If you're a gamer who's glued to ( 粘 在) your phone constantly, it could be time to ask for medical help. On June 18, the WHO officially listed “gaming disorder”as a mental illness, like drug or gambling( 骕 博)addiction.
"Video gaming is like a non-financial kind of gambling from a psychological point of view," Mark Griffiths, a professor from Nottingham Trent University in the UK, told the Associated Press. "Gamblers use money as a way of keeping score, while gamers use points."
However, playing your favorite game every now and then is no reason for you to be seen as the patient of this mental illness. People need to understand this doesn't mean every child who plays games is an addict, otherwise doctors will be flooded with requests for help.
But according to the WHO, if you lose control over your gaming habits and put gaming above everything else in life, you should be prepared to face serious problems. According to a study published by China Youth Day in July, about one in five young Chinese play online video games for at least four to five hours per day.
Thankfully, measures have been taken to address the problem, In April, the Ministry of Education issued a notice asking Chinese schools and parents to prevent students from becoming addicted to the Internet and games.
Other countries have also taken action. In 2011, South Korea passed a "shutdown law"to stop children under the age of16 from playing video games between the hours of midnight and 6 am. Meanwhile, in Japan, some mobile phones have a special mode for children that lets their parents control what games they can download and how long they can play them for.In the United States, the Entertainment Software Rating Board, a nonprofit organization, puts age restrictions on most games, meaning the children under a certain age are unable to buy them.

The first time I saw Carlos I would never have believed he was going to change my life. I had my arms full of books and I was rushing into the classroom when I ran into something solid. It was Carlos.
"My…. you're tall,"he said.
Of course, the class began to laugh. Angry, I walked to my seat without a word.
I glanced back to see if Reed was laughing with the rest. That would be the last straw. But Reed was studying chemistry and did not seem to be aware of anything else. I didn't know why I considered Reed my friend. Maybe just because he was a good two inches taller than 1.Anyway,every time I blew out my birthday candles and made a wish, it was for a date with Reed.
"Take that seat." Mr. McCarthy told the proud neweomer Carlos, pointing to the only empty one, in the back of the roo m.
Carlos smiled broadly. "But I need a couple of dictionaries." Again the class laughed, but now they were laughing with Carlos, not at him. He had been here only 10 minutes and already he had the m on his side.
It was the school elections that made me think of Carlos again. Reed Harrington was voted president and Carlos vice president."How come?" I kept asking myself. "How come this shrimp ( F) who's only been in town for a little over a month gets to be so popular?"
So on that morning, I stopped Carlos and said, "It doesn't seem to bother you- being short."
He looked up at me. "Of course I mind being short. But there isn't anything I can do about it.When I realized I was going to have to spend my life in this undersized skin, I was determined to make the best of it and focus on being myself."
"You seem to get along great,"I acknowledged. "But what about me? Nobody wants to date a girl taller than he is.""The trouble with you is you're afraid to be yourself. You're s mart. And you could be pretty. In fact, you might be more than pretty."

Research has shown that two-thirds of human conversation is taken up not with discussion of the cultural or political problems of the day, not heated debates about films we've just watched or books we've just finished reading, but plain and simple gossip(说闲话).
Language is our greatest treasure as a species, and what do we frequently do with it? We gossip. About others' behavior and private lives, such as who's doing what with whom, who's in and who's out and why; how to deal with difficult social situations involving children, lovers, and colleagues.
The reasons for people's preference for gossiping has become a heated topic recently. According to Professor Robin Dunbar, gossip is one of vital issues for human beings. He suggests that we don't spend two-thirds of our time gossiping just because we can talk, on the contrary, language evolved ( 进(化) specifically to allow us to gossip.
Dunbar arrived at his theory by studying the behavior of monkeys. By means of brushing the fur for each other, monkeys form groups with other individuals from whom they can get support when they encounter some kind of conflict within the group or attack fro m outside it.
As we human beings evolve from a particular branch of the animal family, Dunbar concludes that at one time in our history we did much the same. Grouping together made sense because the bigger the group, the greater the protection it provided; on the other hand, the bigger the group, the greater the stresses of living close to others. Brushing the fur helped to ease the pressure and calm everybody down.
But as the groups got bigger and bigger, the a mount of time spent in brushing activities also had to be extended to maintain its effectiveness. Clearly, a more efficient method was needed, and thus language evolved as a kind of verbal way which allowed humans to develop relationship with ever-larger groups by exchanging infor mation over a wider network of individuals than would be possible by one-to-one physical contact.
28. What do we do with language in most of the time?
A. We discuss about present cultural or political problems.
B. We comment on the films we've just watched.
C. We have a heated debated with friends.
D. We talk about other people's personal behaviors.
29. Why do humans like to gossip according to Dunbar?
A. Because they want to kill time.
B. Because they want to know more about others' private lives.
C.Because they are talkative.
D. Because they want to maintain relationship with groups.
30. How did Dunbar come up with his theory about language?
A. By studying the history of language.
B. By studying the behaviors of monkey.
C. By interviewing.
D. By studying the history of groups.

Steve was the most amazing person in all of Minneapolis, and he was my cousin. By the age of 19, Steve was a star baseball player at the University of Minnesota. I wanted to be exactly like him. So when Steve asked me to go with him on a spring fishing trip in northern Minnesota, I was excited!
After planning the trip, we gathered clothes and supplies, and began our great adventure. We reached the Superior National Forest in northern Minnesota by carly evening. On our way to the campsite, Steve pointed to a s mall house faraway in one of the mountains, saying that it was the ranger station (护林站) where the forester worked.
Finally, after a long walk, we reached the campsite and set up the camp as the sun was setting. Steve knew all the tricks of an experienced wilderness camper. After we gathered enough wood from the forest, he started the campfire using only stone and steel—no matches. For supper we feasted on freeze-dried beef, wild rice and pea soup. I ate greedily after all that work.
Tired enough, we climbed into our sleeping bags early and talked about our plans for fishing the next day. We were still talking quietly when a sudden north wind picked up; the temperature dropped, and it began to snow. Seve found a way to increase the temperature inside the tent He dragged a log (原木) from the forest to the opposite side of the campfire. Then he wrapped aluminum foil(铝箔) around the log. The heat from the fire reflected of the foil and into the tent. Son images of lake fish were filling my dreams.
The snow had stopped, but sometime later a powerful wind must have kicked up the flames of our dying fire. I was abruptly awakened by Steve. Our tent was on fire. Frightened, I ran out of the tent immediately. The tent collapsed(倒塌) with Steve inside. Without any thought of endangering myself, I reached into the burning tent and pulled him to the icy lake.Fortunately, we were not seriously hurt.

读后续写:(1×25-25分)
Possible version:
Para.1
Later, as we stood by the burning tent to keep warm, we considered our difficult situation. Our
campsite was in the deep of the forest, really far away from the highway. We were in the middle of nowhere, wearing only underwear, with our supplies burnt into ashes, including our cellphones. Even Steve, whoalways managed to tackle difficult issues, was unsure what to do next. The only thing we could do was just sitting in the cold air and wondering how to get out of the forest.
Para.2
Suddenly, we heard a noise in the forest. Anxiously we listened and stared into the darkness. A jeep appeared out of nowhere. A forester had spotted the light from the fire and had come to have a check. We jumped into the warm vehicle and the forester drove us to the ranger station, where we were given clothes and were able to call our parents. Steve and I had many more camping adventures from then on, but it was on this trip that Steve began to treat me more like a friend and equal, rather than a younger cousin. Our friendship continues to this day.

【TEXT10】
W: Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to look at the wide differences in family life between the rich and the poor in Victorian times. Let's begin with the upper classes. In Victorian times, the upper classes made up less than 3% of the population yet held more than 90% of the country's wealth. Most of their servants were very poorly paid but were always living in the homes of upper-class Victorian families,so they didn't have to pay for housing, food and clothing. The money which they did earn, they sent to their families. Many servants came from the countryside. Among them were cooks, cleaners, gardeners and so on. The family would also employ a child's nurse whose main role was to care for the children. She was responsible for teaching the children how to behave and taking care of them when they were ill.Nurses did not, however, educate the children. Generally, children from wealthy families didn't attend school outside the family home. Tutors would come to the house to do this. Now, the Victorian upper classes have the reputation of being quite cruel; but this wasn't always the case. They were also quite generous. Some schools were set up with money from the upper classes so that poor children could have some form of education. Additionally, most Victorian parents were very proud of their children. This goes against the common idea that parents were very strict with their children. In fact, the opposite was generally the rule. However, the situation for lower class families was very different. Let's have a look.
