Billy didn’t mve away frm the sign. The DOC arrived later that afternn t pick up Billy, thugh they were surprised t see it n the beach. “It’s unusual fr a blue penguin t be ut in the pen n the beach during the day,” Anita Spencer, a DOC senir ranger, tld Stuff.
Billy was taken t the Christchurch Penguin Rehabilitatin Center after being retrieved frm the beach. Vlunteers believe the bird may actually be a female penguin, and is arund 2 mnths ld. The chick weighs a mere 550 grams, less than a standard basketball. A blue penguin shuld weigh arund 900 grams at this age. Mst little penguins grw up t weigh 1 kilgram.
The center will help the little penguin gain sme weight by feeding it fish juice, befre it’s set free int the cean.
