He says ne prfessr ffered t d research with him, which eventually helped him realize he wanted t pursue a PhD in math.
"I was simultaneusly (同步) falling in lve with math as an actual career, taking all f these cllege math classes, while als trying t be the best ftball player I culd be," he remembers. Urschel says that ften invlved packing many things. "Like I was the persn wh was trying t take the 8 a.m. classes s I culd d all the ftball things and all the math things I needed t d in a day. S, why are peple s ften uncmfrtable with thinking f themselves as leaders? T explre this questin, we cnducted a series f studies with mre than 1,700 participants, and we cnsistently fund that the mre peple wrried abut the reputatinal risks f being a leader, the less likely they were t be identified as ne. Specifically, we identified three cmmn reputatinal fears: fear f seeming bssy, fear f seeming different and fear f seeming unqualified.
Many participants expressed cncern abut being seen as autcratic (专横的), bssy r dmineering if they were t take n a leadership rle. As ne interviewee put it, “I wuldn’t want t seem pushy, r that I take advantage f weak peple. I wuldn’t want t seem cld.” Interestingly, while much has been written n the use f negative wrds like "bssy" t describe female leaders, we fund that in ur studies, men and wmen were bth afraid f cming acrss in this manner.
The secnd cmmn cncern was that acting as a leader wuld result in being singled ut and receiving t much attentin fr being different frm thers — even if that attentin was psitive. One participant explained, "I dn’t want t be lked up t. I am cmfrtable leading, but at the same time I want t be n the same level as everyne else." Many peple wrry that if they becme leaders, they will have t sacrifice their sense f belnging within the grup.
Regardless f whether they actually saw themselves as qualified, many participants said that they were afraid that thers wuld view them as unfit fr leadership. As ne shared, "I knw peple ften assciate certain typical images with leadership rles, s that makes me smewhat uncmfrtable. A team in Nrway recently cnducted in-depth research n writing by hand and typing n a keybard.
The team invited 36 university students wh had t either write r type wrds displayed n a screen. The study participants used a digital pen t write in cursive (草书) n a tuch screen, and they used ne finger n a keybard t type. The researchers used a special cap with 256 sensrs. This cap was wrn by the students, and their brain activity was recrded fr five secnds each time they were asked t write r type.
"We shw that when writing by hand, brain cnnectivity patterns are far mre cmplex than when typewriting n a keybard," says Prfessr Audrey van der Meer, the team leader. "Such widespread brain cnnectivity is knwn t be imprtant fr memry frmatin and fr encding(编码) new infrmatin and, therefre, is beneficial fr learning." The researchers als nte that even thugh the participants used digital pens fr writing in the study, they believe the findings wuld be similar if the participants used an ink pen and paper.
"We've shwn that the differences in brain activity are related t the careful frming f the letters when writing by hand while making mre use f the senses. Since it's the mvement f the fingers carried ut when frming letters that prmtes brain cnnectivity, writing in print als has similar benefits fr learning as cursive writing," Audrey adds. "This als explains why children wh have learned t write and read n a tablet can have difficulty distinguishing between letters that are mirrr images f each ther, such as 'b' and 'd'. They haven't felt with their bdies what it feels like t prduce thse letters."
Cnsidering handwritten nte-taking is becming less cmmn in educatinal settings, the researchers advcate fr mre pprtunities fr students t write by hand. "There's sme evidence that students learn mre and remember better when taking handwritten lecture ntes, while using a cmputer with a keybard may be mre practical and realistic when writing a lng text r essay," Audrey cncludes.
12. What was the special cap used t d?
A.Measure the participants' brain activity.
B.Evaluate the participants' writing styles.
C.Tell the participants when t write r type.
D.Recrd the time the participants used t write.
13. What des paragraph 3 fcus n abut the study?
A.Its backgrunds.
B.Its equipment.
C.Its utcmes.
D.Its prcess.
14. What plays the key rle in strengthening brain cnnectivity?
A.Writing letters carefully by hand.
B.Frming the habit f taking ntes.
C.Recgnizing letters' mirrr images.
D.Learning t practice cursive writing.
15. What is Audrey's attitude twards handwritten nte-taking?

16.答案: B; A; D; G; F
Are they made entirely f gld, silver, and brnze? And what makes the Paris 2024 Olympic medals special?(它们是用金、银和青铜制成的吗?是什么让 2024 年巴黎奥运会的奖牌与众不同?)"可知,后文提出了与奥运奖牌相关的问题,故此空应与后文排比,同样设问,且根据文章第二段内容"The cncept f medals as we knw them tday first emerged at the 1896 Athens Games.(奖牌的概念首先出现在 1896 年雅典奥运会。)"
Hwever, slid gld medals were n lnger awarded after 1912.(然而,自 1912 年后,不再颁发纯金牌。)" As a result, the Internatinal Olympic Cmmittee later updated the regulatins regarding medal cmpsitin and design.(结果,后来国际奥委会更新了关于金牌成分和设计的规则。)"
Mdern gld medals are primarily cmpsed f 92.5% silver with a six- gram gld plating fr appearance.(现代金牌主要由 92.5%的银和六克镀金组成。)" They cntain at least 92.5% pure silver(它们含有至少 92.5%的纯银。)"
Fr instance, the 2012 Lndn Olympics medals featured the River Thames and Lndn skyline. Ri 2016 fcused n sustainability by using leftver mirrrs and X-ray plates.
