These high-tech explratins have revealed lng-buried Mayan cities.
In recent years, lidar expsed an ancient city in western Mexic called Angamuc. Built by the Purepecha, wh were enemies f the Aztecs, Angamuc was a majr civilizatin in the early 16th century, befre Eurpeans arrived. “T think that this huge city existed in the heartland f Mexic fr all this time and nbdy knew it was there is kind f amazing”, says Chris Fisher, an archaelgist at Clrad State University wh led the team. “Yu are talking abut 40,000 building fundatins, which is abut the same number f building fundatins that are n the island f Manhattan,” says Fisher.
Archaelgists discvered signs f the buried city in 2017 and initially attempted t explre it using a traditinal apprach. In recent years, lidar expsed an ancient city in western Mexic called Angamuc. Built by the Purepecha, wh were enemies f the Aztecs, Angamuc was a majr civilizatin in the early 16th century, befre Eurpeans arrived. “T think that this huge city existed in the heartland f Mexic fr all this time and nbdy knew it was there is kind f amazing”, says Chris Fisher, an archaelgist at Clrad State University wh led the team. “Yu are talking abut 40,000 building fundatins, which is abut the same number f building fundatins that are n the island f Manhattan,” says Fisher.
Archaelgists discvered signs f the buried city in 2017 and initially attempted t explre it using a traditinal apprach.
