You know who gets them right?BLUETOOTHIn his futuristic 1953 novel Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury anticipated Bluetooth, describing wireless earphones that allowed for "an electronic ocean of sound, of music and talks" to be transferred through the air. Imagine how thrilled he would have been with a Bluetooth toaster! That was the idea behind Griffin's Connected Toaster, which warned you via smartphone when your toast was done. At $ 100, this baby cost a lot of bread, which may be why it was discontinued just two years after launch.SMART WATCHThe Apple Watch lets you chat, play games, and watch videos on a device fastened to your wrist. Cool, huh? The Jetsons thought so… in 1962 — when Steve Jobs was still in second grade!WI-FINikola Tesla called it! In 1909, the famous electrical engineer told the New York Times, "It will soon be possible to send wireless messages all over the world so simply that any individual can carry and operate his own equipment." No doubt he was thinking of the Kérastase Hair Coach brush, which measured brushing speed and employed a micro-phone to listen to your hair, all to compute an overall hair-quality score sent to your smartphone. (Alas, it too is gone.)GPSWriter Arthur C. Clarke (2001: A Space Odyssey) saw a world in which no one got lost. In 1956,he wrote that satellitescould make possible a position-finding grid (坐标方格) whereby anyone could locate himself by means of a couple of dials on an instrument about the size of a watch.” Clarke didn't mention that his system might also track another person, such as a criminal. Last year, the New York City police arrested a robber who was wearing a GPS ankle monitor — because he was still on probation (缓刑) for a prior crime.Which of the predictions in the earliest?BLUETOOTH B. SMART WATCH C . WI-FI D. GPSWhy might Griffin’s Connected Toaster disappear?Too expensive B. Out of date.C . A little awkward D. Energy-consumingWhat was Clarke’s prediction?A GPS ankle monitor B. A robber-arresting instrument C . A watch that could see the world D. An instrument that could locate a person.B An Indian official and his wife were giving a large dinner party. Their guests including a visiting American naturalist were seated in their dining room with wide glass doors opening onto a veranda (阳台). A spirited discussion sprung up between a young girl who insisted that women had outgrown the jumping—on—a—chair —at—the—sight—of—a—mouse time and a man who said that she hadn't as much courage as a man.The American watched the other guests' reactions towards the topic and saw a strange expression on the face of the hostess. Her muscles contracted slightly and she whispered to the servant standing behind her chair. The servant left the room quickly and then placed a bowl of milk on the veranda just outside the open doors. The American remembered that milk in a bowl means only one thing—bait(诱饵) for a snake in India. He realized there must be a snake in the room and any move could cause the snake to attack."Now let's play a game! I'll count three hundred and not one of you is to move a muscle. Those who move will be fined fifty rupees(卢布). Ready!" The American said. Then the people sat just like stones."…two hundred and eighty …" when, out of the corner of his eyes, he saw the snake appear and made for the bowl of milk. Screams rang out as he jumped to shut the veranda doors safely."You’re a brave man!" the host exclaimed. "A man has just shown us an example of perfect control." "Just a minute," the American said, turning to his hostess, "Mrs Wynne, how did you know the snake was in the room?"A faint smile lighted up the woman's face as she replied, "Because it was crawling across my foot. "Why did the servant put a bowl of milk on the veranda?A.To feed other snakes outside.B.To interrupt the heated discussion.C.To relax the guests off nerves.D.To attract the snake there.25. Which words best describe the American according to the passage?A.Creative and critical.B.Generous and humorous.C.Smart and calm.D.Environmentally—friendly and serious.26. Who had more control than others in the party?A.The hostess.B.The American.C.The girl.D.The man mentioned in the first paragraph.27. What can we learn from the passage?A.The American thought out a game for fun.B.The discussing man would feel sorry for his comments.C.The hostess was to blame for the dangerous incident.D.The guests knew the fact and remained still. C The American company Otherlab has built a new drone (无人机) which the company calls “Sky Machine”.Compared with other unmanned aircraft, the drone is very different. It is made almost completely out of cardboard. The drone looks like a big paper airplane that we used to make as kids. But this light flying machine is not a toy, it was specially designed and equipped with a small computer, a battery and sensor(传感器) to guide it to the ground. The company says it can travel about 150 kilometers at speeds up to 88 kilometers an hour. Now it can carry materials weighing up to one kilogram, but future ones are expected to carry heavier loads. One of the drone’s main advantages is that it does not have a heavy motor or large battery. This provides more room for materials and makes the drone cost less to build and work. The drones are designed to be dropped from airplanes.Hundreds of drones could be launched at once and then they could be automatically guided to where they are supposed to go. And once the drone completes its delivery,it can be thrown away and the cardboard material will likely break down within a few months.Otherlab says the drones can also be reused. Otherlab has received money from the U.S. Department of Defense to carry out research on the drones. The U.S. military has a need for delivery drones. But it wants to simplify and lower the cost of using them and Otherlab's Sky Machines are making an attempt to fill that need. Military drones can be stolen and studied by others if they are found after use. Before they can truly disappear, the electronic materials inside the drones must also somehow disappear. Researchers are still working on ways to get the technology itself to self-destruct.28.What makes the “Sky Machine” very different from other unmanned airplanes?A. It is designed with a beautiful look.B. It is made mainly of a special material.C. It can be controlled easily even by a kid.D. It is equipped with a light motor.29. Why is the drone designed without a heavy motor or a heavy battery?A. To reduce the time to build it.B. To save more energy and fuel.C. To spare more space for goods.C. To make it fly higher in the sky.30. What do we know about the drone according to the Otherlab?A. The drone may be used again after finishing its delivery.B. The drone may reduce air pollution greatly.C. The drone needs to be checked or repaired timely.D. The drone will improve the speed of delivery gradually.31. What can we learn from the last paragragh?A. Delivery drones are in great need in the U. S military.B. The U. S military is doing some research on drones.C. Otherlab tries its best to satisfy the U. S military needs.D. Delivery drones have been equipped with the self-destructive technology. DSocial media is taking over our lives, for example,TikTok(抖音). These social media platforms have transformed from a way to stay connected to an industry where even kids can make money off their posts. While this may seem like another promising innovation, it's really full of hidden false realities. The average income recorded in the United States of America was about $63,000 in 2020. TikTokers can make anywhere from $50,000 to $150,000 for a TikTok brand partnership, and TikTokers with over a million followers can make up to $30,000 a month — $360,000 a year. They are making more than the average person trying to feed their family and keep a roof over their heads, simply by posting a 15-second video. This is mad in more ways than one. Not only is it an overpaid "job", it promotes undeserved admiration from viewers and a false sense of reality. Many of these famous TikTokers are still teens, and the effects of being famous at such an early stage in life might cause issues later in life, such as mental illness. Teens between the ages of 13 and 17 make up 27% of TikTok viewers, who can be easily influenced by what they are watching. They can have a false sense of self-value from whom they look up to and what they mean: money, fame, being considered conventionally attractive. While TikTok has become a great tool for marketing, it's important to understand how this content affects young viewers. If we’re constantly consuming content that shows us all we need to do to be successful is be conventionally attractive and post a 15-second video featuring a new dance, it will challenge our knowledge of what really makes someone successful and will in turn affect our individual work ethics (伦理). What about the people who miss birthdays and family holidays due to their jobs and aren't getting paid nearly as much as these TikTokers? Richard Colyer, president and creator of Metaphor, Inc., had his own view on this issue. "It sounds great that kids can make money for doing the latest dance moves in a 15-second video, but we should feed the minds of kids and not just their bank accounts. TikTok can be great if used properly. Money alone is not good, technology alone is not good and connectedness can be bad if it's only online." Again, as a fellow consumer of TikTok, I do enjoy the APP when I have some time to kill and need a good laugh. I'm not against someone making a living on entertainment, but what does getting famous of a 15-second video teach young people? What does the underlined word "this" in Paragraph 1 refer to? A . Social networking. B . Making money on social media. C . A job offered by TikTok. D . Staying connected to the Internet. Which is the possible influence of TikTok on its young users? A . They tend to live an adult life too soon. B . They are likely to develop false values. C . They may abandon other social media. D . They are forced to pay for certain services. What can we infer from Richard Colyer's comments? A . TikTok can be a positive influence if teens employ it wisely. B . Young TikTokers should be banned from making money. C . It is better to involve education on investment in TikTok videos. D . The contents of videos need checking before their onlinerelease . Which of the following might be the best title of the passage? A . Say No to TikTok. B . Join Young TikTokers C . TikTok — A Mine of Money D . A Job vs An Entertainment 第二节(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。Fear of Puberty(青春期)When young people get to puberty, it causes the physical and mental changes that can bring stress and even fear to them. 36 Consider how often you worry about it. If it regularly happens more than twice a day, it’s time that you started taking the problem seriously. You should look out for feelings of panic when you think about puberty. You may have frequent stressful dreams or feel depressed when you notice changes in your body. 37 By identifying them, you can start to do something about them. 38 If you have had a happy childhood it’s natural to feel sad that it’s coming to an end. Many aspects of adult life can be fearful, but remember that you don’t have to face them all at once.Apart from these, some teenagers worry about putting on weight or feel discomfort with how people treat them or feel their body doesn’t fit them. Remember that this fat is usually temporary. 39 If you feel stressful, find help from your teachers.Besides parents, teachers and school medical staff, there are a number of other places where you can seek help. 40 Your doctor can provide support on body issues and you can insist on seeing the doctor alone if that makes it easier. You are not alone in your feelings. There are ways to deal with many of the specific problems puberty can cause. The sooner you seek help, the sooner it will get better.A. Get into the habit of focusing yourself.B. You should know the source of your stress.C. These feelings shouldn’t be a cause of worry.D. You may feel miserable at the passing of childhood.E. Exercise and healthy eating will help you get rid of it sooner.F. You can turn to Childline at any time of the day or night.G. Knowing your feelings better can make it easier to deal with them. My 83-year-old mother came to live with me a year ago last November.
