Smart TV Channels a Sense f Frustratin
The phenmenn f watching less r nt watching TV mirrrs a plunge in traditinal TV sales in recent years.
“I haven’t watched TV at hme fr almst five years.” The same sentiment is a true prtrayal f many Gen-Zers (Z世代,指出生在1995年至2010年之间的一代人) tday. In the past (21) entertainment ptins were limited, TV dminated. Nwadays, cmputers, mbile phnes and tablets, all f (22) ffer mre cntent, have vertaken TV in the viewing stakes(收视争夺赛).
“Watching less r nt watching TV (23) (be) the inevitable result f the diversificatin f entertainment fr yung peple. The prgrams ffered by the majr TV statins is increasingly unable t meet the needs f yung peple, and a few minutes f advertisements are added at every turn, (24) (make) it difficult t cmpete with mbile phnes and tablets,” says Li Dadi at Haige Business Watch, a public WeChat accunt (25) (dedicate) t business analysis.
The phenmenn mirrrs a plunge in traditinal TV sales in recent years. A reprt by All View Clud, a data analysis cmpany, says (26) dmestic TV sales in 2020 were 44.5 millin units, dwn 9.1 percent year-n-year, and sales revenue was 120.9 billin yuan ($19.1 billin), dwn 11.7 percent.
Hwever, nt watching traditinal TV des nt mean nt using the actual set. The current develpment f smart TV is nt just a tl fr watching prgrams n the bx. The three majr vide cntent prviders, Tencent Vide, iQiyi and Yuku, have all launched TV applicatins. Peple (27) als cast the cntent f their mbile phnes nt the TV at any time. Leaning n the sfa and watching a 55-inch big screen is still much mre cmfrtable than lying n the bed with a 6.1-inch mbile phne.
Hwever, cmpared with the rapid develpment and prfit grwth f internet smart TV, cmplaints abut a decline in service experience (28) (cme) t light.
A wman’s cmplaint ver her newly bught TV set eched acrss Chinese scial media recently. In her vide, psted n Duyin, she says mst peple watching TV nw are elders, and that a TV cannt be turned n (29)
tw remte cntrls at least. After she finally turned it n, advertisements ppped up and lasted fr mre than 10 secnds. The varius charging apps, all required t be purchased t allw fr viewing, made the experience wrse. Withut a VIP membership, there came anther 70-secnd advertisement (30) she culd finally watch a prper TV series. “I miss the simple TV set f my childhd,” she lamented.

    New Planet Culd Hld Life
Many scientists have nw stpped asking if there is life n ther planets—instead, they’re just trying t wrk ut where it is. Nw, researchers think they have fund a pssible lcatin, a 31 planet given the catchy name f TOI-715 b.
TOI-715 b was discvered by TESS, a telescpe wned by the US ce agency NASA. The planet is 32 as a super-Earth, althugh this just means it’s bigger than Earth but smaller than ice giants such as Neptune(海王星) r Uranus(著名演员星). It lies 137 light years away frm ur planet. This means that if yu were 33 at the speed f light (186,000 miles per secnd), it wuld take yu 137 years t reach it. This may seem like a very lng way away, but because the universe is s huge it’s 34 quite clse.
The newly discvered planet is abut ne and a half times as wide as Earth and is mving arund a type f star called a red dwarf. The distance between this star and TOI-715 b is much shrter than between Earth and the Sun but because red dwarfs are smaller and cler than ur Sun, it culd be a(n) 35 temperature t Earth.
This means that TOI-715 b culd perhaps be the right temperature t 36 liquid water, and scientists believe that this is essential t the 37 f life (at least in the frm that humans knw it). Just like Earth, the planet is nt t ht r t cld. Hwever, the pssibility f water depends n ther factrs t, such as the planet’s 38 .
Astrnmers are planning t study TOI-715 b clser using NASA’s pwerful James Webb ce Telescpe. Frtunately, the planet nly takes 19 days t rbit the star. This means it can be studied mre easily, as it 39 mves int the view f telescpes. 40 , there may als be anther Earth-sized planet in the same system f planets where TOI-715 b lies, althugh scientists haven’t been able t cnfirm it yet.

“It’s almst a mral duty that museums shuld be free,” said Glenn Lwry, directr f the Museum f Mdern Art (MOMA) in 2002, when a ticket t MOMA cst $12. In Octber MOMA started charging $30, the latest in a series f price 41 invlving the Metrplitan Museum, the San Francisc Museum f Mdern Art and s n.
Higher energy and labur csts have pushed up ticket prices in Eurpe, t. Prices have remained 42 nly in Asia and the Middle East, where museums are yunger and state funding is especially generus.
Ticket fees may seem high, particularly in destinatin cities where turists are ____43____ t be discuraged by spending a few mre dllars. But whatever museums 44 , it is nt cvering their perating csts. The Assciatin f Art Museum Directrs reprted in 2018 that ticket sales accunted n average fr just 7% f ttal 45 at American art museums. Memberships cntributed anther 7%. The 46 f budgets usually cme frm charitable dnatins, grant sand retail peratins.
Eurpean museums are less 47 admissins fees, because they are ften heavily subsidized (补助) by gvernments. All natinal institutins in Britain ffer free admissin, as d mst state-run museums in China while in America sme 30% are free. Sme bservers have repeated Mr Lwry’s call fr museums t stp charging fr 48 entirely.
49 prices g against museums’ gal f sharing art with a mre diverse public. They culd als speed up the already steep decline in the share f Americans attending museums and galleries.
Declining public interest is a challenge fr institutins that rely heavily n public supprt. Thse wh chse nt t visit a museum tday may be the peple wh 50 gvernment subsidies r refuse t write persnal cheques as spnsrs in a few years. Thse wh spend time inside museums’ galleries are mre likely t grasp their richness and want t 51 their wn riches in them.
Yet significantly reducing csts may nt actually d much t 52 new audiences either. If tickets were free, “peple wh typically cme anyway might cme mre ften. 53 that, yu’re nt really changing yur demgraphic (观众结构), says an ecnmist wh studies pricing in the arts. He 54 museums t the best American university: Harvard culd affrd t make tuitin free fr all but many wealthy students wh d nt need the gift wuld be amng the biggest beneficiaries (受益者). As museums thrughut the West debate what price is right, mst are unlikely t cnclude the answer is 55 , “mral duty” r nt.

This summer was special fr us, as the pandemic had separated ur family fr three years. Althugh the digital age has allwed frequent cmmunicatin despite ur distance, his warm embrace is still mre meaningful and better cnnects us.
I still remember the mment I saw my brther cming ut frm the arrival gate. Thrugh my lens, I sptted him amng all the anxius passengers. He was taller and slimmer and a little bit sun-tanned. His eyes were eagerly searching fr the familiar faces. I waved bth f my arms at him, screaming ut f pleasure. He fund me and everyne else. He hpped ecstatically and gallped like a pny tward us and tried his best t bring my parents and grandparents int his arms. My camera captured the bear hug that everyne had lnged fr fervently fr three years.
I’ve taken many phts f my family, but this ne is the best in my heart, nt fr its artistic quality but fr the verwhelming emtins and the lve between family members. I appreciate yur time reading my stry and cnsidering my picture. Wish the exhibitin a great success!

The “dn’ts” can be self-fulfilling because peple uncnsciusly fllw their predictins and finally cause them t happen.
Research shws a mental image fires the nerve system the same way as actually ding smething. That means when a glfer tells himself, “Dn’t hit the ball int the water.” His mind sees the image f the ball flying int the water. Therefre, befre ging int any stressful situatin, fcus nly n what yu want t happen.
I asked the lawyer again hw she wanted t appear at her first trial. This time she said: “I want t lk self-assured.” T her, a self-assured figure meant mving cnfidently arund the curt rm, using cnvincing bdy language and raising her vice. LYING ON YOUR BACK MAKES YOU SNORE MORE

Snring, namely breathing nisily, is caused by airflw being restricted thrugh the bdy’s airways during sleep. When yu lie n yur back, gravity pulls tissues that surrund yur airways dwnwards, narrwing them. As air passes thrugh the passage thrugh the nse, it causes tissue t vibrate (振动) with every breath and can create a snring sund. When yu sleep n yur side this tissue desn’t mve dwnwards, pening up the airways s and reducing the vlume f snring.
