Biss turned t a type f phtgraphy that invlves taking clse-up pictures f small things, like flwers r bugs. His pictures shw the insects in all their wnderful, micrscpic detail. OceanGate Expeditins, which perated the submersible, gave a statement f its wn cnfirming the deaths.
Five men were n bard: the British billinaire Hamish Harding, Shahzada Dawd and his 19-year-ld sn Suleman, frmer French navy diver Paul-Henri Nargelet, and OceanGate CEO Stcktn Rush.
The Titan submersible, a 21-ft-lng vessel, set ff Sunday t explre the remains f the Titanic lcated nearly 13,000 feet underwater, hundreds f miles ff the cast f Nrth America.
But after an hur and 45 minutes int the expeditin, the Titan lst cmmunicatins with its mthership at the surface.
Eight hurs passed befre OceanGate cntacted the Cast Guard, which launched a wide-ranging rescue effrt that lasted until Thursday.
Hping the vessel was still intact, Cast Guard fficials estimated the submersible had 96 hurs f breathable xygen when it first left fr its destinatin. That deadline passed withut reslutin n Thursday mrning, thugh the wreckage was lcated later that day.
Evidence shws that the implsin tk place within hurs f the submersible setting ff, meaning the passengers wuld have been dead befre anybdy really started lking fr them.
Hpes were raised n Wednesday after searchers said they detected a big sund in the general search area. But it was a false lead. The Cast Guard said n Thursday there didn’t seem t be any cnnectin between the nise and the lcatin n the sea flr.

The Arctic(北极) is heating up at a breakneck speed cmpared with the rest f Earth. And new analyses shw that the regin is warming even faster than scientists thught. Over the last fur decades, the average Arctic temperature increased nearly fur times as fast as the glbal average, researchers reprt in Cmmunicatins Earth & Envirnment.
And that’s just n average. Sme parts f the Arctic Ocean, such as the Barents Sea between Russia and Nrway’s Svalbard Archipelag, are warming as much as seven times as fast, meterlgist Mika Rantanen f the Finnish Meterlgical Institute in Helsinki and clleagues fund. Previus studies have tended t say that the Arctic’s average temperature is. increasing tw t three times as fast as elsewhere, as humans cntinue causing the climate t change.
T calculate the true pace f the accelerated warming, a phenmenn called Arctic amplificatin(放大), the researchers analyzed bservatinal data frm 1979 t 2021. Glbally, the average temperature increasing ver that time was abut 0.2℃ per decade. But the Aretic was warming by abut 0.75℃ per decade.
“Even the best climate mdels are nt ding a great jb f reprducing that warming,” Rantanen said. The inability f the mdels t realistically simulate past Arctic amplificatin calls int questin hw well the mdels can prject future changes there.
It’s nt clear where the prblem lies. One issue may be that the mdels are struggling with crrectly reprducing the sensitivity f Arctic temperatures t the lss f sea ice. Disappearing snw and ice, particularly sea ice, is ne big reasn why the Arctic is warming at this speed. The bright white snw and ice create a reflective barrier that bunces incming radiatin frm the sun back int space. But pen cean waters r bare rcks absrb that heat, raising the temperature.
12.Which f the fllwing can best describe the Arctic temperature?
A.It has cme t its peak.B.It has stpped increasing.
C.It is becming as high as the glbal average.D.It is increasing faster than ther regins.
13.Hw did the researchers find ut the true speed f Arctic warming?
A.By referring t a thery.B.By cncluding different views.
C.By analyzing previus data.D.By mnitring the temperature change.
14.What can we knw frm the last tw paragraphs?
A.The climate mdels are ut f date.
B.Snw and ice absrb mre heat than sea water.
C.It’s hard fr the climate mdels t crrectly predict the future Arctic temperature.
D.It’s clear hw Arctic temperatures reacted t the lss f sea ice.
15.Where is the text prbably taken frm?
A.A research paper.B.A travel brchure.
C.A gegraphy textbk.D.A cmputer magazine.
