Ajay Gupta suffered from polio (小儿麻痹症) when he was six months old. However, seeing his father and grandfather run businesses aroused a deep sense of curiosity within Ajay to explore entrepreneurship.、
While sending his daughter to playschool, he realized there was a gap in the quality of education provided. That’s when the idea of starting a playschool chain struck him. He launched Bachpan Play School in 2004 using his personal savings. Starting with one branch in Delhi, today the school has scaled up to 1,100 branches across India.
According to Ajay, what is unique about Bachpan’s story is the impact it has been able to create across Tier Il and Tier III cities in India. “Education institutes seem crowded in big cities, but when you move away from them, the case is different,” says Ajay. Furthermore, in the smaller cities, many schools were established around 40 years ago, and they lacked quality.
Ajay did not set out to penetrate (渗透) Tier II and Tier III cities exactly. His mission was to make preschool education more accessible and standardized. “I did not want Bachpan Play School to be a place where you send your kid for two months,” he says. “We made clear guidelines for teachers and syllabuses (教学大纲) for the kids monthly and annually.” Ajay adds that the particular curriculum, design, books, and well-thought-out strategy along with professional training are what shapes the core of Bachpan Play School chain.
As offline classes shifted to online ones during the pandemic, Ajay’s company launched Bachpan Live platform in April 2020. It also launched Bachpan Live app to offer live classes, online books, and more.
Since its launch, the platform has witnessed about 65,000 downloads. Ajay says, “The team has to consistently work towards improving the platform as parents of today have become very demanding. You cannot sell them anything. They want to see quality programs.”
24.What did Ajay realize when he sent his daughter to playschool?
- There was a gap between his daughter and him.
- His daughter was not satisfied with her playschool.
- He could make a big profit by running a playschool.
- Some children couldn’t have access to quality education.
25.What is special about Bachpan Play School?
- It is not very competitive in big cities.
- It has improved education quality in small cities.
- It is financially supported by the government.
- It is specially designed for disabled children.
26.What did Ajay do to promote preschool education?
- He employed experienced teachers.
- He designed a two-month course for kids.
- He made preschool education more formal.
- He stressed the role of preschool education in society.
27.What does Ajay expect Bachpan Live platform to do?
- Meet parents’ expectations. B. Invite kids to attend online classes.
- Replace offline classes in the future. D. Share more books and classes online.

Architects have long turned to the past for inspiration. In this age of concrete and steel, however, they’re more likely to look for aesthetic influence than technical know-how. But an ancient Chinese construction technique called dougong is a remarkable exception.
Consisting of a series of wooden brackets (支架) with no nails or fasteners, it is 500 years old and commonly found in Chinese architecture, such as the Forbidden City in Beijing. Many structures built during the Tang and Song dynasties featured “curtain walls” which were non-load-bearing. As a result, the unsupported wood shouldering the weight might break. Designers needed a technique which would more regularly spread the burden across their structures. Their solution was dougong.
Engineering has come a long way since the ancient Chinese building technique was fashion. But there’s a timeless quality to it. Modem designers in many areas are adopting it to produce amazing and stable work of architecture. Among them is Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, who used dougong-inspired methods for his recent buildings: Yusuhara Wooden Bridge Museum and Cafe Kureon, a2, 120-square-foot restaurant.
For architect Terrence Curry, the attraction of using ancient methods is about finding something that can “speak to Chinese identity”. His structure Dougong Cube, now part of the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University in Beijing, was constructed using classical-style brackets and over2, 000boards. “It has fundamental structure of dougong, but we just aren’t using it in the way it was intended to be used. We’re really pulling it out-emphasizing its beauty and complexity, and the way it works,” said Curry, “The shape and function of dougong is directly related to properties of wood, and the ability of people who make these buildings. In this way, there’s little need for decoration because the structure and design give it its distinctive look.”
28.Why is dougong referred to as an exception?
A.It uses less concrete and steel. B.It can meet decorative needs.
C.It enjoys a long history. D.It has a brilliant structure.
29. What does the underlined word “non-load-bearing” in paragraph2 probably mean?
A.Unstable. B.Unbearable. C.Unbreakable. D.Unconventional.
30. What can be inferred about Dougong Cube in paragraph 4?
A.It changes the basic style of dougong.
B.It is more practical than previous Chinese buildings.
C.Its charm can be brought out by its materials and designers.
D.Its unique design remains unknown to the public.
31. What’s the main idea of the text?
A.Chinese identity can be revealed through its architecture.
B.Dougong reflects Chinese wisdom in architecture.
C.Chinese architecture has a lasting influence on the world.
D.Dougong Cube presents a combination of innovation and tradition.

Teenagers who check social media for several hours a day are at the risk of developing ADHD (多动症), a study has concluded.
The research team, from the University of Southern California, tracked 2,600 teenagers aged 15 and 16. They asked them how many times they checked their phones and other digital devices for various reasons, and then monitored them for symptoms of ADHD. After two years, those who had checked their phones the most often were twice as likely as those who checked the least often to show signs of ADHD.
Writing in the JAMA medical journal, the scientists said, “Modern media devices immediately inform users when new text messages, social media postings, or video game play invitations arrive. Exposure to such information may draw attention away from important tasks. Frequent distraction could interrupt the development of constant attention and organization skills.”
They believe constant access to instant entertainment also has an impact. Researcher Professor Adam Leventhal said all previous research had focused on the link between ADHD and televisions. “What’s new is that previous studies on this topic were done many years ago, when social media, mobile phones, tablets and mobile apps didn’t exist. We can say with confidence that teens who are exposed to higher levels of digital media are significantly more likely to develop ADHD symptoms in the future,” he said.
Leventhal believes the findings help fill a gap in understanding how new mobile media devices and seemingly limitless content pose a mental health risk for children. And the findings serve as a warning.
British scientists welcomed the findings. But Professor Andy Przybylski of the Oxford Internet Institute said, “The study relies on survey responses provided by the students in question. It is not clear if teachers or parents would rate the children similarly or if the self-reported measure of digital screen use is related with either actual behavior or higher quality survey items.”
32. How did the researchers conduct the study?
A.By monitoring 2,600 teenagers with ADHD.
B.By tracking the participants for two years.
C.By analyzing data from previous researches online.
D.By controlling different teens’ time spent on social media.
33. What does Leventhal think of the exposure to higher levels of digital media?
A.It will cause diverse ADHD symptoms.
B.It will have a major influence on organization skills.
C.It will weaken teenagers’ confidence.
D.It will create higher ADHD risks.
34. What does Professor Andy Przybylski think of the study?
A.Its findings are not reliable enough.
B.It should have focused on parents’ responses.
C.It provides a better understanding of the media.
D.It’s a breakthrough in this field.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.The use of digital media is on the rise
B.Teens are increasingly exposed to ADHD
C.Heavy use of social media may increase ADHD risks
D.Teens’ exposure to modern media calls more attention

What should a charming campus be like?
From my point of view, a charming campus should be full of birds’ twitter and fragrance of flowers. A good environment is fundamental. Besides, the students can not only learn knowledge but also develop in an all-around way on campus. The school gym and playground can often see students doing sports. Various student associations are necessary, which offer chances for students to enjoy more colourful school life. For a charming campus, the most important is that everyone, no matter you’re working or studying in it, is optimistic and in high spirits. Everyone is on the way of chasing his/her dream.
Such is the charming campus in my mind.
