BIn space, it’s impossible to go outside a spacecraft without wearing a spacesuit. Temperatures in the sunlight can reach 120℃. Without a spacesuit your blood would boil and your body would break open. And you`d be exposed to dangerous radiation from the Sun. In the shade, with temperatures falling to-100℃, you would freeze to death. And one other small thing—there’s no oxygen, so you wouldn’t be able to breathe. A spacesuit is made of lots of different layers, all protecting the astronaut from the dangers of walking in space. The outer layers connect together so that all of the astronaut’s body is covered. On the astronauts chest is the Hard Upper Torso piece, or HUT. All the controls for the spacesuit are on the HUT. Air and water tubes connect the HUT to a backpack that the astronaut wears. The backpack holds oxygen and water and provides electricity for the suit. A fan moves the oxygen through the suit so the astronaut can breathe. And the water flows through a special piece of clothing that is worn under the suit—the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment. It is full of tubes. Water flows through them to keep the astronaut cool during a spacewalk. The backpack also has a radio in it. This radio is connected to a cap on the astronaut’s head under the large helmet. This allows the astronaut to talk with the others in the spacecraft, and with people on the Earth. Altogether, a spacesuit has fourteen layers. One garment is rather surprising. Some spacewalks can last for six or eight hours. There are no toilets out there, so a very important part of the spacesuit is a diaper!34.The controls for a spacesuit are on the ___________.A.helmet B.Hard Upper Torso pieceC.backpack D.Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment35.___________ keeps astronauts cool in a spacesuit.A.Drinking lots of water B.Going outside a spacecraftC.Water flows through tubes D.A radio is connected to a cap36.A diaper is ___________.A.an instrument that provides electricityB.an inventor that we use to make air moveC.a kind of bag or box that you wear on your backD.a piece of cloth that a baby wears between its legs37.What is the main purpose of the passage?A.To introduce the dangers of astronauts in space.B.To explain how astronauts communicate in the sky.C.To discuss the advantages and disadvantages of spacesuitsD.To describe the main parts of a spacesuit and how they work. CThese days there is so much tempting technology to look at: smartphones, tablet computers, computer games and TV screens. Much of our entertainment and education comes from using them, so it’s no wonder we spend so much time staring at them. But even if the saying that looking at a screen for too long gives you square eyes isn’t true, there is still some concern that it can affect your eyesight. So, should we be worried? Certainly for children who spend hours glued to a screen there is a concern that their health might be at risk. The lack of physical activity can lead to an increase in their weight. But there is a fear that their eyesight is becoming worse, too. Although there’s not much evidence to prove this yet, recent findings have opened our eyes to the problem. Katherine Sellgren from BBC News interviewed Chris Hammond, professor of ophthalmology at King’s College London and consultant ophthalmic surgeon at St Thomas’ Hospital. He said, “We know that myopia, or short-sightedness, is becoming more common... It has reached a very high level in East Asia and Singapore, where coming near to 90% of 18-year-olds are now short-sighted.”But can this be connected to children’s obsession with using electronic products? Annegret Dahlmann-Noor, consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London says lack of natural light seems to be the key reason. She also thinks children in East Asia study a lot, using computers, smartphones or tablet computers, and they go outside less, which could be a cause of short-sightedness. Wearing glasses is one solution, but it’s not perfect or most suitable. This leads to a dilemma: achieving short-term success in study or protecting your long-term eyesight. It’s always going to be a challenge to pull children away from their screens and its likely that more and more studying will be done online, through a screen. Professor Hammond says, “in countries like urban China, where 10% of children in each class per year are becoming short-sighted from about the age of six, there’s an argument for saying we should be trying to prevent it.” It’s evidence we can’t turn a blind eye to. So, maybe it’s time to hit the “off” button and get our children outside!38.What will happen to a kid if he keeps his eyes on the tablet computer for a long time?A.He will become more active. B.His eyesight will become weak.C.He will learn a lot from the tablet. D.His looking should be dressed up.39.Which area has the highest short-sightedness rate according to the professor at King’s college?A.In East Asia. B.In West Asia.C.In South Asia. D.In Middle East.40.More and more children have short-sightedness problem because they ________.A.sleep less, often playing games B.study a lot, hardly going outsideC.focus on smartphones all the time D.stay in natural light for a long time41.What suggestion can we get from the last paragraph?A.10% of children of each class in China cities are becoming short-sighted.B.Most children succeed in their subjects in short terms but 10% short-sighted.C.All children should be pulled from electric products like tablets and smart phones.D.Some proper measures should be taken to deal with the myopia problem of the children. DOur Milky Way Galaxy may be home to 2 billion planets that have the right conditions to support life. These planets have the correct temperature for liquid water. While no one knows what alien life would look like, if it is anything like life on earth, it would need water to keep alive. According to the research, there are nearly 2 billion habitable planets in the Milky Way Galaxy, which is just one of 100 to 200 billion galaxies in the universe. The earth was formed 9 billion years after the Big Bang. Many of the planets in the Milky Way were formed millions and some even billions of years before the earth. If intelligent life had existed on any of these planets, they would be much more developed than humans. With that much time to develop the technology for space travel, we should have been visited by aliens many times. So where is everyone? Some people believe that aliens have visited earth many times, and some governments of the world might have known very well. some believe that we have also been visited many times in the ancient past. They point to the Egyptian pyramids or the huge heads of Easter Island. They say that there was no way that ancient humans were able to create these structures without alien assistance.According to Harvard professor Avi Loeb, . For example, in 2017, a cigar-shaped object came within 33 million km of the earth as it passed through our solar system. It was named Oumuamua, which means “messenger from the distant past reaching out to us” in Hawaiian. Loeb says that its unusual shape and the fact that it sped up as it left our solar system sets it apart from anything else we’ve seen. He thinks it was a probe sent by an alien civilization. Jackie Fairey, says everyone should have reservation about this. She is one of many scientists who say there are more reasonable explanations for Oumuamua. That hasn’t stopped Professor Loeb. He has written a new book on Oumuamua called Extraterrestrial: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth.42.According to the passage, if there were aliens, they ________.A.could be similar to humans on the earthB.must help build the Great WallC.would be smarter than humans on the earthD.have a shorter history than humans43.Which of the following can be put into the blank ________ in the passage?A.we hasn’t been visited by aliens for we got nothing from the universeB.we not only have been visited by aliens, but also have evidenceC.no one could be sure about whether the evidence we’ve got is trueD.all of researchers doubt about the fact that we have been visited44.From the passage, we can infer that ________.A.there are fewer than 100 billion habitable planets in the universeB.some aliens did actually, and on the earth in ancient timesC.some governments received information from the oumuamuaD.scientists Leob doesn’t agree with the idea that Fairey holds45.What’s the best title of the passage?A.Where are all the aliens?B.When will the aliens visit us?C.Oumuamua: Have you ever been here?D.How many habitable planets are there? 卷II说明:本卷共有四大题,31小题,满分50分四、词汇运用(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)A.用方框中所给词语的适当形式填空。每词限用一次。though active solve glove they 46.Nowadays, lots of students have online lessons by ________ at home.47.Remember to put on ________ to keep your hands warm on snowy days.48.With our effort, I believe the pollution problem ________ in a short time.49.________ it’s midnight, the streets are filled with people celebrating the festival.50.Alice takes part in all kinds of activities, and she is certainly ________ girl in our class. Many schools publish yearbooks. The first yearbooks appeared in the 1600s. They were only scrapbooks (剪贴薄), because photography was not really around until the 1820s. Since there were no pictures, people would fill the books with notes, articles, flowers, and even hair to remember events. The first formal yearbook was published by Yale University in 1806. Yearbooks are generally edited by a student club. The yearbook staff usually has one or more editors responsible for collecting and editing all of the information. Most yearbooks include individual photographs of students and information on sports and other activities. In the US, yearbooks often cover the whole school and not just the senior class. Senior photographs are usually larger than those of underclassmen and are sometimes attached by text about their achievements throughout high school and their future plans. In the UK and other countries, yearbooks often only cover the final year group and not the entire school. Each student has more space for answers to different kinds of questions as well as their photos. Today, yearbooks are also evolving. With the help of QR codes and websites, we are able to add videos and slideshows into the book for students to look back on recorded events. Many schools are simply dropping physical yearbooks and turning to digital yearbooks.
