Tyler's Tweets
Tuesday, September 4, 1: 42 p.m. Still sitting in the airport in New York City. Been waiting three hours, but seems like FOREVER! |
Tuesday, September 4, 3:20 p.m. Just boarded the plane for London. My first trip abroad (not including a week in Mexico last year). I'm going to stay with my friend Dave for a few days in north London before I meet my host family. Dave lives in a place called "Chalk Farm". I don't get it-a farm in London? |
Thursday, September 6, 4:35 p.m. It's fun here, but kind of strange. Dave doesn't live on a farm. His family have a large apartment in a big old house. They call it a"flat". I’m learning fast. |
Friday, September 7, 10:30 a.m. Dave and I are hanging out together today. We're on a bus! Upstairs! Amazing! Just drove past Buckingham Palace. But they drive on the WRONG side of the road here. Crazy! Also, people say"cheers"all the time. Isn't that for making toasts(敬酒)? A guy just said it to me after I had let him pass. |
Saturday, September 8, 7:19 p.m. First night with my host family, the Wilsons. They seem very nice, but their house is a million-mile walk to the subway! (They call it "The Tube""here!) |
Saturday, September 8, 11:10 p.m. Big day tomorrow. Were visiting Shakespeare's hometown. He wrote plays hundreds of years ago. He's really famous. |

Dear Susannah, Last month, we moved to a new town. My parents quickly made friends with the people who live next door. They've got a son of about my age. He's friendly and invites me to do things with him. But the thing is, when we see other kids, he calls them names and makes terrible comments(评论). He wants me to join in, but I don't want to. What can I do? If I tell my parents, it'll be hard because they really like his parents. And to be honest, I haven t got many other friends yet. If I stop hanging out with him, maybe he'll start calling me names too. What should I do? Alan, Salisbury |
Dear Alan It's often difficult to make new friends when you move town, So it was wonderful that your new neighbors had a son your age and he wanted to be your friend. What a shame that you're finding it difficult to spend time with him. You don't say in your letter if you think you could be friends if his behavior(行为)was better. This is the first question you should ask yourself. If the answer is no, then maybe you'd better end the friendship now. Don’t worry--I'm sure you'll soon make lots of friends. However, if you think you could be friends, then you should tell him to stop doing so. If he's going to be a good friend, he'll listen to you. Finally, it's a good idea to talk to your parents. They’re the people who know you best and are often the best people to give you advice. Good luck! Susannah |

Have you ever dropped your phone in water? If so, you're not alone--a third of people throw away their phones because of water damage (毁坏). Well, I can't promise anything. but today I' m going to tell you how to save a wet phone.
First, you must get the phone out of the water as soon as possible. Every second it's in the water, the more likely It is to be too damaged to repair. So, don’t stand there shouting “Oh no!” Just save it right away.
Next, you must switch(打开或关掉) the phone off right away to stop water damaging the electrical circuit(电子电路). If it was off when it got wet you must leave it off. Switching it on at this point is the worst thing you could do.
Now, dry out the outside of the phone. Then gently shake the phone, so that any water inside has a chance to come out.
After that, you need to dry out the inside of the phone as much as possible. Get some uncooked rice and put it in a box or bag, and put the phone in the middle of the rice. Close the box or bag so that the air can't get in, and then leave it for about 48 hours. While it's drying out, you mustn't keep opening it to see what's happening. It takes time!
After 48 hours you can take it out and try switching it on. You might be lucky and find the phone is working perfectly! But, be careful! You should back up everything on your phone as soon as you can because there may still be a problem and it could stop working again later.
Anyway, good luck, and take care of your phones!
