snow had been packed down by other hikers. At the top of the hill, we turned onto the purple trail. We settled into a pattern, with Dad and everyone else in front and me in the back, crunching(嘎吱嘎吱地踩)through the snow. I saw lots of animal tracks - mostly deer, squirrel, and rabbit prints. As the trail wound down, my cousin Andrew said what I'd been thinking:"Will we ever reach Giant Rock?" My cousin Aiden smiled and turned to me, "Luke, do you think your dad invented this idea just to get us away from the TV for a while?" I laughed. "You never know."
Finally,we climbed a hill and saw the massive boulder sitting alone in the forest. It really is as big as a house! My cousins and I high-fived each other and jogged until we stood at the base, breathless. Standing in the boulders broad shadow, I noticed the sun had sunk lower.
"Let's head back," Dad said after a few minutes. "I here will be several crossroads on the way back. Guys, keep up with the team. "Soon we were crunch-crunch-crunching our way home. I was a little behind the group when we approached a crossroads. And I noticed a set of animal tracks I didn't recognize, so I followed them for a closer look."
Paragraph 1:I looked up when I suddenly realized how quiet it had gotten._________
Paragraph 2:As going worriedly,I heard voices, someone calling far away._________
    注意:
    (1)续写词数应为150左右;
    (2)请在答题卡的相应位置作答。
